STAY AWAY FROM MATTRESS FIRM (Dimond Blvd) in Anchorage:
Sleezy slime buckets with bait-n-switch delivery policies, take your hard-earned money elsewhere if you can!
As a clinical psychologist new to AK, I was very surprised to discover: it is difficult to purchase an adjustable CA King sized bed in Alaska! Every store I visited involved a 4-6 week wait. I also have a serious medical condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) resulting in excruciating back and neck pain and joints that don't stay in their sockets. A solid mattress is critical to my pain management and day-to-day independent living abilities.
Craig was initially pleasant when I made my purchase (I spent close to 3500.00 for a CA King bed & adjustable base & delivery/set-up.) He said he'd do everything in his power to "put a rush on it" after I explained my EDS. Imagine my joy, to get his call, 3.5 weeks into the waiting period, telling me that my new bed was here! Yay!!
Nope.
Me: Awesome! Can we somehow arrange to get the bed delivered today? My back is killing me from sleeping so long on a small twin mattress on the floor...
Craig: So let's see, you paid for the 99.00 delivery option. I checked with the warehouse and for ANOTHER 199.00, we can deliver your bed today. Or for ANOTHER 149.00, we can deliver in 2 days. But for the 99.00, you paid, it will be three days until we can deliver.
Me: What ? WTF???? Seriously, you gotta be kidding me-you NEVER EXPLAINED ANY OF THIS--
Craig: (whiny nasally voice) It's our policy. I'm really sorry, there's nothing I can do-
Me: Actually, Craig, there IS something you can do. Hang up with me, call the owner, and explain to them that a new customer who just spent 3500.00 and has a serious medical condition would like her bed delivered today for the 99.00 she already paid. (Personal pet peeve: having to coach obnoxious salesfolk on how to do their job. As a business owner myself, this is the exact kind of situation I'd happily step in to resolve.)
2-minutes later...
Craig: So, I spoke to my manager and I'm sorry, that's just our policy. You know, your bed IS here sooner than we thought-
Me: Craig, YOU said you'd put a rush on it-
Craig: Well, I was out the past two days-
Me: You know, this is truly the WORST customer service I've ever experienced in arranging a mattress delivery. You being out the past two days isn't my problem, someone should have called me as soon as the bed came in. I won't be paying you guys a penny more to deliver, and cannot wait to write a glowing Yelp review. How on earth can you think that this is an acceptable way to treat people?
Craig: (mamby-pamby whiny) I'm really sorry-
Me: I am disgusted, this is extortion, how do I arrange to get my bed delivered asap?
Craig: I'll call you Mon for a Tues delivery.
THIS IS EXTORTION. Yuck. Do yourself a favor and AVOID MATTRESS FIRM. My local, Alaskan friends take? Craig is trying to run himself a nice little side-business, taking advantage of unsuspecting, non-AK customers. Gross. read more
