Having had two children under his watchful eye and being an advocate for women, I highly recommend Dr. Christen to any client looking for birth with a provider who respects her as an individual, who does not want to put her through unnecessary examinations before or during the birth, and who inherently believes in her ability to give birth to her baby. I have seen Dr. Christen give his clients (including me) his full attention for as long was needed for her to feel that she understood what was being suggested, that she'd had her questions answered fully, and that she was choosing for herself, rather than being ushered into a decision she wasn't behind, and didn't fully understand. I refer any of my clients looking for an unfussed-with hospital birth to Dr. Christen and appreciate very much the options he offers women in our county - the type of care that sticks to science, reduction of risk, and treating women like human beings.

I award five stars to businesses, physicians or whoever that give me added value to their services,…read morewhich can be more than I expected or providing information I didn't know beforehand. Well, sir, it happened here. A dermotologist had recommended I see Dr. Sarah Neitzel for podiatric care and I had my PCP send a referral to her. When the office called to schedule an appointment I was told I'd be seeing her partner, Dr. Jarod Spencer instead. I agreed to the change. This is why it always pays to be open-minded. The office visit with Dr. Spencer was superb. Very friendly guy with an easy manner who really knows his stuff. We talked about the foot thing I had an issue with a slightly-regrown ingrown toe nail He gave me several options including two options for cutting the nail thing out. We agreed I'd try the options and then follow up in a couple of months. Have you ever been given new info and felt your brain expand with that new knowledge? Only me, huh? Well then, OK, let's continue. Anyway, my brain expanded after absorbing that new information. But THE best thing about my appointment with Dr. Spencer? Not once did he leave the exam room to check on other patients waiting in other exam rooms. I've gone to two single doctor podiatry practices where the one guy would be bopping back and forth between several rooms. So not only are you waiting for the guy to come back and finish whatever he started, you worry and hope that the guy remembers who YOU are and what your situation is and doesn't confuse you with another patient. I've had a past podiatrist say to me upon his return to the room, "OK, where were we? Oh yes..." Those guys are hyped up to begin with because they have to be in order retain sufficient energy (and hopefully mental focus) throughout the day--every day. Dr. Spencer was calm, friendly and professional. He was at ease which put me at ease--and this was our first visit. So, from now on, he's my guy. And since I've got various foot issues, it's comforting to know I found a great podiatrist I can trust, and well deserves this five-star rating.

I was a patient at Olympic Internal Medicine for approximately 12 years. During that time, I was…read moregenerally very happy with the care I received. Unfortunately, my experience over the last few years changed my opinion of the practice. A few years ago, the clinic switched to a membership model that required patients to pay approximately $300 per year just to remain a patient. That decision created a major issue with my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, which would no longer work with the clinic under that arrangement. As a result, I was forced to change my health insurance just so I could continue seeing my primary care physician after more than a decade as a patient. Even after paying the annual membership fee, I only saw my doctor once or twice a year for routine checkups. Paying hundreds of dollars every year simply for the privilege of remaining a patient never made sense to me. The final straw was how my billing was handled. The clinic stopped collecting my approximately $40 copay at the time of each visit and instead mailed me a bill afterward. I admit that I should have paid those bills when I received them. That's on me. However, according to the letter I received from the clinic, they had become frustrated that they had to call me to collect payment for these balances. From my perspective, it was confusing because these were small balances that could have easily been collected while I was standing at the front desk, as many medical offices routinely do. It seems like collecting the copay during the visit would have been easier and less expensive than mailing statements and making collection calls. I'm not sure why this became such a significant issue when it could have been avoided by simply collecting the payment at check-in or check-out. Instead of working with me to resolve the issue after 12 years as a loyal patient, the clinic chose to terminate our relationship. That was extremely disappointing. I have since learned that the practice was sold. Looking back, the move to a mandatory membership model felt like the practice became more focused on revenue than on maintaining long-term relationships with established patients. Whether or not that was the intention, that's certainly how it felt as someone who had been a loyal patient for over a decade. I hope other patients carefully consider whether paying an annual membership fee is worthwhile, especially if they only need routine preventive care. I also hope Washington continues to monitor concierge-style medical practices to ensure they remain transparent and patient-focused. After 12 years, I expected better communication, more flexibility, and a greater appreciation for patient loyalty.

I called after work yesterday (4:40PM, Wednesday) and asked about setting an appointment for my yearly physical. While I dread the inevitable PAP smear, I'd totally deal with a little bit of discomfort to make sure my lady-parts are working like they should. I had visited their clinic last year, had my physical and the year mark was coming up so I thought I'd set the appointment early before my children's summer activities kicked into gear. I spoke with an older lady on the phone, asked to set an appointment for my yearly physical and asked what times were available, preferrably as soon as she can get me in. She told me the soonest appointment she can set for my physical was Thursday at 8:30am. I asked if there was anything else closer to the end of the business day and unfortunately, no there isn't. Great. I asked if there was anything available closer to the lunch hour and she said Friday at 11:30am. She asked me if I wanted to set the physical for that date/time but I told her I needed to check with my job first to make sure I had some time off for it. I told her I'd call back tomorrow to set the appointment, asked for her direct line and she told me anyone would be able to set the appointment for me. I called back today (Thursday), after getting the thumbs up from work to set the appointment. I get this snide receptionist who says there isn't an opening on Friday at 11:30am. I tell her about my situation, how I spoke with some older lady yesterday and she gave me available appointments for the physical, etc. She scoffs and says "sorry no, there aren't any physicals available at that time". OK! So.. Long story short, we had a circular conversation about what I was told when I called in yesterday and how it wasn't her problem that I was told that since SHE didn't tell me that information herself. She asked me who I spoke to and I told her I never got the lady's name because I didn't think I'd have to defend myself and the information I was given the following day. The best part? I asked her to find out who I spoke with so she said she'd ask around. She put me on hold for a few minutes, came back on the line and said "sorry you misunderstood the information that was given to you". Excuse me? She goes on to say that the lady I spoke to said there was an "opening" for Friday at 11:30am but it wasn't an opening for a PHYSICAL... So let me get this straight, I ask to set an appointment for a physical, I am given the dates and times for supposed available appointments for a physical and the following day I'm told that the date/time given was an "opening", but not an "opening" for a physical? What good would that appointment be to me? I mean, seriously. A little common sense here. I'm pretty sure people who call to set an appointment for a physical expect to be given available appointment times for....A PHYSICAL! I am VERY disappointed with the way the situation turned out. It doesn't take rocket science to see how ridiculous this whole scenario was. Given the lack of knowledge and common sense, she could have at least offered to work with me to set another appointment or at the VERY least own up to THEIR mistake instead of pointing the finger at me and saying "I misunderstood". Like I said, the doctors here are nice enough, but they should really consider re-training or re-hiring some competent and friendly people at the front desk. These are the faces and personalities who deal with the doctors' patients day-in and day-out. It's poor practice to have a horrible conversation with a patient then try to interject with a "well you NEED to be seen anyway so you'll NEED to set an appointment for your physical." While I may "need" to be seen by a doctor for my yearly check-up, I certainly do not "NEED" to do that with your clinic.
