This is my second experience purchasing from Mavis. I would rate both experiences at 4 stars. The first time, I bought 4 tires for nearly $800, but promptly lost a hub cap on the highway. I called and they replaced my cap. Thankful for that good customer service. Fast forward over 2 years, and I have a different car and need new tires. I researched and decided on Michelin Cross Climate tires. I do know they are a pricier tire but the potholes and weather of New York are formidable and require quality. I went in to Mavis and met Danielle, who is the main reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 2 or 3. I asked if she had this specific tire and they did, we talked about pricing, adding on hazard coverage in addition to warranty, charges for swapping out tires, and the charge for disposing of the old ones. It came out to high $700-something. I budgeted for $800-something in case I needed the alignment done, which I could feel when driving that I probably needed that and it's a $90 charge. I came in about 10 days later, on a Tuesday, to make my appointment, they had one last set in another store, they would shuttle them over so my appointment was set for Saturday, and I was told to pay after the service. Saturday I come in at my appointment time of 8am and I'm told the tires wouldn't arrive until 10ish, so I left my car and walked home, thank goodness it's not far otherwise I would have lost my morning. I told Danielle that if it needs alignment, just go ahead with the service like we had discussed. I get two phone calls from a male employee, first one saying my struts are blown (thanks for the update, something to talk about with my mechanic) and a second one saying my alignment is out and if I would like to have that service done. I said I had already told them to go forward with that but ok, thanks for checking in anyway. The third call was that my car was ready so I walked back over. I was helped by Ivan, a genuine employee just doing his job. He told me my total was over $1000. As a female, I take mechanical issues seriously as women - or honestly anyone who doesn't look into matters as closely as they should - can get the wool pulled over their eyes real quick. So I ask Ivan to break down the pricing as it's a vastly different sum than was quoted. One charge was replacement of air valves, which I inform him I did not ask for, old ones could have been used, and they called me numerous times for other things so they could have asked about that, and he voided that minimal charge. It was still in the $1000's range so I think whatever, now I know to go to Costco next time. Danielle came in, and I told her the total price that my card was just charged for and she immediately sprang into action, which I greatly appreciate. Apparently in the last few days the tires went up in price and other factors, plus tax yadda yadda. Danielle got it back in the high $800's which is still high but more palpable than over a grand. I'm thankful for her efforts to keep the quoted price and maintain an honorable transaction. Lesson for ladies: do your research, don't just pay things if they tell you a price, have that awkward conversation that makes you look cheap but needs to happen if you don't want to be taken advantage of. I'm not saying that's what Mavis was trying to do, but it didn't feel like a safe space until Danielle came and took care of it, and it makes me wonder what would have happened if I hadn't come in 3 separate times during my research phase and had these conversations. Because of Danielle, I can give 4 stars, but it's because of the situation in general that I cannot award a 5 star review. If you go here, ask for Danielle and stick with her through the entire process, ask her to oversee it, clarify everything, she's really great and knows her stuff. read more

I made an appointment for a simple tire plug and arrived about 15 minutes early. Upon arrival, I was told they were busy and that it would take at least an hour--possibly up to two--to complete. I was assured, however, that they would quickly check the tire first to confirm it could be plugged so I wouldn't be waiting unnecessarily. That did not happen. As a customer, I was very clear from the start: I only needed one tire plugged due to a screw and did not want any additional inspections or upselling. After waiting 1 hour and 40 minutes with no updates, I was finally approached and asked to come into the shop--only to be told that all four tires needed to be replaced. This was surprising, considering I had a clean inspection from my dealership just two weeks prior. I again reiterated that I was not interested in purchasing new tires and only wanted the plug. I was then told to continue waiting. After another 20 minutes (now over 2 hours total--the maximum time I was originally quoted), I was brought back again and told that the tire could not be repaired because there was a second hole next to the screw. A few major concerns: I was told upfront the tire would be checked immediately to avoid unnecessary waiting--this clearly did not happen I personally performed a soap test before arriving and there was no indication of a second leak I was pushed toward purchasing a new tire for $181, with no mention of proper matching/shaving considerations for an AWD vehicle A cheaper, mismatched tire was even suggested, which raises serious safety concerns At that point, I declined and asked for my car back. When I left, I noticed: My valve cap was missing My tire pressure had increased from 34 to 41, despite being told no air was added While waiting, I also observed at least two other customers being told their tires could not be plugged. This experience felt disorganized at best and dishonest at worst. At minimum, it was a complete waste of time. I would strongly recommend sticking with a dealership or a trusted mechanic. If something feels off, it usually is--and unfortunately, that was the case here. Just go somewhere else. My tire is now plugged with no issues thanks to an honest mechanic read more

Lazy establishment. Takes 3 hours for them to swap out rim from the old tire into a new tire. Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere. Guys don't take pride in their work, shows the type of management. Place needs to be held accountable asap. Go to their competitors down the road. read more

I absolutely regret using this location and company for tire replacement services. I purchased tires from Mavis 2/8/25, and due to no fault of my own the tire SPLIT on the side less than two weeks later. After being up-charged for everything under the sun (originally quoted $355, ended up paying $540), they would not replace the clearly faulty tire because we didn't pay for a warranty. This should NOT have to be through a payed for warranty, as clearly less than two weeks after having the tire replaced, and the tire having HUGE blowout should qualify for some sort of replacement for good faith. Friday I came in , had 800 dollars worth of work done, after sitting there for 4 hours and told my car was ready the check engine was on and I went back inside and was told to just keep driving, it will re set and go off. The next day my car wouldn't start. They refuse to help me. After years of going there, filling out surveys, bringing them snacks, recommending them to anyone I know they wouldn't help me and acted as if if I did something wrong for being upset that after bringing my car into the mechanic... To those who may read this: I brought my car into Mavis on 4/8 and it was returned on 4/10 due to Easter. When I received my car back I was notified that I had a cracked oil pan. I brought the car in for an oil change and back break and rotors. I was notified that due to the cracked oil pan I was leaking oil. The car was perfectly fine when I bought it in. Now - for no explainable reason - the car is not drivable when I went to go start it. I made it a few block aways and the car kept stalling out. I had it towed from from Mavis to my local mechanic and was notified that not only was the oil pan cracked from someone or something tightening the oil plug but also I had a cracked air intake manifold. How is this possible? I brought my car in for something simple and leave with thousands of dollars in repairs. Repairs that I can not afford and a car not drivable. I now have to spend time and effort finding a car. When I asked mavis directly about this they had no idea "what happened" and playing coy with a cracked oil pan, but there is no other explanation for this than something happened while Mavis had my car. read more

Warning to young drivers , single moms, and or elderly people who are thinking to take their vehicle to the Walden Mavis---Don't!!!!!!My son(age 20) went for a tire rotation He had just gotten an inspection and oil change a week earlier and the service technician gave him the heads up that his front tires were just passing and would need to be rotated and or possibly replaced in a couple months . Being a concerned single parent of three, I advised him to go to Mavis in Walden and get the tires rotated. I had had a tire rotation there before( hint --I brought an older male friend with me) What could go wrong??? J the mechanic assessing the car told my son that the front tires wouldn't pass inspection, to which my son replied he had just had an inspection last week and it passed--"J" then said "Well it won't pass next year!!" Thanks Captain Obvious!! I think they needed to meet their daily quota and my son was the easy target. New tires were agreed upon. I get that particular up-sale--but all the other unnecessary things done and tacked onto the bill is where I take issue. (Wipers, flushing of fluids, struts .axels) When they finally finished later that evening after wrong parts being delivered etc I drove my son to pick up the car but stayed in my car while my son went in to pay. The manager W ran through a litany of things they did to the car (some discussed and some not) and hands him a bill for 2,834.22! (For reference this is a 2010 Mazda 6 that I paid 3500 in 2020) My son was in shock. He had to pay with two different cards (college funds). My son came out to give me the receipt. I took one look and I jumped out of my car to discuss the bill . Needless to say I was less than happy. In my experience when it's a bill of this amount you are given an estimated total---a written one--or at the very least a verbal one. No estimate was ever given to my son. "W"the manager never had spoken to my son before giving my son the bill that evening. When I questioned the stuff done to the car "W" said "I'm sorry if I did something wrong?" I was very angry and left. The next day all 4 tires needed air. W called me two days later and asked how the car was??? I reiterated how I felt that half the work that was done was unnecessary and how I felt Mavis took advantage of my son. Went in around 9am. I needed two tires to replaced my worn fronts before a long road trip. I was assured the tires would be in in a couple hours and I could come in and get them replaced and an alignment. 3 hours went by. I called. I was reassured tires would be in and job would be completed. I did finally get a call end of day saying the tires never came in. Okay, let's do it next business day. Never got a call to come in. Called around 10:30 on Friday and made an appointment over the phone "at a good time." They suggested 1 pm. (which in hindsight, is lunchtime on payday. Later learned this was someone from a call center.) I dropped off the car and went to downtown Walden for lunch and a stroll. Came back nearly 2 hours later and my car was where i parked it. I went in and was told my car was next. Another hour later, my car was still untouched. The person behind the counter was surprised when I took my keys back. I didn't bedrudge that they were busy. I was annoyed that they were evasive about time. They were banking on me feeling like I'd already invested enough time that I may as well wait it out. But I had no interest in giving them my money after that. Went to another place (at a better time, granted) and was out within 15 minutes. I took my car to Wayne the manager to Walden Mavis 80 oak street Walden ny. My car was since 830 in morning to get my flex pipe replaced. I had to call several times to get an update. They told me that they had all the parts for my vehicle all they needed to do is install it. I waited I decided to at 530pm to find out what was happening. Get my car is up and no one around. Then they tell me that they couldn't do it because the part was the wrong part. I was a loyal customer in till yesterday. Then Wayne was rue and nasty when he was the one who screwed up. Seriously, Let me tell you how I drove up from the Bronx to Walden for a dad's day celebration!ans as I entered the village check light comes on. YIKES!!! I immediately drove straight to Mavis to get this checked. They were booked to the top ! I left my car sit there over night as the engine would not start back up. bummer. My DH wanted me to take his 2011 Kia Optima for an alignment because the steering wheel was shaking bad and also an oil change. It was my day off, which is filled with laundry, grocery shopping and cleaning the house so I didn't want to wait forever. So I called right when Mavis opened and explained I'd like to get in ASAP. They had the car in the garage in 5 minutes from that phone call. I took it in and right away they said it sounds more like it's out of balance rather than an alignment issue. They ran all 4 tires for free to see where the balance was possibly off and found one rim was bent (thanks winter!) they said they could add weight to correct it. He said it may not need alignment as it wasn't pulling, but they were checking it's alignment as well for free to see if it was an issue. The manager, Kareem led me to the wheel balancer in the work shop and took all weights on and off the bent rim with tire and with it spinning you could see where it was bent. He explained weights should be enough to correct it. Being a woman you hear stories of auto/tire places taking advantage of them and telling them they need things they don't. The manager went out of the way to walk me through each step explaining the reason and cost before they did any work and never suggested any work that was not needed. I hope Mavis appreciates the team they have in place because these guys were great! read more

As usual I went to get my oil change. In about an hour it was done. About a week and a half later, my cars steering wheel stiffened and turned off. I had my friend who is a mechanic come and take a look and noticed I had no oil ! The oil had leaked due to Mavis breaking the oil pain due to tightening it too tight. I called Mavis and they refunded me and apologized. A week and half later my car started making a clicking noise every time it accelerated. Than not a week later my car just stopped running. Later find out my motor seized and now I need a new motor. All goes back to Mavis and breaking my oil pan not realizing it and now I have a non working car and having to spend more money on a NEW MOTOR which is EXPENSIVE! I take my car to Mavis and expect and rely on these people to keep me safe on the road as well as getting the maintenance and having them do the job as promised. I will NEVER return and I advise no one else to go to this place. read more

Whether that was my fault or theirs could be debated However, when they called my daughter up to make the payment the gentleman laughed in her face as if she wasn't standing directly in front of him. Horrible work and horrible customer service. I spent $1,500 to have repairs done on my car. The first time I drove it, it felt like my tires were going to fall off. Mind you, I was bringing my 1 yr old to the fair for his bday. I called Mavis in Walden who then told me to get to the Kingston mavis ASAP. So I pulled into Mavis in Kingston so they could look at my car and they told me to call mavis in Walden to let them know what was going on. So I called and asked to speak to a manager. The guy replied "why? you can tell me what's wrong" I said no I'd like to speak to a manager please. He replied "okay" then silence. So I asked "are you the manager?" He said "I am today" so he was already being an ass. I tried to explain to him what was going on and he kept interrupting me and wouldn't listen. He basically told me that he didn't care that I had my baby in the car and there was nothing he could do since I wasn't there. So I asked if there was someone I could speak to above him. In which he replied "no. Call customer service" I said no I want to speak to someone in the store and I need your name so I can tell them who I spoke to. He said "my name is John and that's all you need to know" and HUNG UP ON ME!! He was on speaker so my husband and the mechanic in Kingston heard all of this. So let me tell you that they charged me $1,500 and NEVER tightened my lug nuts on any of my tires after doing my brakes!! The mechanic in Kingston told me they were all hand loose. They also charged me $500 for a part that I didn't get or need and most likely pocketed the money and put a fuel code on the receipt instead of the parts code. I was also charged for an alignment and they never did it. I wouldn't have known any of this if the amazing mechanics at mavis in Kingston didn't tell me. So I filed a report and only then did the crappy manager of Walden Mavis, JUAN ROSA NOT JOHN, call me back and ask "what do you want me to do?" He was on some self preservation trip and wanted me to care about his job when he clearly didn't care about my family's safety. I was in no way rude or disrespectful the first time I called. But after he hung up on me and only called back to save his own ass I will admit that I went 50 shades of crazy on him. I will be filing a report with the bbb and if they do not return the money they stole from me, I will be getting my lawyer involved. JUAN ROSA should not have a job there after the bs he pulled. Its so funny I'm looking for tires and decided to read the review...then I remember a terrible experience I had with Mavis. I took my car for my routine oil change as I usually do December 2019. January 2020 I started hearing a noise when driving. I asked my uncle to drive it and tell me if he heard it. He asked driving it when last I had an oil change and I replied 1 month ago. He said take it to a mechanic before driving back to Walden. When my mechanic checked the oil, the pan was completely dry. He poured in 4 quarts of oil. I went back to Mavis in Walden and was only given an apology and told to come back in a few days to see if the pan was empty again. Sad to say after a few days of driving, I got out my car and saw a long line of oil stain in my driveway. When my husband checked it out, there was a big hole in my engine. Thank God my insurance covered engine replacement. Because all I would have received was another apology from Mavis. read more

I had a two tires put on at franklin nj sts. I got a key in my tire traveling to see family.( STS and Mavis are now owned by the same company) They broke my sensor at STS. Gino and Andy went through a lot of red tape to fix my car when it was not even their issue. I appreciate them taking the time out to help me. I'm 5 months pregnant and traveling to nj again would have been too much. I'd highly reccomend this location because they took the time to fix someone else's issue when they didn't have to.
