I have been visiting Oahu since I was 7 years old, and not once have my family and I gone to a Luau. Mauka Warriors Luau was the perfect place to finally experience it. It was such a memorable experience. From start to finish, it felt like a full immersion into the culture with the food, performances, and atmosphere all making the night unforgettable. It was also such a unique, interactive experience, with opportunities to really engage with the performers and the show. FOOD: 9/10 SERVICE: 10/10 AMBIANCE: 10/10 We purchased the VIP experience, which included: Painted tattoos, which were so beautiful and intricate Free Lei and Lei bracelets upon arrival Free drink upon entering and Alcohol vouchers Seating up front near the stage Going up first to get food Experiences: Traditional Hawaiian buffet with kalua pork, poi, and tropical sides, and much more Fresh tropical drinks and cocktails Fire knife dance, hula performances, and live music How the kalua pork is taken out of the steaming hot ground Hat weaving FOOD: 9/10 The buffet had a great variety of authentic Hawaiian dishes. The kalua pork was tender and flavorful, the poi was traditional (definitely an acquired taste), and the sides complemented everything well. The tropical drinks were refreshing and perfectly sweet for the warm evening. SERVICE: 10/10 The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and welcoming. They guided guests through seating, drinks, and answered any questions about the dishes or performances, making the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. All the staff members of the show were very talented, passionate, and also funny. I loved how engaging they all were with the audience. AMBIANCE: 10/10 The show was incredible. The fire knife dance and hula performances were full of energy and skill. The outdoor setting, with beautiful views, made the evening feel relaxed yet festive. The interactive elements, like audience participation and photo opportunities with performers, made it even more special and memorable. The decorations on the table, stage, and all around were beautiful. I would 100% recommend going here to anyone who is looking for a fun, interactive, and worth-it luau.

A *SOLID*4 1/2 stars, with only one tiny glitch, which I will get to. I heard very good things about this luau, one of the things is that it's locally owned. It's run by local Polynesians, as well as military veterans. That's one of the reasons I decided to book. I booked through the ticket office at Pearl Harbor for a discount. You can also get a military/veterans discount booking directly with them. Even without the discount, The prices are reasonable for all that you get. They have three different price levels, and each price level determines what type of lei greeting you get, where you sit for the show, and the number of drink tickets you get. I chose the middle tier, which got me a kukui nut lei, seating in the middle section, and two drink tickets. The luau is about a half hour to 45 minutes from Honolulu, depending on traffic and where you are starting from. The luau is not on the beach, but the luau grounds were very well kept. I paid an extra $30 for transportation, and it was worth every penny. It's so nice to just be able to sit back and let somebody else do all of the driving. Our guide was "cousin Stephanie," and she was wonderful. So friendly, so engaging, she is Oahu born and raised, she told us lots of neat stories about the islands, as well as gave us some tips on places to visit and eat at. I cannot say enough, good things about her. We got to the grounds, and it did look like it was going to be raining, so they gave everybody who wanted one a poncho, the rain was sporadic and very light, but it was still nice to have them. There were activities, such as. (temporary.) Polynesian tattoos. Cooking lessons, having your photo taken with different items from Polynesia, making headbands, and other things. Before dinner, there was a hula lesson for those who wanted to try, and then there was the "imu" ceremony, were they pulled the pig from the oven in the ground. As for drinks, you could either purchase them from the bar, and they also had things such as fruit punch, water, etc. complementary. Dinner was authentic, and ono-licious! It was buffet style, and everything was good. I especially loved the fish, the kalua pork, the mac & cheese, as well as the grilled pineapple. I loved everything, but those were my favorites. If I were not so full, I would've gladly gone back for seconds. Here is a link to a typical menu......https://maukawarriorsluau.com/dinner-menu/ The show was about an hour long, and it was fantastic. The show differs from your typical luau, which covers Polynesia in general. This show, the theme is Polynesian war history told from the origins, to modern times. It weaves the different islands of Polynesia together, telling stories of historic battles, combined with the Polynesian spirit. It was very authentic, and I loved the show. They also did a tribute and a special "Thank you" to all of the military and veterans in the audience, which I also thought was very special. The one tiny thing that I have to take off a half a star for, was the way that they did the drink coupons. I got two drink coupons, so I thought, fine... Two drinks. I get to the bar, and on the menu, it said that only certain drinks were covered by the drink tickets. I don't drink, and they had two very interesting "mocktails" on the menu, but neither of them were covered by my drink ticket. It just covered things such as juice, soda, coconut, water, etc. I had two very nice cans of coconut water, they were OK, but I was a little bit disappointed. That is the only. Thing I could possibly say about the entire evening. Thank you for an amazing trip through the islands of Polynesia. I will definitely tell everybody I know that this is the luau to go to....

What a great night! I would 100% do it again! We got Lei'd as we walked in. Was gifted a coconut bowl to take home. There are a ton of activities before the food and show start from photos to "tattoos" and a small market. A drink as we walked in was delicious. The buffet was some of the best food. I got to try a lot of new things. The service was amazing. Highly recommend!

Amazing experience. Located in Kapolei close to the hotel we stayed at. They had a lot of interactive activities before the dinner and show. Our kids had so much fun. The drinks were amazing. Get the most expensive package can't remember what it was called but it was worth every penny. They also have shops that you can buy local jewelry, misc items for you and your loved ones. The food was delicious and they had a variety to choose from. The show was phenomenal. But the best part of this experience was the staff . From checking in to the entertainers to the photographers & the bar staff 10/10 service and highly recommended this luau as your choice while visiting Hawaii Shout out to uncle TUI who I met this night as well. Thank you for your hospitality and love

Mauka Warrior is the best Luau on Oahu in my opinion. I have been to almost all of them. Their Aloha is strong. Only Luau with Kava and the uncle explains it very well. They honor the military. The history they tell in the story of the show is so awesome. Dancers are amazing.

This was by far the highlight of our trip. The staff is so kind and welcoming. They make you feel like family. They do not skimp on the alcohol on the complimentary drinks. The pre-show activities are fun and informative about the culture. They take the time to acknowledge military personnel, birthdays, and anniversaries. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and they called all the couples on stage and played a Polynesian love song while we all slow danced then gave us a beautiful flower. There were multiple amazing shows and each told a story about the culture. I absolutely loved every minute of this show and would definitely return. This is a must do on your trip. Highly recommend.

One of the best decisions I made while visiting Oahu was going to this Luau. The staff are courteous and friendly. They make you feel as if they are glad you are there. There are vendors with various items for sale before the show. They make free flower bracelets and head crowns for only a tip. The show is fantastic with history, comedy, dancing and seriously amazing performances by the musicians. There are lots of opportunities for audience participation. I would recommend that you be sure to get a taste of the fresh pork after the cooking demonstration. The food is buffet style. There are at least 8-10 lines that move very rapidly and you have the opportunity to go back for second helpings. I highly recommend the fish!!! It was so fresh and tasty. We received two drink tickets with our meal. You can choose soft drinks, mixed drinks, and non alcoholic beverages. Be sure to review the list because not all drinks are covered by the ticket so be sure to take some money to purchase items you may desire. They had three drinks available for free at a help yourself table. I believe it was mango tea, some type of punch, and maybe ice water. I would recommend taking a light jacket if you are cold natured as it tends to get a little cool as the sun goes down. Definitely worth the time and money!!

We're like brothers from another mother! And we both are military veterans.

What can I say about an amazing Luau Experience!!! Everyone in Mauka Warriors Luau personnel were courteous, respectful, friendly, and had great, big smiles. The foods were delicious as expected of a luau with so much hype. Mauka Luau lived up to the hype and advertisements. The dancers, performers were excellent. Who knew that a luau can also be funny?! And they saved the best for last, the Fire Warriors which had us captivated with their stories, dances, and skills of handling the twirling Fire batons. It was a night to remember of Polynesian culture.

Lots of photo opportunities available

The Luau was nice, the dancers, singers, band were great. I enjoyed the cultural history via dance for the different islands. The food was mid, no real taste to anything except the salad with salad dressing. Come for the experience and the show, but don't expect the food to be tasty.

This was such an amazing evening. The food, ambiance, and service were top notch. The kids had a blast and didn't have any complaints. The dancers are very skilled and the people presenting were funny and kept us all entertained. The buffet had a wide variety of things and everyone left stuffed. We got to try some local foods that were tasty and learn about Polynesian traditions. It's worth the money for such a lovely experience.

This was our last activity the night before we left and I'm really happy we attended. They tell you and show you each different dances from different Polynesian islands and culture which was very interesting. The food was actually not bad either and the host was very entertaining. Definitely worth it and really fun!

We booked this kind of at the last minute in the mid-level seating area. When we arrived, we were a bit skeptical, as it looks like it is located in an industrial park. That being said, we were very impressed with the entire experience!! The activities and vendors before the show starts are very impressive. Our seats were also great!! We were seating somewhat in the center of the middle tier seating, and we had an excellent view. The MC was very entertaining and engaging. The find a way for everyone to participate, if you want to. Our 11 year old daughter was completely in awe of the entire show, and ran up on stage when they asked for children volunteers. We loved all the different countries represented, and it is truly a very cultural experience. And of course, the food was great. I wish there was another option for dessert, since I'm not a big fan of coconut, but I was happy with a big tray of fresh pineapple. My husband and I both agreed that the buffet had some of the best pork we have ever had. My ONLY complaint - and this is no reflection of the venue or staff - is the number of cell phones up in the air recording. One guy at the table next to us had a tripod set up on the end of their table recording the entire show. Others in front of us were all trying to get photos and videos with their phones all throughout the beginning, and certainly at the end with the fire knife dancers. I often felt like I was watching through someone else's phone. I get that you want to show your friends at home, but put the devices down, people, and just enjoy the show!! I didn't take any photos during the show, just before during the cooking demonstration and afterwards with the dancers (who were ALL amazing!). As a travel agent, I would most definitely recommend this luau to any of my clients visiting O'ahu.

Reminded me of "The Rock" (this performer was incredible)

The server was fantastic about answering questions and honestly she was the best part of the meal. I ordered the edamame and shrimp fried rice my mom ordered the Caesar salad. The portions are LARGE plenty for 3-4 people to split let alone two. Caesar salad was standard and good from what my mom told me. Edamame- I probably would not order this again. It was fine, but I didn't love the seasoning blend on it personally there are other things I would be interested in trying. Shrimp fried rice- I was really excited to try this and I was really hoping that it would be excellent and it was OK. The shrimp was cooked well and the fried rice just felt like it needed some more butter and it was lacking some of the things that make fried rice, fried rice like a fried egg so overall not my favorite dish. The gluten-free menu was pretty limited on options for me to try so I would probably go to somewhere else to try and get fried rice in the future.

Parking was good, and the overall vibe was chill, though it did get a bit noisy. The biggest issue was the condition of the restaurant. The place felt pretty run down. The floors were very dirty, the seats were torn and patched with electrical tape, and the windows were so dirty that we actually thought the restaurant had shut down one day when we were walking by. The bathrooms were also pretty gross, even for a casual bar/restaurant. I wanted to like it more because the food itself was good, but the cleanliness and upkeep really took away from the experience. They definitely need to do a better job maintaining the place. I'd probably only return if I heard they had cleaned up and refreshed the entire restaurant.

I've been here a total of 3 times, first time we tried the Hawaiian food, got take out, and most recently dined in and luckily we got some entertainment. We enjoyed the Hawaiian food, but I have to give credit to the other local foods we tried so far I got the pork chops with mushroom, garlic shrimp, crack chicken and smoked meat fried rice. Everything was tasty, really enjoyed it but just the crack chicken may be on the sweeter side, I would request for light sauce. The macaroni salad was fire! Rice cooked perfectly! Rice: This is a no brainer since we are in Hawaii, unfortunately some of the rice was hard and brown at the top (looked like it was scraped from the bottom of the pot) Macaroni Salad: Very bland, had to add salt Kalua Pig: Taste was good (only winner) Smoked Meat: Only my husband liked it Chicken Long Rice: Another huge disappointment, it was really soupy, basically more liquid than noodles and chicken Hoio Salad: Some of the fern shoots were so tough and I found myself spitting them out Overall: For the price we paid, this was NOT worth it and we felt embarrassed for our guests. Back to Laverne's we go. You know that saying: If ain't broke don't try and fix it.

I was on my way to Shabuya and ended up finding this food truck along the way as a happy accident…read more As a casual daily helper, I'm always looking at Yelp to help me find my next meal, so naturally I've heard of Laverne's for a while. When I found this food truck, I immediately wanted to stop by and see what the hype was about. I visited about 30 minutes before closing. The only thing they had run out of was the chop steak and one other protein, which wasn't too big of a deal for me. My eye was on the beef stew. Growing up in a Filipino household, I knew this dish as "caldareta." My dad would make this for me all the time. I asked for a bowl to go so I could enjoy it for dinner later. The first bite instantly sent me back to my family's home kitchen, where I would come home from school and find a pot of beef stew waiting for me. What I love about Hawaii is that it has a blend of cultures that I truly appreciate as a foodie, and experiences like this feel like a nostalgia tour. Thank you for this delicious meal. It made me miss my mom and dad a little more than I usually do. Food not only nourishes us, but also brings us back to a moment in time. I thank Laverne's for that.

Been coming here for a few years now usually on a Saturday morning when they first open. The…read moresecurity guard at the front is really kind and makes it feel like an exclusive club to get in. They've also put down more markers for customer parking which has been helpful in picking up food from here. The line can be long at times but they keep it moving quickly once you get inside. Hubs and I started dabbling beyond our usual kalbi and garlic chicken combo and crunchy garlic with tater tots. We tried a new addition to their menu: poké nachos. I've seen these elsewhere on island but their wontons are freshly fried, spiced with furikake, and don't feel too heavy. It's a nice vehicle to eat their poke and comes with Taegu as well as crab and seaweed salad. Did I have it twice in one week? Also yes. Their fish patties are moist and flavorful. Can't go wrong with their poke selection, good mouthfeel, fresh fish, and flavors are delicious. The energy here is fast paced and all the workers are kind/ answer questions. Will definitely be trying more tastes from here.

OMG --- the price/lb is less where we live but it' not as fresh. Tanioka's is organized if you're patient and willing to wait in line which almost everyone is. I'm not sure if I like so much merchandise from other businesses attracting us while waiting in line. The space is already small. The ambiance could be improved by downsizing on local merchandise. We are standing in line to purchase poke not other stuff. Consider refreshing that space. Service has always been good.
