First, Josh is a very pleasant and personable professional trainer who has built a following by offering exceptional services. He is a current military man and an ex-law enforcement officer who has traveled to several countries to study and improve his dog training techniques. I spent several hours with Josh as he explained his philosophies and successful methods of dog training. I have met many dog trainers both in person and through the internet, but Josh has an honest and straightforward approach that really appeals to me! Next is the facility. It is a modern, free-standing building that was designed and constructed for the specific purpose of boarding and training dogs. It has plenty of lighting, both natural and artificial, huge environmental heating and cooling equipment, and large kennels with ample space to house his dogs as well as a system of drains that make it easy to keep the areas clean. There were quite a few dogs there at the time of my visit and the place smelled very clean, a testament to his attention to his charges and the maintenance of the facility. Sadly, I live too far away to take advantage of his services, but I would highly recommend Josh and his services to anyone seeking a safe, sanitary and comfortable place to train and board their dogs!

This large facility has either 3 or 4 large (rectangular) rings with a different class being given in each. There are a few daytime classes, but most are in the evening. All of the instructors are dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable volunteers who must love working with all breeds of dogs and their owner/handlers, as evidenced by their patience and understanding of the many dog training challenges. My dog also took basic obedience and the Canine Good Citizenship class which upon completion, he and 6 of the 7 the other dogs in the class passed on test day. My only criticism of this class is that we trained with treats the whole time, but the class before the test, we were told treats were not allowed by the AKC certified tester. (If we were told before, I must have been in denial.) This made a huge difference in my dog's willingness to listen to my commands once he realized there wasn't going to be any "pay/reward". I worked with him the week before the test giving him treats randomly as the instructor had suggested, but I feel that transition could and should have been emphasized and practiced more during the previous classes. DMOTC is still a terrific place for a wide variety of classes for your dog and I plan to continue taking my dog to their classes. They are also more affordable than other private for-profit dog training schools. We are lucky to have this established club in our community.

We decided to try DMOTC because it was closer than our previous trainer- Rover's Ranch. Signed up for puppy class. What a waste of time. Not only will you spend 45 minutes trying to listen to someone read a page of information to you, with two other classes going on at the same time, but she will only pause briefly periodically to let you try something occasionally with your dog. Useful things for good dog behavior like scooting their butt back while in down position or doing high fives (versus walking on a leash or good solid recalls) There is absolutely no socializing of your puppy with any of the other puppies in the class. One woman had a puppy that had not been around other dogs. It was trying to play, but no one was allowed to let dogs off leashes and people were encouraged to leave as soon as class was over. No playing-little, if any, interaction between people and other dogs or any actual skills the dog might need. We stopped going as it wasn't worth the time. If you are new to owning a dog or want your puppy to have experience with other dogs, save your money and look elsewhere.
