There were several locked cabinets throughout the store, which I needed assistance with. Each time, including the first, I was met with some agitation, as though they were annoyed. How dare I, ask them for assistance, right? Keep in mind, I purchased something from each cabinet by the way. Treating a long-time customer or a PAYING customer, yet alone ANY customer this way is simply unacceptable. As a fellow business owner, I would be deeply ashamed of such poor customer service. I nearly walked out of the store due to the disrespect, but I felt it would be disrespectful with all the items I had set behind the counter to purchase and don't want to stoop to others' levels. I hope those of you I dealt with can do better. Regrettably, my perception of this store has been somewhat tainted. While I've always felt the younger girl and blonde women who are often around have always been exceptionally kind, (they were not present that day) I can't help but feel that the my last experience was more than disappointing. I've always been a loyal supporter of this local business, even when we've found better deals on eBay or at auctions. It's truly a shame.

When you shop at a boutique, you expect that higher prices mean you're getting something more unique, higher quality, or thoughtfully sourced. Instead, They're reselling mass market items at a 100% markup while presenting them as boutique finds. I think it's wrong to take advantage of customers this way, especially when you're shopping with the expectation that you're paying more for something special or unique. It Just be cautious and check brands before you splurge.

I've shopped here for many years and i've spent so much money at this shop buying trinkets, Fur…read morecoats, dresses, shoes, jewelry anything you could think of but after what i witnessed at this shop yesterday, ohh they will NOT be seeing me back. Let's start off here, there is one lady who usually works the front an elderly woman with white hair and glasses who is NEVER a ray of sunshine, always has an attitude, and has got a pitbull in the back that is constantly whining. The other is another elderly woman, smaller with short brown hair. From my first couple impressions of her she seemed sweet and helpful (looking back though she was probably just following me! ) and the other one was not polite but at least tolerable so i continued to shop there. Yesterday me and my sister were shopping there and there was a black gentleman shopping there as well for a little while like us. Later on, i was passing by him and the lady with the short hair, and I heard her tell the man "im gonna stick with you from now on" , when he asked why she said "because i don't trust you very much" . He was deeply offended as he should have been. He went up front hoping to get some voice of reason from the lady who works the front but of course she was bitter like she always is. He explained that the paper tag that they write their price's on with pencil had fell off and the other lady was accusing him of taking it off and trying to steal it. He told her what happened and he told her he was deeply insulted because he had spent 100s of dollars there before. She really told this man " you haven't spend 100s here" laughed and repeated it multiple times. She then said "you've shopped here before a few times but never spent 100s" As if that was his point right?? She then kept repeating to him " do you want to buy the ring or not " with an attitude like he had to either buy the ring or get out. Mind you, if he wanted to steal it, it wouldn't have mattered if he took that piece of paper that they call a tag off or not.. Bottom line is you shouldn't shop here and even myself as a loyal customer of YEARS will not be going back. The women that work here, own , manage whatever are racists!

I decided to leave my ring with her, and now I'm patiently waiting for it to be ready. The original quote was very reasonable, but the price increased a little after she discovered the ring needed repairs and additional gold to restore it properly. I'm excited to see the finished piece and know it'll be worth the wait.

Once again, summertime is here and that means garage sales citywide for anyone looking for bargains at a fraction of the cost by regular retailers or treasure-hunting for a rare, hard-to-find item just sitting in someone's attic or storage room. I look forward to these events every weekend just to take advantage of the warm, sunny weather and of course, the thrill of the hunt for that rare vinyl record hidden in a stack of milk crates or cardboard boxes. I find that the shopping experience is a lot more laid-back when meeting the people holding the garage sales despite the fact that you may not find what you need or want from time to time. Some are decent families who go out of their way to welcome visitors by having their kids make fresh lemonade or homemade cookies for only 25 cents making it that much more enjoyable personally. As far as items go, anything can be found that could be worth more than what the asking price is. Clothing, furniture, antiques, household goods, electronics, books, tools, sporting goods, and DVDs among others are some good finds that are still like new or never been used. When shopping for vinyl records, I save as much as $10 or $20 on a stack that can also be negotiable for a lower price as the weekend draws to a close. Certain garage sales will do this on every single item for as much as 50 to 75% off after 2PM on Sundays. In certain cases, you may be lucky to get that item for free rather than the sellers wanting to put it back in storage. Some good resources to find a garage sale close to you or one that carries a particular item you're looking for are the classifieds on the Anchorage Daily News's website, Craiglist, or Marketplace on Facebook. This is one of the more enjoyable weekend activities you can take advantage of outside instead of going to the mall or watching a movie in the theater during the middle of the day.

Rethink Home is a family-owned business located on W. Fireweed across from the VFW Post between Arctic and Spenard. The display floor is filled with an interesting mix of antique furniture, novelty items like 80's icon shirt button pins (Pac-Man, Mr. T, Galaga, Max Headroom, He-Man, and Q-Bert among others), a large detailed oil-style painting of Audrey Hepburn from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's displayed on the rear wall in the back room, Alaskan memorabilia, and crafts from local artists. Like all of my other reviews on antique stores, my main focus is the vinyl they have in wooden crates set up by the front register. The collection here is relatively small and like the secondhand thrift stores, they will arrive randomly without notice. There was an array of albums from the 40's and 50's up to the more modern artists from the 70's and 80's. I saw a few that caught my attention but unfortunately had to pass on because of the condition of some of the records. Some jazz albums I considered buying had visible surface scratches and split seams on either the top or bottom of the album covers. At $5 to $8 on some of these, these were priced relatively high by their condition alone. However, they did have a separate crate of records that were marked down to $2 or 50% from their original selling price, but again the condition was a concern. The nearby secondhand thrift stores had vinyl in better shape at only $1 apiece or .60 at the lowest with minimal surface scratches or fully intact album covers with the original inner sleeve available. However, the people running this store are very friendly and this place is a good option for anyone looking to purchase some paintings or a detailed wood-carved piece of vintage furniture.
