I found Brooklinteriors on instagram and was originally struck by how, unlike many designers, Alicia did not adhere to a single style across all her projects, but really understood the style of each client. I checked a bunch of her references (because I was very nervous about finding someone on social media!) and they all said the same thing: you get so much more than what you're paying for when you work with Brooklinteriors. I have found that to be true a hundred times over. Alicia helped us put the finishing touches on our home renovation project--sourcing and positioning cabinet pulls, fixing lighting problems, and designing and upholstering a window seat cushion. Then we moved on the furnishings--the fun part. After creating a inspiration board, Alicia researched and presented me with many options for dining tables, couches, chairs, and more. I was struck by all the interesting, often local, and affordable companies she sourced pieces from--pillows from two sisters who are based in my neighborhood, a USA made leather ottoman with a cool table that nests on top-- she introduced me to so many brands and craftsmen that I had never heard of! She found gorgeous art and accessories made by artists that we are very happy to showcase in our home. Alicia managed the ordering, schedule, and even a couple tricky returns/refunds for everything we picked. She is meticulous and her attention to detail throughout the entire process was super-human! Throughout the project, she was respectful of our budget--never suggesting or pushing anything outrageous and often finding pieces that were priced lower than I anticipated paying. She was also very open to feedback, if a piece wasn't quite right, she wasn't married to it, and would quickly find new options for that space. The overall effect is a home that truly represents our lifestyle and aesthetic, but with more unique and interesting elements than we could have designed on our own. I'm eager to do another part of my house so Alicia can work with us again. That being said, she never really stops working on a project--she thinks of me often for little additions (like art) that we may want to add to the space and pops by whenever I have questions about what to do next. I started working with Alicia at a time when our lives were pretty chaotic--I was starting my own business and moving into a new home, among other things--it was so nice to have Alicia leading the design. She made my life SO MUCH EASIER and besides that, she's just a lovely human being to have around.

Not only was she extremely helpful in helping us edit, but she also had some genius storage solutions for our small home. In the end we made the right choice, and we also made a great friend in Mindy. I recommend her and Decor Aid to everyone who comes over after they stop gushing over how terrific everything looks. STAY AWAY. I waited…read morea while to write this review since I wanted to let my anger abate and I was busy with other things. But months later I feel a moral obligation to warn people about this company. If like me, you will likely read the reviews and the owner's responses and suspect that they are a good company and that the bad reviews are just from impossible people. But they quell the bad reviews with small payouts and gag orders (see the photo). They use contract workers who may or may not be able to get the job done. The discounts they promise never come true. In fact they quoted more than I would pay as a regular retail customer, for every single item I asked them about. (notice that they don't list the specifics of their discounts on their website...) When asked to come through on what they promise, they are unhelpful at best and often nasty (read the owner's comments on bad reviews to get a taste). When your project has gone on way too long, they haven't come through on any promises and you are at wits end, they may offer you a small sum to not write a bad review. I suspect that many of us, on modest budgets, take the money just to cut some of our losses. Before you get taken in by the good reviews and the pretty pictures, read the reviews again. Notice there are almost no reviews in the middle, only really bad and really glowing ones. The good ones all start to sound the same. Go to a website where employees write reviews and note that many say the company writes their own good reviews. See that gag order and think of how many people they silenced. I am out a lot of money and hope this review saves someone else.

I've been working with Carol from Avenue Design Group for a while now and she has helped me update…read morethe rooms in my home and create a beautiful flow from room to room. She is someone who pays attention to detail and will point out things to me that I never knew to consider. She has a great eye for design and will work with you to create a room with the look you want. She cares deeply about her work and takes a personal interest in her clients. She wants each room to look perfect and also to reflect her client's vision. Carol is great with color and will deliberate between different shades of white when I never even knew there was a difference. But it does always make a difference when she chooses the color and it's just right. She has helped me order a custom sofa that fit exactly into a small space and found me the perfect TV console to fit in my small room. She has great resources and works with very talented people. She has helped me with window treatments and rugs that work in each room. She arranged for my vintage dining room table and chairs to be refinished and helped me choose the chair covers and stain for the table to coordinate with the rest of the room. She also took my old dresser and had it refinished and then transformed my guest room to coordinate with it in style and color. Carol is so easy to work with and she is incredibly knowledgeable. She communicates regularly and always follows up. The best part is that she educates as she works with you and doesn't judge you. She will listen to you and then make suggestions and explain why she makes those suggestions. She is also very aware of budget and will work within your budget to create the look you want. I can't say enough good things about Carol. She is easy to work with, has great ideas and resources and really knows her business. I will definitely call Carol for my next project!

She came over to my apartment in Battery Park and, after taking a quick look around, gave me a lot of helpful design tips to fill the space. She listened to my budget needs and was able to accommodate both my style and budget when picking out furniture. As an interior designer, she has access to great discount prices I would not have been able to get if I had gone shopping myself. She also recommended a great housekeeper I now use regularly!
