I've been under the care of my cardiologist, Dr. Christopher Johnson, for a few years for some heart issues. During an angiogram he performed last February along with interventional cardiologist Patrick Goleski he discovered some arterial nastiness that could have become life threatening if not treated. Dr. Patrick Goleski performed the follow up angioplasty/stent implants last month and I can feel the difference. It was strange that morning entering the Bremerton Harrison Medical Center because I first had to verify I was a patient and not an employee, and then I was alone with the nurses in the surgery ward for two hours until Dr. Goleski and the surgical team walked in. About 90 minutes later when I was wheeled out of the OR there was one other patient waiting his turn. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dr. Goleski better in two follow up video visits. Without his face mask he has a warm smile and a humorous bu compassionate manner. He answered all my questions and gave me reassurances I could believe. The cardiology nurses who have called to check up on me and review different blood test results have been uniformly superb with their telephoneside manner and finding answers to my questions. Since the surgery, Dr. Johnson has answered questions I directed to him through the My Chart portal displaying his easygoing yet informative style. Before the surgery I hadn't really seen that much of him because Samantha Bylsma, PA-C, took over the handling of my care under the direction of Dr. Johnson. Sam and I truly have an interactive partnership where we discuss what the status of my heart and related issues (like blood pressure) are, she makes recommendations for my ongoing treatment and gets my agreement on all changes or what will just continue to be monitored. She's an exceptional physician to work with . I'm going to refrain from giving my opinions on the state of the business of medical care in this county. What I will emphasize is how fortunate I've been to be referred to the Bremerton office of HHP Cardiovascular Consultants and to the medical professionals who were assigned to handle my care. My doctor takes whatever time is necessary to give me the attention that I need. One would have to go a long time and distance to find any better medical care if that is possible. Dr. Dore was able to find solutions to some of my long-standing medical problems. Unfortunately, my experience over the last few years changed my opinion of the practice. A few years ago, the clinic switched to a membership model that required patients to pay approximately $300 per year just to remain a patient. That decision created a major issue with my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, which would no longer work with the clinic under that arrangement. As a result, I was forced to change my health insurance just so I could continue seeing my primary care physician after more than a decade as a patient. Even after paying the annual membership fee, I only saw my doctor once or twice a year for routine checkups. Paying hundreds of dollars every year simply for the privilege of remaining a patient never made sense to me. The final straw was how my billing was handled. The clinic stopped collecting my approximately $40 copay at the time of each visit and instead mailed me a bill afterward. I admit that I should have paid those bills when I received them. That's on me. However, according to the letter I received from the clinic, they had become frustrated that they had to call me to collect payment for these balances. From my perspective, it was confusing because these were small balances that could have easily been collected while I was standing at the front desk, as many medical offices routinely do. It seems like collecting the copay during the visit would have been easier and less expensive than mailing statements and making collection calls. I'm not sure why this became such a significant issue when it could have been avoided by simply collecting the payment at check-in or check-out. Instead of working with me to resolve the issue after 12 years as a loyal patient, the clinic chose to terminate our relationship. That was extremely disappointing. I have since learned that the practice was sold. Looking back, the move to a mandatory membership model felt like the practice became more focused on revenue than on maintaining long-term relationships with established patients. Whether or not that was the intention, that's certainly how it felt as someone who had been a loyal patient for over a decade. I hope other patients carefully consider whether paying an annual membership fee is worthwhile, especially if they only need routine preventive care. I also hope Washington continues to monitor concierge-style medical practices to ensure they remain transparent and patient-focused. After 12 years, I expected better communication, more flexibility, and a greater appreciation for patient loyalty.

There's a calm gentleness about him I've never experienced with any other physician. His staff adores him and I can see why. I feel the same way about him--and about them, too. I had chronically high--very high--blood pressure which he finally helped bring under control. He goes beyond simply treating kidney issues by treating other problems which can affect the kidneys. Dr. Albrecht also delivers solid advice for how to prevent some problems from getting worse, again in a calm, gentle manner which is never 'preachy' like it can be with other medical professionals. I like paying my co pays after the appointment. That way it's paid. The last time I was told there was no co pay. We thought that his deductible was meet for the year. It was someone else who said this not the main person. It would have been nice to have the main person acknowledge that she saw us by her head or hand movements. Both people were on the phone when we came in. We had to go sit down as my husband is in a walker and could not stand too long. The other person helped us when we acknowledged who we were. Each doctor knows who you are, spends time talking to you. They listen. They care. The location is great, just off the freeway in Olhava complex in Poulsbo. They are a members only facility. It is not much, and SO worth it just to know that you are part of a team that cares about you, cares about your health. Having a great doctor is great peace of mind. I'm not sure if they have room for more members, if not I recommend getting on their waiting list. They are awesome.
