I had my natural light brown hair coloured and styled today by Jeena. It turned out even better than I had planned, and better than the pictures I showed her. She literally exceeded my expectations. Jeena did balayage, blow dried and styled my hair just last night and I've already had at least 4 people ask me where I got it done. It looks so natural and has no rough dramatic lines likes I've seen some women have. Everyone at the salon was super friendly and seemed to work so nicely as a team. The overall energy in the salon is so positive and cheerful! The whole process isn't cheap, but if pure going to do something, might as well do it right - especially colouring!!! One tip, if you're going to do balayage, when they first put the colour in and wash it out, your hair looks HIDEOUS until they tone it. Just be prepared for this, and then be AMAZED by the results!!! Even with my mask on, the stylist knew I wasn't happy ... at all. I was there before Christmas, and was very pleased. Perhaps they don't keep on file the colour you had. I was very specific saying I wanted it highlighted exactly the same as before. The end result was my hair colour was almost all blonde, you couldn't see any highlights at all. Just a bleached-out mess. The stylist was nice enough to try to correct it a week later, but it was still a bleached- out mess. I wish I had read the reviews before I went, because it seems like a number of people have had the same experience. read more

Update on my 1 review. A week later after my haircut I came back to fix it. The cut was better then the first one, at least I can style it, but it's still very uneven. The atmosphere is very friendly and I wanted to come back. And I did it again. I was promised they have very good master. So I made an appointment and took my chance. The haircut is a better quality, but it's not wow for the money you pay. I understand, it's difficult to correct somebody's mistake. Will see next time. read more

I have been seeing Matthew since Early Spring 2015 and had written a review at his old location. Prior to seeing him I had gone somewhere else and my colour was dull and the cut was terrible and trust me it wasn't a cheap place. Within the first visit Matthew did magic on my hair and told me it would take a few visits to correct the damage. This guy knows his stuff, he is the "Picasso" on colour. He knows the right way to make your highlights look natural and when your hair grows it blends in just perfect. I am extremely happy with his services and won't let anyone touch my hair. Customer service is superior, always very courteous and friendly staff. His new location is convenient and beautiful. read more

Super disappointed with how there service went for new customers. I've never been to this salon and probably never coming back. First of all soon as I walked in you get all these judging stairs from the staff makes you feel really uncomfortable. And before even booking my appointment I had sent pictures of how my hair looked and a picture of what I wanted. I even called the salon to make sure she seen the pictures and is aware. I drove 50mins there and when I got there she said she wasn't able to to do it....and shows me a picture of the complete opposite look. I understand she maybe couldn't have done it on her end. But the least you can do as a Professional company is a consultation or simply tell me from the photo that u arnt able to. Rather then me wasting my time driving all the way there knowing u can't. read more

Called to make an appointment and was treated horribly by the receptionist as I did not understand what certain services were and she was telling me they don't colour roots blond. Let me first start this review by saying that I came into this store with bleached hair with my black roots coming out very prominently. It was .... messy. I head into the store initially just to get get rid of the bleached hair and just dye it black, but Matthew had other ideas. His exact words were "We can't let this hair go to waste!" He then proceeded to tell Lexi, the awesometacular hair stylist, a complicated system of halves, quarters, and what not. The result was a chocolate look with a slightly brightened look at the ends. It was great and I am very satisfied with it. The experience was mostly handled by Lexi and she acted in a professional and knowledgeable manner that easily justified the price. I would highly recommend going to her as she truly knows what she is doing. The location is small, elegant, and quiet. A perfect place to get your hair fixed or revamped! read more

I overall like this place okay but it is confusing because every time I go there somebody else had done my hair. Especially the last time, I ended up having a line where the dye was meant to blend in with my highlights made by them before. I unfortunately realized that when I went to another salon. They showed it to me and pointed out that there was a huge color change in my hair especially when straightened. I don't like the fact that I get another job each time and I stopped going there. Extremely disappointed in the customer service. I booked an appointment with someone and it was cancelled two days before the last lockdown. Because it was my first time there the salon is refusing to reschedule me until their existing clients are all booked even though I had an appointment. BEWARE! If you are chosen to be a 'model' this is actually junior stylists training WITHOUT supervision! I specifically asked if the stylist was training and was told NO! The owner and everyone else will tell you they can do it, then completely ruin your hair! Not only did they destroy my hair, but the salon OWNER refuses to be accountable and fix it!! (Even read his comments!) Even after saying it was completely doable by his stylist! You are stuck paying for a colour correction!!! STAY AWAY!!! Matthew does a really great job. It's not as relaxing an atmosphere as other high end salons but the quality of their hair colouring services is high. Updated: I have now been here 4 times and I feel like I won't return. My last colouring was disappointing because my info was not on file (which surprised me, frankly. Everywhere else I've ever gone for colour kept a file so they could match what was done last time). I ended up with way too many highlights in my hair and was not happy with them. Matthew was very responsive and fit me in to fix it but I ultimately still don't love it because it isn't what I wanted - which was the colour he did for me originally a year ago. I appreciated his attempt to fix it but I still didn't get what I was after which says something is breaking down in the communication/consultation process. I also got the trainee for my wash and blow dry and she was mega rough. I'm sad that things have trended this direction because I was very happy with my experience last year. read more

So I am from Toronto and I searched all around Toronto and outside Toronto for the best hair salon possible, it seemed like this place was so professional and did a great job. My hair was down to my bum and dark brown and so thick and healthy last year. I went in for Balayage but wanted there to be a lot of blonde. The first session I paid hundreds of dollars and not one bit of blonde showed at all! I emailed Matthew and I sent him photos and he totally agreed that this was not what the hair was supposed to look like. So they gave me a free make up session and the same girl (a Chinese looking girl) did the same horrible job . The reason I say horrible is because there was supposed to be like half my head blond and she kept doing the smallest highlights possible that even Matthew agreed with me! In the first session I told the girl I didn't want to cut my hair at all but she rudely insisted I cut it... I said a small trim and she cut off half my hair. They even took the photos that they always do on Instagram of the after photos of your hair and guess what.... they TOOK mine down! Meaning it was that horrible and they knew it wasn't a good job! My hair has never grew back since...... oh and I spent like 800 for the smallest amount of blonde highlights. Never go to this place... the only good hair dresser is Matthew himself and you'd be waiting 3 months to get your hair done by him! Horrible place I hate it. I started my appointment showing the stylist pictures of my most recent balayage at another salon. I showed her several pictures and explained that I did NOT want any colour changes to my roots and just wanted to keep the very subtle balayage I had, it just needed to be darkened. I explained that I wanted a very small trim, an inch at most and that I really wanted to keep the length. I asked for warm tones slightly lighter than my natural dark brown and again no colour change to my roots. She explained that the way it is done at Matthew Jonathan the roots will have colour added to them to blend the rest of the balayage but not to worry it will be perfectly matched to my roots. I asked again if there was a way to leave my roots alone and she explained that this way it blends better and that I won't notice the difference as it will be a perfect match to my natural hair colour and grow out seamlessly. When she was done I quickly glanced at it in the salon paid and left. I wasn't in love with it but I figured it was because it was a change. Once I got home I inspected it well, the haircut was completely uneven, much longer on one side than the other, on one side she had take at least 5 inches. The colour was extremely light, much lighter than what I had walked in with, and I had dozens of streaks starting at my roots. My hair felt and looked like hay. I called the salon the next morning, I was asked to send pictures and asked to wait. I sent photos and waited. I didn't hear back so I called again, I was told the cut was uneven and that could be fixed and they could darken it if I wanted. I was crying on the phone to the receptionist who said that my hair "is wearable" and that I'll have to wait for an appointment to fix it. I understand that it is hard to fit people in with COVID and distancing, but there was no urgency on the receptionists part to fix it and was dismissive of how upset I was about it. The stylist offered to stay late that night and fix it, she genuinely tried to help. However my hair feels very damaged, it no longer holds curl, feels crunchy and its impossible to run a brush through. I did not walk out with the colours I wanted but the straw and grey tones were gone. She had to chop off a lot of hair to even out the cut, the front part of my hair has lost at least 6 inches, when I had repeatedly asked for 1 inch at most (JUST A TRIM). I understand that people make mistakes and that as a new client she wasn't familiar with my hair. However, this is a $240 balayage and $90 haircut. Plus a tip, which you have to pay in cash (you are told this in advance so I had it on me and handed it to her as I had planned) with the tip its a $430 hair do, a hair do I'm extremely unhappy with. Please don't go here if you know what you want. I repeatedly asked for my roots not to be touched, and for the length to be left alone but was told by the receptionist that the stylist is just thinking of the end result. THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO WHAT YOU WANT. They will do what they are trained to do. I will have to go elsewhere to get the colours I wanted and it will take 1.5+ years to regain the length. CAUTION!!! to those considering Matthew Jonathan. Read the negative reviews first. I didnt look at the poor reviews prior to booking and my experience is quite similar to alot of these reviews. I did not at all recieve what I asked for and it cost $440 which doesnt include a cut. I received highlights, toner and a basic blow dry. Also I was charged for balayage which is not the service/technique I recieved. What I asked for: -remove brass - overall full head of highlights (lots of highlights to get rid of most of brass by overall lightening) -level 10/11 very light blonde - cream/vanilla tone - no gold or ash tones -lighter around the front and hairline -dont want dark on roots (level 8 is waaaay to dark and I specifically said i dont want darker or dull ash) What I recieved: - highlights - not nearly enough highlights to lighten overall to remove brass - dark level 8 ash oner/colour all around my roots and front/hairline - dull ashy tones mixed with gold/brass in the rest of the hair not bright level 10/11 I asked for - now too dark at roots/hairline and lighter golden/ash at the ends - terrible contrast, looks like i need to get my roots done, and again what I came in with for him to fix There is a MAJOR issue with the communication and the consultation process. It would seem that Matthew does what he likes/thinks is best rather than listen to what the client wants. He clearly did not listen during the consultation process or at all after that, as he shouldve told me if he cannot do what I am asking for. I very clearly communicated at the consultation (with photos), prior to the service, repeated attempts to intervene during the service (as I realized he wasnt doing what I asked) and after (when I was so upset that he ignored what I was saying during and after. I noted several times to him and the stylist he had blow dry my hair (as he sat on his computer ignoring me once he finished) that he did not do what I asked and did exactly what I said I didnt want, then after many attempts while I was still there to tell him and ask him to fix it, he refused, then told me Id have to do it on the next visit 6-8 weeks later! WHAT? Pay another $440 again to get what I asked for the first time? You expect me to come back again? I contacted the salon via email that evening after I left to communicate my discontent. He responded saying"hes happy with what he did" and he "did a great job" seriously? He still did not respond at any of my concerns outlining that its clearly not as I requested and still refused to fix it. I emailed again to summarize what I has asked for and what I recieved askign him to fix it. He called me back, told me he did not read my email! And continued to say the same thing that he will not redo it due to potential further damage and that he did do a balayage? I ask him to explain how he provided me balayage service for $110 more than the highlights and toner I actually recieved and he said becasue he brought the toner through the ends? Let me say that I have thin fine hair, he grabbed a few (not all) peices that were sticking out of foils, gathered them together, put a toner/lighter on the ends and wrapped what little hair he had done that to and put it into 2 foils and left it on for 10 min then put a little purple shampoo on it. Thats not balayage?Nor did I ask for balayage I wanted full head of highlights to overall lighten and get rid of the brass. And I didnt want dark roots. Again if you search out reviews, it appears Im not the only one this has happened to. I emailed again and with the photos of before, after and pics of what I asked for to explain that its very clearly not done as I requested. He did not respond. The website says he guarentees there work for a week after service which he did NOT follow through with as he claims. He refuses to fix the further mess he made of my hair. Now Im left paying $440 for further damaged my hair that is not what I asked for, the tones and colour I sqid I DID NOT want, and a darker colour all around the face/root, not the lightneness/level I asked for, and still an ashy tone mixed with brass still remaining. It is worse than what I came in with with the only exception that there is a bit less brass becasue he toned it ashy again. I wanted overall highlights to lift lighter to get rid of the brass not darker or an ashy tone. I came in there with hair that had been processed with highlights previously and not light enough to get rid of the brass and they had put ash tones to try to correct it so I had lighter dull ashy/brassy tones that I came to him to correct which he did not. Why would he do the exact same as what had been done that I didnt like, plus put a level 8 darker at the roots so now it looks like I have months of regrowth at the root and it is not at all lighter its the same level of lightness I came in with. Strange but true that to keep a business good reviews, one can not always bribe the clients for recovery or further services. Which I received from Mathew as a free blow dry and hair conditioning Kerastase and even second voicemail on my phone to shape up my hair further putting the blame on my hair being damaged so that I change my bad experience at his salon which I wrote about 2 days ago. Since then I have received at least 5 or 6 calls 2 voicemail an answer on the yelp and another answer on my google. Was offered some free service such as blow dry .... between my very busy and hectic life. Yesterday I even answered while driving to the girl on the phone that only call me back in the evening pls as at present I am too busy and today I emailed Mathew to say I am not there for recovery and changing back the review to a 5 star. "Sorry Mathew, I am not ready to drive back from down town 30km to Oakville ever again trusting on these good reviews and waiting for more than 3 months for a hair cut. I can afford better salons and do not need free offers to give you back a better rate " PLS READ AND CHECK WHAT I SAID INSTEAD AND WORK ON YOUR BUSINESS INSTEAD OF GIVING ME FREE OFFERS TO GIVE YOU BACK A BETTER REVIEW. I am afraid it won't work like that for me. This is the what happened ... It was my 3rd visit today. First two times as Mathew suggested I was with Casandra and it was really atrocious experience. Minding that my second visit she was on her own with Gina and I was on time but last client of the day. No supervisor and they were rushing to leave. Sounded as if they didn't have lunch or were going to eat some where. My hair cut normally last at best salons in Toronto London Paris 20 min. And there I was less than 10 min for cut and less than 15 min blow dry. Which does not mean she was fast, instead rushed to leave. The same day when I arrived another lady hair high lights were orangish and she was talking to Cassandra and explaining her how unhappy she was and what could be done if any options? I really wonder how they get good rates as I only went and waited for over 3 months after Cassandra hair cut which I went back and asked her to book me next with Jonathan as my hair is difficult and she could be good but with my tick and volume straight hair I know some one should know enough how to layer and thin it out. I waited 3 months for an appointment with Mathew. Again he barely cut or layer or shortened my hair. I agree that they are welcoming and talk friendly but most salons I visited were same and even more real. I went with a happy mood as before that I did my nails for St Patrick day as well as some other events over the weekend and left with a very low mood. Minding that Mathew instead if I book another appointment with a new guy there Called Robin. What I totally do not understand is that if Mathew likes his job or he prefer only managing and if he only have few clients that he picks and prefer , otherwise no salon no Dr and no Lawyer is booked for 3 months. I booked not for 3 but 4 months and will wait once again for a week and a wash to see how can I recover form his 5 mins hair cut and fixation of blow-dry by the new guy there. Mentioning that I was on time but had to wait for about 15 more Min not for another client but for Mathew to end his conversations with a lady visiting salon. Two months ago, I booked an appointment with Matthew and was pampered. I have never left a hair salon feeling happier and more confident about my hair. I'm posting this now because I wanted to see how my hair would fare after months of being exposed to Canada's harsh winter weather conditions--and (didn't think it was possible but) it looks even better. I have been looking for a skilled colourist for so long that I was skeptic and anxious about each new stylist I came across. When I read Matthew's glowing reviews online however (Google, Facebook, Instagram and Yelp), I was convinced I had to visit! The photos were absolutely Pinterest-worthy and seemed like they were straight out of a hairdresser magazine. Matthew and his associates were very welcoming, and the salon itself had a modern and fresh look. I came a little earlier than my appointment and they offered me tea during my wait. Matthew took the time to understand the hairstyle I envisioned, which was difficult because I did not have any reference pictures to show him. I had grown out my hair and he had to work with very dark, virgin hair--and he nailed it! The entire process was so relaxing and therapeutic. I could not stop running my hand through my hair, in admiration, when he completed his work (and still do this today). You can really tell that Matthew is very passionate and proud of his work, and cares about his clients. It was raining outside when I was about to leave, and he walked me to my car with an umbrella--not caring that he was getting wet. For balayage, cut, and blow, be prepared to spend $300-$400. I can tell you though that it was worth every penny! I would highly recommend booking an appointment today as he seems to be fully booked 2-3 months in advance. The wait is worth it. But if you want it sooner, he sometimes posts status updates notifying clients of openings due to last minute cancellations so follow his Facebook page. read more

This salon is terrible. I had been once before, and the SENIOR stylist asked me what I wanted. I asked for layers. She said NO?! She doesn't do layers?! Literally insisted on cutting my hair all one length as I sat in the chair with wet hair. I was shocked and chose to simply go ahead and hope for the best while feeling super confused as to how cutting layers into my waist length hair was not possible? Tried to book another appt a year later to try a different stylist, give them another shot. Was courteous enough to let them know ahead of time of a medical condition that prevents me from wearing a mask. I get a call from their receptionist later that day saying forget it can't help you because of this and very unapologetically, everyone is too scared to help you. If the stylists are all wearing masks, aren't they protected then? She claimed they had a BY-law officer come in and advise them that they can deny service to those with disabilities. I called the city and there is no record of this by-law officer visit. Super weird and rude experience both times so never again for me. A virus with a 99% survival rate for the majority of the population does not warrant these discriminatory measures and I encourage everyone at this salon to take a little time to educate themselves. Plenty of amazing salons out there that are versed enough in the LAW and have a heart to accommodate those with disabilities. read more

very expensive and mathew is nice.But he is the only senior stylist/colorist. He is all over the web -so i thought i would try him - but what he does is bombard the websites. He is computer smart but he also uses ongoing marketing computerized emailswhich drove me crazy. I went there three times and figured that I spent over $850 with tip. And after the money they charge they still want me to pay for my hair to be dried. Really?! I know that is getting more common these days but it still grates on me. But what really put me off is that Matthew is generally too busy to get you in so he tries to pawn you off on jr. hair washers. If you refuse them, they will make you wait for weeks to get an appointment .There is no parking in the area and it is on busy lakeshore in Oakville. I know he is trying to build a business but while Mathew is pleasant the constant computer generated emails and the fact the you have to wait for weeks to get an appointment just made it not worth it to me. I have just decided to go elsewhere, pay 1/2 the price, get in within a week of calling for my appointment. read more
