The salad bar was outstanding (so fresh, it's probably locally grown). The items with the local bacon speciality were also particularly good (Speck Knödel and Krautsalat with Speck). We also had spaghetti pomodoro and the noodles were top notch (of course it's Italy). The beef in the "Geröstetes" was nothing special (well, it was good beef, but I'm not really a big fan of beef), but the rest was delicious. The portions are generous, but not ridiculuous Even with only one waitress for 6 tables, service was excellent. The waitress also spoke excellent English (and understood what it means to be Vegetarian). The restrooms were also spotless. Overall, without alcohol or dessert, the bill came to €22/person, which is a good price for the quality and quantity of food. I'd go there again without hesitation, except the Vegetarian options are limited (as in most of Kastelruth/Castelrotto).

The restaurant looks so cute and cosy, the staff is very attentive and really friendly - not a given in Italy! The food was amazingly good and homemade. The prices - compared to what we ordered - were very reasonable. As we come to South Tyrol every year for skiing, I am sure, we will come back to the Adlerkeller as well!

That time was a full blown dinner outing, complete with local Austrian food, and quasi-polka/top 40 (!) band, and some lovely drunk Russians who were kind enough to share their vodka. This time, it was just the two of us trekking up the hill which seemed especially steep on this cloudy, snowy, chilly day. But well worth the hike once inside where we were greeted with Weissbier and local Austrian red wine. We split a cheese and ham sandwich, and a sausage with sauerkraut. Both were good; a review slanted somewhat by the fact that we were cold, tired and starving! But it's a great hike, and a great reward for making it up the hill! A must do if you're in the area. By the way, going down the hill is a lot faster. Some rent toboggans and make the 40 minute journey in about 5 minutes flat!

Zwiebelrostbraten mit roestkartoffeln (Steak with Crispy Onions with roasted potatoes): The Steak with crispy onions & potato is apparently a pretty traditional dish, it was indeed a hearty and filling meal, the flavor was definitely great, the meat wasn't the leanest cut possible, but that's fine, to be expected. Steirischer Backhendlsalat mit Kernol (Fried chicken salad): The salad was very good too, fried chicken pieces over a green salad (over a potato salad). Once again, not light, but all tasted great. Not a huge place, but definitely felt like it could have been there for 100 years. The patio had a great view over the valley to the north, but it was a cooler evening so not many patrons out there. Only warning I give, as a visitor from another country, smoking indoors is still very common in Austria, so be prepared to walk into a smoky bar/restaurant/shop, otherwise we absolutely loved our meal here!
