I've been coming here for years to service different cars, and they have always been reliable and transparent with the services. I first brought in my old Nissan Murano here (over 150k miles) and although this car needed a lot of work (like all the time), Mavis proved to be one of the most trustworthy and transparent shops in the area. Then I got a Jeep (also over 150k miles), where it came with less problems but also was serviced by Mavis because of my good experience with them back when I had the Murano. Fast forward to today and I have a brand new car with no issues. I service it at the Honda Dealership for the most part but when I got a screw lodged up in the tire recently, I decided to pay my pals over at Mavis a visit, where they were very helpful and efficient. I wanted a wheel rotation. Unfortunately I don't have the lug nut key to remove the locking lug nuts on my car. They wanted $25 PER WHEEL to take them off. Now either 1) You have a master tool to do this, in which case it's a ten second job and you are blatantly ripping the less mechanically knowledgeable people off. or 2) You don't have a master tool, and have to resort to some sort of mechanical "butchery" to take them off, in which case you are incompetent. Neither really paints you in a good light. I am generously giving 2 stars because the time I visited a few years ago with a different car, there were no price gouging or other problems. Charged me over $300 for brakes that I "needed" to pass state inspection, then after that work was done told me their inspection computer was down and they couldn't do the inspection. I should have trusted my instincts. They might be fine for brake work or tires but don't trust their assessment of what you "need" for inspections. read more

Beware: This was the worst experience. There were hidden fees. Also the mechanic left my car on while on the lift. It caused my car to need a jump and overheat. It had a brand new battery a week ago. I have 2020 Nissan Altima awd I went to Nissan the whole time I had warranty once it was up I use Mavis the guy changed my front tires put Mavis traction control tires in front the tires . let alone at Nissan I only changed my tires once so when I went to Mavis they said I needed front ones so we did . as I'm driving around thinking the car was fine I start hearing chirping noise I had my brakes at Nissan changed once too but when warranty was up had Mavis change them. we kept thinking it was the brakes but find out it was the rear coupler Nissan and Midas and my uncle and my family mechanic said it was the tires . so with awd ur supposed to get all of the same tire from and back has to be all of the same . all mechanica should know this so now I went back and forth to Nissan and back to mavis more than ten times cause nobody wants to take responsibility . first they had the back tires as veerubber i didn't like those cause the car felt very different with those on then we changed them to hankook kinergy yes all four tires are hankook but different tread. the mechanics kept saying it's the same name the tread is the same they kept fighting back. no since I had more then 4 places look at car they all said it's the tires . so kelvin a nice guy helped me a lot with other parts of the car he wanted me to bring it back in claiming no oil or not enough oil was in rear coupler so bought it back in and they took old oil out and put new oil in then changed tires to all of the same . we drove it a couple of times it was fine but after a while noise came back now it's louder then ever .i want this repaired they need to just repair the part that I need. I'm on welfare now since they cutting me off I have to work but can't work cause of the car so now I can't feed my child or support us or even pay my bills. I have a video but too long of the noise. I'm the photos below is a Nissan bulletin. Then it was the tires one is Mavis traction control and the kinergy yes both made by hankook but as u can see it's different tire tread. I made an appointment online to get an oil change, inspection done and four new tires, and when I showed up they didn't have inspection stickers or the tires in stock (despite saying otherwise on the appointment confirmation). They rescheduled me for the next day, saying both the inspection stickers and tires would be in. When I showed up to the new appointment, the inspection stickers still weren't in. I decided to get the oil change and tires done since I needed both and already wasted two days. They said it would be done in an hour and a half, but when I called five hours later the car still wasn't done. When I showed to pick up the car, the manager volunteered to throw in a free oil change and lowered the price of the tires -- which I found odd because they are never that generous when I had gone in prior years. When I got to my car, there were fresh scratches/dings on my bumper that definitely weren't there before. There was no way of proving it and I knew I was never going back there again, so I just left it to be done with them. (I took photos of the bumper but can't seem to add them here.) read more

A few months ago I brought my 94 Miata to have rear brake pads and rotors installed. While the car was there I was told I needed a new rear passengers side caliper. I had this replaced while they had the car. Picked up the car and the e-brake was no longer working. No big deal-mistakes happen. I brought back the car the next day and picked it up the day after and it still wasn't fixed. I was annoyed at this point but didn't have the time to bring it back yet again. 2 months later I brought the car back to finally fix the e-brake and get the car inspected. I explained that it was never fixed properly. After waiting two hours I was told it would fail inspection because the e brake wasn't working and they didn't have time to fix it. I explained that it was working properly before I had the new caliper installed and they never put it back properly to begin with. Long story short they told me my car is 'old' and that the e brake cable was worn out (which isn't true after I had it fixed properly at a real mechanic.) The manager had an attitude from the beginning and we left it at they would order me a new e brake cable and call me when it's in. Never got a call 3 weeks later and as previously stated took the car to another shop who correctly diagnosed the issue as the faulty brand new caliper that Mavis installed. They made me feel like an idiot when in fact I new more about adjusting the e brake then their mechanic who brought me under the car to show him how to adjust the caliper. I will NEVER go back to this place again. read more

First time here, Decided to come here because it was close to home. I have an appointment at 10 o'clock and I waited 3 1/2 hours to change tires and wheel alignment. I had appointment and Im not just walked in customer. That made me upset more when I Observed that other people walk in and their car are already inside the shop and in a 1 -1 1/2 hr they are gone. Not sure because they know the manger or what kind of car job they have. But it was upsetting to see that. Just FYI, before you come here, you can call if they have your tires first. And if u make appointment, come early. And if u have kids, better leave the car and come back later. Even though they said 1-1.5 hrs waiting it aint gonna happen. I needed two new tires so I shopped around online and was able to find the best price through Mavis Discount Tire and there were a handful of locations in my area to choose from. I reserved my tires and appointment online the night before and had no issues. The waiting area has a small play area for children, a television and chairs, and to my surprise, two partitioned desk areas with electrical outlets. I had brought some things to work on while I waited so this was great. The tires were done quickly, but one of the employees came to tell me that they couldn't do the alignment because I needed a new ball joint. My initial thought was, "Oh great, here we go with them trying to sell me something." However, as soon as I said "I've heard of that but I don't really know what you mean," the employee took me to the service bay and explained the whole thing to me on my car. He answered all of my questions, had already called to see when they could have the part, and seemed to be genuinely concerned about me continuing to drive with it as it was. They were able get the part the next morning so I told him I would drop my car off first thing. I dropped it off, went to work, and when I came back a few hours later on lunch it was all done. Overall, my service was done quickly, the tires were the best price around, and everyone I spoke with who worked there was friendly. There was a man waiting for his tires at the same time as me who said the service was taking much longer than they said it would take. As I was leaving I overheard one of the employees apologize to him about this and explain why it took longer then they had expected. read more

I actually always have a good experience when I come here. The people are very professional. Although I just read a previous comment about them trying to scheme customers into getting their brakes done, mine actually needed them done as I've had Ford tell me this as well (unless this is a tactic used by dealerships and auto shops, I dunno). Either way, I'd rather err on the side of caution. Can't put a price on the safety of one's life. Update: So I just left after getting my brakes done. I had asked the gentleman to also check my tire pressure because the light had come on. I just noticed that the pressure light is still on! Checked my receipt and "check tire pressure" is not listed. This reminds me of when I had new tires installed and asked them to change my oil. After I had left I realized they never changed my oil and had to go back. My advice: Make sure they did everything you asked before you leave. read more

Went to this Mavis back in September had 4 new tires installed also had my brake pads and discs changed,, today went back had an appt for 10:00am to check my brakes because they are making a squicky noise waited for 2 and half hour waiting asked why my car wasn't even looked at yet,,they said the mechanic had one car for that entire time and he didn't have time to check it,,( why not let me know why taking so long) asked for my key and left no customer service at all the guy at the desk said next time come at 8:00am so they can take you right in,, my question to that was why do you make appointments than,, VERY BAD,, NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!! read more

In the process of restoring a 95 T-bird, cost can add up quickly and can be extremely frustrating at times. I needed new tires on the Bird so I took it to Mavis in Haverstraw. As soon as I pulled in I was greeted by Jed in the parking lot. We talked about the car and told him some of the Bird history of sitting for 15 years. Jed was amazing on making sure we picked out the best tires at the best price for my budget. Jed walked my though everything including suggestions on what else I should have done to the car. I can't recall the name of the tech that worked on the car but he was amazing and super helpful as well. On Saturday, April 23 2011, I took the company vehicle to Mavis Discount Tires in West Haverstraw on Route 9W for an oil change. The vehicle was left there and I gave them my phone number to call me when it was done. About 1 hour later, I was contacted by "Anthony" who said they had performed a "Safety Inspection" and they noticed that the brakes were very worn and needed replacement to the tune of $199 for the 1998 Honda CRV that they had in for an oil changed. I explained that I was not the owner of the vehicle and that I could not authorize this type of repair and to please put the estimate in writing and I would see about getting it reviewed and approved. When I went to pick up the vehicle and pay for it, Anthony was on the phone with another customer and he was telling them that they needed brakes and rotors. He is very convincing in his delivery and makes it sound really important to have the work done. The following day, I had to pick up another vehicle at a repair shop in Spring Valley that had the company van in for tire replacement since they were dry rotted and were slowly leaking air. I asked he proprietor of this shop if he could give me an estimate for brake work. The 1998 CRV was delivered to him and upon inspection, there was no need for brake repairs because there was plenty of life left on them. This leads me to believe that Mavis Discount Tire in West Haverstraw may be advising people to have repairs that are not necessary or they are charging for repairs that are ot being performed at all. What really troubles me about this is that Mavis Discount Tire was dealing with a "non-profit" agency and they were trying to get us to spend money on things that were not needed. I realize that times are tough but it is not fair to have someone come in for a simple oil change and then try to sell them hundreds of dollars worth of work that is not required. read more

One of the worst automotive experiences of my life. I was the first customer of the day and had a 8am appointment to boot. These clowns passed over my car for over an hour until i had to go to the manager ( eric) a real charmer who is more interested in eating than working and asked him why my car is being passed over. He finally found the strength to ask a mechanic to finally bring my car in. Another 40 minutes pass when the mechanic tells me to go with him to view imaginary damage and tries to hard sell me repairs. I told him that i just want my 2 tires put on. The mechanic looked pissed that i said no and took another 45 minutes just to spin balance 2 lousy tires. Stay away from these people, they are the worst. Horrible experience. read more

Everytime I go to Mavis I'm always greeted warmly by the staff, which is rare these days. I always wait for my car to be serviced and its always done quickly and expertly. The staff are very knowledgeable and only recommend services that are needed for my car. In my opinion Mavis offers very high quality services at surprisingly low prices. If my car wasn't still under warantee I would definitely go there for all my car services (if they indeed have the services I would require). read more

I had issues with the call center as well with giving me wrong prices on tires & road hazard warranty , however that is a whole other issue Got 4 tires & Alignment which ended up being a total of 7 1/2 hours. On the 1st day ( 4/10/14) I was told 2 times my truck would be ready , the 1st was to be ready about 4:30, Only for me to get a call at 3:15 asking what color letters I want outside. ( I called back 20 mins later ). Than the guy said they had to change the seal on my tire sensors and if they don't tire won't be covered if something happens. ( I never heard of this seal & any other time I had work done at Mavis , no one ever mentioned that to me , but basically an upsell which i fell into ) .... I figured than maybe by 5 it would be done. Called 5:20 pm and spoke with Frank , he said they were finishing the last 2 wheels and since I'm doing alignment it would be about 30 mins more & definitely ready by 6pm because truck tires take longer. Once i left The alignment did not feel rite and steering feels loose , however , since it was so late already and my sons birthday I have to check it out more tomorrow. After speaking with the regional manager on 4/11/14, and told him about all my issues , he ( James ) said he would call the shop and i would be next in line.. Well that never happened , as i was cut in line ( not shop fault ) & once my alignment was done, the rears were worse than the day before and they let me walk out like that.. Luckily i sat in the lot and looked at both print outs and walked in, The manager asked the tech who did it and stated " i couldnt get them loose, i umm guess were frozen " . Manager than asked the tech who did it the day before and he said he had no issue at all. Than i had to wait again for a car to be done with their alignment in order for me to get the 2nd one of the day & 3rd in 2 days. Finally after the 3rd one , it finally worked. Horrible service in all. However, the Manager Ryan tried to make the best of the situation as he saw how pissed i was , but , alot was out of his hands etc, read more
