I can't say enough great things about this florist shop! It's been in the family for generations and sits directly on a farm off the 101 in Leucadia! They also have candles and other goodies for purchase when you are buying your arrangements. My favorite way to order flowers here is to allow them to do their thing and make an arrangement with a budget. The Leucadia Florist is in the Jesus is Lord compound and right down the street from my house. It is super convenient and they have florists that make great arrangements. Late in the afternoon on Good Friday I got a call to let me know that I had received flowers. I was filled with joy and skipped down to bring them in. I love getting flowers! Somehow during the delvery there was a problem and I contacted them to let them know. The owner, Leah came and replaced my arrangement. That is great service! Got a beautiful delivery of 3 dozen roses Feb 13 around 630-7p What I appreciated was the fact that even though I wasn't home to receive the delivery, the delivery guy left me a phone message saying that he left a delivery on my front porch on the small table. Otherwise, I don't think I would have known about the delivery. The roses were beautiful and you could tell the quality was quite nice. Not sure how much the roses cost but I don't think they were cheap :( But honestly, the better the roses, the longer they last (have you ever noticed how quickly supermarket roses die??). I received a voicemail letting me know that a floral delivery had been made at my front door. The gentleman who left the message sounded tickled fushia - I don't know if it was because of my profusion of gnomes or that he was happy to be the bearer of glad tidings. Who doesn't love receiving flowers? Well, he had good reason to sound pleased, because he was representing a quality product. They used some really specimen flowers in rare hues, and not a leaf of cheap filler. The occasion for the flowers was a sad one, but I'm glad to know of a good florist nearby. read more

However, the arrangement was very disjointed...not arranged in any particular way so every side of the arrangement looked different! Service: very good service here. They showed me the wide variety of flowers they have. All of them looked very fresh and colorful. They answered all of the questions I had. Parking: small little lot that is hard to back out of to get back to the main road. There are signs posted to guide you to this place. Product: large variety of flowers. They do everything that any other flower shop does. They accept credit or debit, but charge $.75 for anything less than $10. I bought a dozen beautiful long stem roses for $9.99. The bouquet of long stemmed red roses with pine needle sprigs and foliage was beautiful when delivered on a Friday night, but by Monday they were drooping and the petals were turning black. The roses never opened up! I emailed Mattesons and they said they would call to discuss but I haven't heard anything. Really disappointed since my husband spent a good amount of money to surprise me, and it was a really special night for us. This photo was taken on Monday night, 3 days after delivery. ----------------------- 12/28/17: I'm updating my review to reflect the great customer service I received after the florist did call me to apologize for the flowers and replace them with a new bouquet. The new one is the exact same, and the roses are very much thriving and getting ready to open up and it's been 5 days! Thank you again for replacing them, and having them delivered. After reading the strangely (wink wink) informative review posted before, I came here intending to quickly buy some flowers for my sister. I passed the Jesus sign, parked in their lot and walked in. "Hello?" I asked inside the empty storefront. After no answer I proceeded to the flower fridge. It looked a little empty, save for a fresh bucket of mixed roses, but I thought maybe there was something else inside. I opened the fridge, and could smell cut flowers. I could even see many rows, through a dense black net separating the fridge to another side. I exited the fridge and tried another greeting. An energetic employee appeared from behind the counter "Oh! I didn't know someone was in here. Can I help you? "I'd like to buy some flowers." "Oh ok, are you looking for roses, we--" "Roses would be fine, but I'm-- "We have rose specials if that's what you're looking for." "Sorry, roses would be fine, but I'm also looking for lilies, tuberoses, mums, or other flowers really based on quality. I wouldn't know until I saw them. Can I take a look at your selection?" "I'm sorry, I can't let you back there. We're remodeling. My boss wouldn't let me. I can bring out some roses for you though if you'd like" "I really don't need to see the roses right now. Can you tell me what else you have in stock, what's more fresh?" "I can bring out some flower types if you tell me what kind, the roses are-" "What else do you have, besides roses? I have been a customer of Matteson's from all the way back (and I mean WAY BACK) when I was in high school. Back then, flowers were a luxury purchase for me, but they were essential in my quest to woo the ladies. While my quest was a complete failure, time and time again, I was at least able to count on Matteson's to help me with affordable, beautiful flowers. Through college, I continued buying from Matteson's. There were many florists around UCSD, but wow--the prices! In comparison to Matteson's, every day was Valentine's Day at these other stores, and the product wasn't of any higher quality! On to present day, where Leah and her staff have provided excellent service that goes above and beyond for both my happiest of days (wedding) and my saddest (memorial service for my grandfather). Leah even helped me hunt down some trees that I was trying to get for our reception, and at the last minute was sourcing manzanita branches for me. All this, and still remaining affordable and of excellent quality. Customer for life, right here. I can't recommend them more highly! read more

We supplied several sized mason jars as vases before hand and they delivered the florals pre-set in the jars at the wedding. One star is generous.... 50th birthday...Meet Matteson's delivery guy at the door with flowers late afternoon. I can see that the water is slightly yellow as he hands them to me. A little surprised but take them any way. Once inside my home I notice what I think is dirt on the tulle netting bow...turns out it's not dirt at all. It's dried dark GREY PAINT. Two long strips of paint on the bow WOW, really! shop must have painted. I try hard to focus on mom's intent...Happy Birthday and all...Next morning I wake up to very fast rotting flowers and vase water as yellow as what people do in the toilet. So one could safely assume that this florist DOESNT use preservative in thier bouquets. I finally reached mom to thank her for the "flowers". She asked if they were an arrangement well worth the $80 she had spent! I just about tossed my cookies!!! Not only was it not a bouquet worthy of such cost....it was pretty low budget and rotting FAST. The tall clear, very common vase, u know the one EVERYone gets likely to find at garage sales or the .99 cent store, cheap tulle netting "bow" and zero preservative and day or two old flowers likely pre-arranged before even getting to me. I changed the water out quickly and added a few drops of bleach. 2.5 days in HALF the bouqet is already in the trash. Even at a generous $20 delivery charge for less than 5 miles delievery, I'm certainly not looking at a $60 bouquet of flowers. I complained to Matteson by email and on phone with the store rep. NEVER DID GET TO SPEAK WITH THE HIDING MANGER...Store clerk said they'd get back to me. Nothing. I asked that they return some money to my retired mom...Yeah and that will happen (not). Just very annoyed and extremely disappointed...just find something other than flowers to give....my mom just put $80 on the counter and I swept it in the trash in 2.5 days!!! Rediculous...worst...flower experience ever. read more

first off i don't find myself in this part of town very often but my grandma now lives close by mattesons and i've passed them going to her house and thought since it was her birthday i'd stop in and grab and arrangement for her. i had read reviews on yelp before i'd driven up there and found a mix of loves and hates, as with many places on yelp, so i decided to experience it myself. I was very pleased with the service AND selection of flowers. they had some premade arrangements but the girl working said she'd be happy to make me an arrangement if i wanted so i took her up on it. my grandma is a fan of gerbra daisies and tuber rose so with that in mind, the girl made a fantastic arrangement that i knew my grams would love. the colors and the look were fantastic and the quality of the flowers we by far up to par. I worked in a flower shop years ago so i know what to look for in the quality and freshness of flowers. the price was reasonable and i was in and out quickly. my grandmother loved the arrangement and said flowers were still holding strong nearly 5 days later. i would recommend mattesons and go back myself. it's nice to give my money to a "homegrown" florist then the big box flower shops and grocery stores.
