Words can't do justice to the great experience I've had at ABC Keiki Care. As a mother of a newborn she brought smiles to my face as I would receive photos and text messages throughout the day. It is awesome to watch this woman work! My favorite message/video she sent me was of her trying to get my son down for his nap and patting his bum and being so responsive to his cues for more! It was hilarious and humbling to watch her care for him so individually. I found this quote once and it describes perfectly what I've found with ABC Keiki Care: Family child care Is NOT babysitting. It's not comparable To any child care center. It's FAMILIES in RELATIONSHIPS With a PROFESSIONAL Care provider In an environment, that becomes, BY DESIGN, a second home, And a whole bunch of people Partnering, trusting, caring And educating each other.

Not only as good as they think they are... But better!!!! This is more than a school, it's a family…read moreand many of the staff actually attended there! Looked at every option and am close friends with many of the teachers in different schools and they all agree, it's a place like no other, like almost back in time but not. You just don't deal with what you deal with anywhere else and it's hard to explain unless you experience it. I've seen many people try Maui for a short time with young children as a year experiment and literally stay here because of this place...which is much bigger decision that deciding on a neighborhood somewhere. Lunches... Yes... They are catered by a restaurant people love to eat at and how they make it so affordable for the parents, including tuition is beyond me. But be prepared to join in the fun and become part of something that you just have to see for yourself to get. It's not your typical private school... When my kiddo needed tutoring, they rallied around him with a dedication that you would rarely see from one's own family, let alone a school. Now he's ahead of the curve and loves school. Days off are fantastic and little kiddo graduations are like nothing you've ever seen in terms of just fun and support in the aloha spirit. This is the one place on school earth that you can actually tell your kids if they were absent a day, that they didn't miss school...school actually missed them.

I would actually give this school a negative star if I could. The staff is extremely RUDE, both…read moreadministrative as well as teaching. A private school education with NO real professionalism. My child attended their ELC program (When Mrs. Nicole Okada was there teaching the 3yr old group, and she is the ONLY reason why that ELC program succeeded, she is the absolute GEM of all teachers, truly a beautiful soul and we were so blessed to have her for the year that we did. Otherwise the staff (besides Jan Pasamonte- who was another piece of Heaven at that school) is unkind, sassy, brash and down right mean. They do not respond to you in a timely manner, if at all. When you call to inquire about their school, they completely cut you off the phone. (and we called SEVERAL times to give them the benefit of the doubt!) Lahaina has very few options for outstanding pre-K schools and Sacred Hearts is just another example of staff collecting paychecks rather than doing their jobs of educating the future. (DO NOT SEND your child to their preschool program-HORRIBLE, I watched several of their teachers yell and scold these young children- it is NOT a happy place!) **My husband and I actually got into contact with Holy Innocents Preschool, and will take a tour of their school soon, but one thing to note: Their personnel on the phone was actually pleasant to speak with and gave us useful and detailed information- FINALLY

We planned to be there for an extended winter vacation/honeymoon, 4 weeks. We knew that with 2 young kids, and only limited family on vacation with us for the earlier portion of the trip, we wouldn't be able to do very many activities or have alone time without hiring a sitter or finding a daycare. I almost gave up looking after seeing the prices of some of the nanny companies and finding out our kids were too young for the daycare provided by our resort and pre-schools; they needed to be 3! I did find a plethora of in-home daycares, but not being a local, we didn't completely trust that idea. I finally came across Kama'aina Kids' website and loved everything I saw. Not to mention, the prices were affordable, and their meals are included!!! I called and spoke to a nice girl that told me they always have openings and are always taking new kids. They told us to look at their website for requirements and to feel free to drop in to take a look at the place when we arrived. So our second day on the island, we called to let them know we may be stopping in. The only issue we had was that we didn't realize that the kids 2+ have to have Tuberculosis testing done. That put us a couple days behind on getting them enrolled. They do the testing pretty much at any urgent care for around 20 bucks. Once that was done and our 2 yo tested negative, the girls started in the nursery. The nice thing was that our girls were in the same room because of their closeness in age. We had three AmAzInG teachers; Diane, Desiree and Denita. My girls were so sad to see us leave everyday, but the team ensured us that the girls were always fine right after we left. Diane even called us a couple times to let us know how they were adjusting. They have a great setup with gated play areas. They feed the kids all their meals and snacks for the day. Formula is even included if your baby takes it. You just have to bring your own diapers and wipes and a few changes of clothes and blankets. It was great! I definitely would recommend Kama'aina kids if you want a trusted facility to take your kids to. The child to adult ratio is small. The hours are from 7-5:30 and you can drop in anytime you want. They give you detailed reports at the end of the day for feeding, changes, and nap times. Even if you are only there for a shorter vacation, they are open to new enrollment and are totally flexible. They let us pick our schedule each week, and drop off and pick up anytime we wanted. It was nice to get to know the teachers - we certainly will miss them and so will our girls. See you in the winter, ladies!!

We first walked in and immediately felt the passion that both Katie and Michelle had for not only teaching but for the kids. And it's definitely evident when we see them with our child. Below are just some of the many reasons we love the school: They follow the DOE (department of education) calendar. If you have other kids, you know how important it is to have them all off at the same time for vacations!  Small class sizes. The kids get the one-on-one they not only need, but deserve. The teachers really get to know the kids on a personal level and it shows when they do the parent teacher conferences. They are able to articulate where your child is excelling and where they need extra attention and give you the support you need to help them at home.  Strong Montessori foundation. We've explored many other types of schools but have found that Montessori is the absolute best for our child. She's just started Kindergarten and will be well above 2nd grade level once she's finished.  After school programs. The school offers many exciting after school programs that the kids love like soccer, dance, science and even yoga. These really benefit us in particular because they go beyond the normal school hours and work best with our work schedules.  Price. Very affordable especially considering the quality education that the kids receive and there are plenty of programs for financial assistance (preschool open doors).  Cultural/environmental awareness. One thing we really love is how our child is now very aware of their environmental footprint and how they can make positive changes. For instance, they have a Monk Seal responder team that will actually go out and meet when there is a Monk Seal sighting. This hands on approach is such an amazing way for the kids to learn. Also, the school is great at having lessons based on the Hawaiian culture and Maui in general.  Mahalo Nui Little Monk Seal Montessori!
