I have never written a review in my life, not really the type of person to waste my time, but I thought I would save someone else from making the mistake of banking with Max. If I could give a zero I would. Reason number one, they take for ever to answer the phone; you will be on hold for at least 45 minutes never had a call answered sooner than that. Reason number two, I have been trying to pay off my loan for five days, and they want to charge fees for doing so. Every time I call I am on hold for at least 45 minutes. read more

Max Credit Union is terrible to bank with. They financed me a vehicle in 2020. Yes, I did struggle with some payments. I have less than a year to pay my vehicle off and they repoed it with less than two months being behind. Which she knew my situation. If you can please deal with another company. A company that cares about people because Max Credit Union don't. I will never go back to Max even if I have A-1 credit. They disappointed me and hurt my heart with a 5 year relationship. Please seek other lenders I would hate for this to happen to someone else. I only gave a 1 star because I had to. read more

I've been with MAx Credit union for years and as of today, Aug 26th, i've notice an increase in fees. This last statement I was charge $70 in fees alone. Non were overdraft. Just $3 here and there for transfers and anywhere I used my pin number Max changed $2 - $3. So much so, that my account kept going in to the negative, I would transfer money, then there still wouldnt be enough money in the account because they took out transfer fees. It was a crazy loop of events until I pulled my statements and realized all these fees that I've never seen before. read more

I applied for a loan and was assured that everything was on track until the very end, only to be denied. To make matters worse, I was hit with a fee that wasn't disclosed upfront. When I reached out, they refused to waive the fee or offer a payment plan. If you're considering applying for a loan, be cautious and make sure you're fully informed about any potential hidden fees--unlike my experience. read more

If I could give them a Zero I would....I have been with Max for over six years and have never missed a car payment. I applied for a refinance on my car loan or rather a new loan and was denied. I was wanting to trade my car in with only 4 payments left. Although my credit decreased due to me getting laid off. I struggled and never missed a payment, but they didn't give that a second thought...Just like someone else mentioned, you can not get a loan with these people no matter how loyal and consistent you have been. I plan to close my account soon as I get my car traded. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!! GOOD RIDDANCE! read more

This is a terrible bank . Max used to put customers first but anymore. My. 5 year banking relationship with Max started out very good. Their rates were competitive, customer service was outstanding. but they charged me a fee for something I should not have incurred. I am closing my accounts And taking my business elsewhere. read more

not a good location at all. they never answer the phone, especially if they close within the next hour. they've hit me with many fees, not to mention they are constantly having technical issues. I've had several issues with online banking as well as their card manager app. I highly do not recommend. read more

I rarely write reviews start off this a 0 out of 5 stars I got a car finance years ago like 2014 so when I couldn't make the payments on the car around 2018 keep in mind I was consistent on my payments so I even told them ahead of time that I end up buying a new car and if it affects my credit I'm Ok with that so the car went to collections So I'm thinking everything good fast forward now like couple weeks ago I'm getting my check GARNISHED! without any heads up or any letters in process so my boss told me who it was that was doing it So I go to the court house they are stating that I need to pay 10k on the car off and they taking 25% of my check it's a ongoing process so I'm waiting to see the outcome in all this is the absolute worst people to deal with read more

This Max credit union is the Absolute worse, slow service, drive thru at Eastdale is the slowest drive thru ever, 3 lines open 6 cars it took literally 25 minutes and that should never happen!! Drive thru always horrible I hate this place, they just don't care!!!!!!! read more

I financed a car loan through Max. When I paid it off a year early they charged a $2.40 finance fee after the fact. They do not allow you to make payments less than $5.00. Since I do not live locally, they referred me to one of their co-ops to pay off the loan. Not only was the process at the co-op frustrating, they also charged me nearly $20 in fees just to pay off the $2.40 charge. They charged me to deposit money at the co-op and then again to use the money I deposited. The process was confusing and when I tried to call MAX for support I sat on the phone for over 45 minutes and never got a call. I tried this multiple times with the same result. Zero out of Five. read more

Been member since 1971, and the only time I had trouble was when they introduced new software capability, that sometimes needed a little more quality control testing and some times the online system acts like a self licking ice cream cone, losing sight of what the mission of the online customer is, Overall this is a good bank to handle my financial requirements even financed my 1978 VW convertible in 1998! read more

They only approve loans for those with premium credit which is not the way most credit unions work. Unless you have a 720 Credit score don't even bother. They are also never open and flip staff constantly. Current auto loan holder. read more

If I could give them no stars I would so don't be fooled by the 1 that I gave. Don't do business with these people. Go find a rebuttable bank or small local credit union who will work with you and that is more for the individual and not big business. Max used to be good about 20+ years ago when they were a small credit union on the air force base. I also remember they had a little trailer for an office behind the YMCA in Prattville. They somehow forgot who they were or what they were about and became big business/corporate like and about 10 years ago became very difficult to do business with. As for a personal example, I was the victim of ID theft/fraud and have had to spend years clearing my name since no one was ever charged or arrested; however, Max's security fraud department representative had the audacity to call me a "liability" and informed me I could keep my credit card because they didn't want to release me from my balance but my checking and savings account privileges were now closed and no longer available. I hear Navy Federal Credit Union is supposed to be good, at least for now but heed my warning as someone who did business with them for 20 years, go find someone else. read more

I realize the drive thru is the only way to deposit as you have to make an appointment to go inside! However it's not acceptable having to wait in the drive thru 38 minutes with only one car in front of you!!!! Most people don't have the luxury of having an hour lunch break where lots of people use this time to run this simple errand!! MAX has changed over the years!! But for the worst!!!! read more

This is absolutely the worst loan company I have ever seen! I have proven 5 times with my insuarance agent that I have full auto coverage the correct deductible and my lean is through Max. These are there requirements. Since I bought the car 8 months ago I receive weekly calls and letters from collection agencies that I owe them an extra $395 and if I don't pay my credit will be affected. For each month because they do not have proof of this.Everytime I call which is very long hold times There is nobody who can solve the problem! PLEASE NEVER USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE BEYOND BAD! What is the measure of a great bank or credit union? Is it great rates, great customer service or availability? In my experience, a good measurement would be when you are really in need. What I found from Max is that when you are down, they are gonna keep you down. I discovered this when I went through some financial hardships. Max offered nothing in the way of help to me when I needed it most. This may be true of all financial entities but it is a harder pill to swallow when it is your "neighbors" dolling out this treatment. Even worse, the treatment I received from some Max employees was another slap in the face and someone from my community was doing it. Alas, friends, I have risen from those hard times and have found other institutions with better rates and not concerned with my past failings. There are many better options than Max and my recommendation is that you look elsewhere. read more

The customer service at MAX is world class. The employees always greet you with smiles and make you feel at home. They have member accounts that pay interest. How good is that, a checking account that pays me. They also have the best loan rates in town! read more

I have no idea how long my online banking has been done. No one will do anything. I finally wrote a letter to the Alabama Credit Union Administration to see if they would do something. This is ridiculous! read more

I would disagree with Guam D review. I have called several times and even visited the main branch and am considering closing my accounts with them. The staff is rude at times and even on the phone they are not very customer service oriented. Am considering moving to another credit union. read more
