Whenever I am walking outside and inside, I love my prescription eyeglasses with the transition lenses that darken and lighten as needed. However, when the whole earpiece breaks off, it is terrible! So someone recommended that I go to Maui Optix for help. The first person I encountered was Sammy. She was so friendly and helpful. She told me the earpiece could NOT be fixed. Oh no! BUT, she might have a spare earpiece that may not match exactly but that may fix the glasses so that they can be used. Oh Boy! Yes, please. She did it in just a few minutes and sent me on my way. Good doctors. Very nice. Terrible business practices. I paid almost $600 (not including what my insurance paid) for regular reading glasses. Paid by credit card. They said the order would take 2 weeks. Took over 2 months (back ordered) to get the glasses. I was also owed a refund. They held my refund hostage saying my credit card company never paid them. I showed my bank statements for the charges, talked to my bank and went in and showed them statements a second time. Again they said their book keeper has no record of my bank paying them. OMG! I had them call my bank's disputes department to settle this. After 4 months they've finally agreed to give me my refund...only after telling me there is an additional charge that my insurance did not cover. Now they will mail me a check (instead of reimbursing my credit card) for about half the amount of my refund. Unbelievable. Major hassle. I will never go there again. read more

They maybe young, but they are thorough, kind and will explain to you each process, exam they're doing. Once your exam is done you'll be escorted outside. All of the technicians are kind and knowledgeable. By the time your exam is done, they'll let you know what specials/promotions are running (if there's any), let you know what your insurance will cover and let you know what your guesstimated out of pocket will be. Had one of the best experience seeing Dr Higuchi here. I lost my contacts when snorkeling and needed an eye exam for replacement. I was able to book a last minute appointment on the same day I called. Staff members are super helpful and kind. The exam was thorough and very professional. Dr Higuchi is a gem, she was so kind, knowledgeable in what she does, walked me through my exam results in a very detailed fashion, and offered me recommendations on vision correction surgeries, with the pros and cons of each. After checking in, your exam begins with a set of detailed, high-quality eye photographs for each eye. Afterwards, a tech has you do some vision tests, including peripheral vision, followed by an eye exam by one of their optometrists. Dr. Higuchi conducted a thorough eye exam and a detailed analysis of my eye photos. From that, she made a couple of medical diagnoses, one of which was new to me. I was pleased she caught both problems (one of which was very subtle and easily could be missed) at a very early stage, and that she noted on my record to monitor those. In addition to being an excellent diagnostician, she has a very calm manner, and asked if I had any questions. Front desk staff is also quite helpful. I scheduled an exam for next year, which will be my 4th year in a row with them. read more

Extremely disappointing! Professional, friendly diagnostic service, but office policies and staff suck! We called to make appointment to pickup $247 reading glasses, but recorded answering service advised office staff was too busy and under-staffed to answer calls, texts, or voicemail. When we appeared without appointment, we were made to stand outside on the stoop in hot sun because "office policy" did not allow entry without appointment! I wish there was a lower selection than one star. I have been a loyal customer of Maui Optix since 2012. Today, I brought my husband in to select a frame and drop off a prescription for new glasses. We entered the store. There was one customer to the left being assisted and two employees sitting in chairs to the right not doing anything. I said hello and told the masked one (yes...a masked employee when nobody else is wearing one...ridiculous). She immediately tells us we need an appointment. We were not there to see the optometrist. She told us if we wanted to wait," it would be a super long time". I have NEVER been asked to make an appointment for frame selection and to drop off a prescription since 2012. This was utter laziness and totally unprofessional. You could tell neither of these two employees had any desire to help anyone on a Saturday afternoon. We turned and walked. We drove to Lens Crafters at the mall. We were welcomed, helped and got new glasses in less than one hour...yes with a prescription. Maui Optix, I have spent ALOT of money in your establishment over the years...NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!! My husband would have been a loyal customer as well had you done your job. Not anymore. We are now LOYAL Lens Crafters customers here on Maui. Do NOT get anything at Maui Optix. The dilation finally wore off and I can actually see my phone and write this review lol. I found Maui Optix BECAUSE of yelp, and yelp reviews. I was not disappointed. The staff are all so friendly and accommodating. I was a new patient so they just give you a doctor who is available. I had the privilege to see Dr. Leong. Oh my god he is amazing!!! I've had glasses my entire life, since I was 2-3 and he is thus far my FAVORITE eye dr!!!! He is kind and soft spoken and actually listens to you. I had not seen an eye doctor in a few years because I didn't have medical. It was urgent. They fit me in their schedule pretty quickly (within a few days) and the tests were done quickly and efficiently. They have contacts on site and everything was easy. I also got to see the Optomitrist (Charlo), for an eye glasses fitting and she was knowledgeable and so nice. Everyone, from the moment you walk in, from the receptionists to the doctors assistant/nurse, doctors and optometrist there were friendly and I literally feel grateful to have found them. Made appointments here for myself and hubby to have eye exams as it had been over a year (maybe two?) since we'd been checked because of Covid. The staff is still following Covid protocols. Had several eye tests in one room and then went into the exam room. Staff was very professional. I have macular degeneration and was worried that this office might not have the staff to assess my problems, but they did. So, I really want to do a two-part review. I just picked up my glasses, needed them for years but too expensive on a disability income. Found out Maui Optix does take crappy Medquest insurance - so, they get a big Yahoo! 5 stars. They were super nice, amazingly professional - the Doc was brilliant. So, why the low rating? Well, if I just join the flow, no one will notice, and if no one notices, nothing negative can change for the better. So, I called to find out what it would cost to have a second pair of glasses (I would just like to see) as it's easy to lose one, and can only get 1 pair every 2 years (and nothin' fancy - don't want those poor folk getting too much niceness). I mentioned that I have my own great frames (super comfy) was told that with my plan it would cost me $70 for the lenses - totally reasonable! But then, I got the bad news: "It will cost $20 for you to use your own (perfectly good) frames..........". Thus the low rating. I think it's gross and greedy and disgusting to charge someone who is on disability (and not just the lazy, sitting at the beach, eating bonbons, don't wanna work kind of disability, the real medical kind) a single dime for being part of the cost solution by bringing in their own frames. I like the people at Maui Optix but am extremely unimpressed with the companies lack of community service attitude. But then again, no one told anyone they have to be community service/ humane oriented, did they? It's a business, what was I thinking? read more

Maui Optix is the best. I was on vacation on Maui and forgot my contact lenses. My bonehead doctor back home refused to send my prescription because it had expired by a lousy 5 days!! I telephoned all over the island to find a clinic that could get me in for an exam quickly and take my insurance. Maui Optix was the only one that would do it. They explained that if one of their patients was out of town and needed such a slight prescription extension without any prior eye issues that they would have provided the extension. Everyone there was so nice. The optician even gave me suggestions for places to take our grandkids. The exam was thorough and they even performed a test for free that my hometown clinic charged for. The optometrist was also very thorough and even explained symptoms I might be on the look for since my brother has glaucoma (she actually read my medical history form???). Their pricing was reasonable (unlike many places in Maui) and I even bought a second pair of sunglasses there. I think I will just return to Maui each year to get my annual checkup at Maui Optix!!!!!!! read more

I could be biased because I'm a UC Berkeley grad and a little biased to support 2 of the optometrists from UC Berkeley's highest ranked optometry school. I trust them with my eyes! 5 Stars for a 5-star service!!!!! We've been driving for an hour to the airport, going to Maui for a week vacation, when my daughter realized that she forgot her prescription glasses. I started calling for an optometrist as soon as we landed...I was greeted by a recorded message on the first one. I was able to get hold of someone on the next one and I explained our situation, but the lady sounded irritated and said they cannot accommodate us. Finally, I called Maui Optix and the lady on the other line was so nice and very helpful. She was able to squeeze an appointment and we were able to go straight from the airport. Dr. Wong was able to do a contact lense exam and provide the lenses right away, she even threw in an extra pair just in case. The whole lense exam went smoothly and my daughter really appreciated how patient and kind everyone was considering how the appointment was made on such short notice. My daughter's vision was enhanced and she was able to fully experience the beautiful island of Maui with no problems regarding her eyes whatsoever.
