After hearing about this place, i decided to stop in this past weekend. In my mind, I kind of imagined it to be a giant factory store with amazing deals, but in reality I was a bit disappointed. The place is pretty small. Maybe a couple thousand square feet under the Mattel corporate building in an El Segundo business park. Like a small toy store but with none of the charm and only Mattel brands. What's worse is there are hardly any deals - with a price scanner on the iPhone, I was able to quickly find out Amazon had many, if not all the toys and goods, for the same or less! selection was disappointing too, and what stuff there was on clearance was old or just garbage. If you sign up for their newsletter you can get an additional 10% off and if you shop there on a Tuesday there is an additional 25% off. I'm still not sure its worth it. read more

I went to have lunch with a friend of mine that works at Mattel's corporate HQ. While waiting for her, I was able to visit their Mattel store which is on the first floor of the HQ. When one thinks of a corporate HQ, you'd think that their HQ store would be their prized jewel. I've been able to visit Nike's HQ in Oregon, REI's HQ in Seattle, Cox Cable and UPS in Atlanta. All those places were fantastic places to visit. Worthy of their brands. Unfortunately, the Mattel HQ store felt like a ghetto Walmart. So ghetto that it makes your ghetto Walmart feel upscale. The merchandise is lacking in terms of selection and quality. The products seem to be the items that were returned by other retailers because a lot of the packaging had damaged. I'm not an expert in toy pricing, but it felt like the price of the products were higher than what you could get at Walmart. read more

I stayed at the hotel that is across the parking lot to Mattel. I was so excited to go check out the store when I had some time. Finally I got lucky and was able to squeeze it in at the end of the day. Was hoping for cool different toys or good deals on regular toys. And was disappointed to that neither was present. There was a selection but it wasn't as vast as I was hoping for the employee store to have. And with the power of the internet in our hands I was able to compare pricing to the Mattel store. And pricing was about the same or possibly slightly more or less for places I checked. So unless you get there and are lucky enough to find something good in the sale bin or if there is a good sale going on I don't think you'll be saving to much money here. read more

Ive been here a couple times, to get gifts. This location is a lot smaller than the one in City of Industry. Parking is really tight here. Prices aren't much cheaper unless there's a coupon or you know someone that works for Mattel (they get 50% off). If you are in the SGV area you're better off goin to the City of Industry one. You re not gonna find the latest and greatest toys. I have a niece and nephew that loves "Little People" toys so it works out just fine. read more

If you come to El Segundo CA you have to visit the only Mattel Toy Store around! Ask for Ada (not sure if I have the spelling correct) but she loves her job which means Mattel must be doing something right with their employees (good treatment goes along way) she can tell you so much about the items and if your a collector then you must come see this store! read more

Not bad in here i had mixed feelings reading the reviews but glad i came its 35% off and some items are 60% i hit the barbie section and glad i did i found some ethnic barbies and was happy to have found one that had a 60% off tag. $56 well spent got my toddler 4 barbies and some little people cars and little people princess bath toys walked out with 8 boxes and spent $56 and my savings was $32 not bad at all. I will be returning as my 2.5 year old gets older ans really gets into barbies. It is small but it have a lot of toys so dont let the small space scare you although it was a bit going in and out of aisle's with the store packed and baskets everywhere but thats everywhere during christmas season. read more

This toy store (primarily featuring Barbie, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Fisher Price) is open to the public and offers reasonable prices (they also seem to offer discounts to employees of many nearby businesses). The selection was good (and probably better than what you would find at most toy stores), but both the store and selection were not as good as I was expecting. Service was pleasant. Mattel Toy Store is located in an office complex, but parking is free. There are spaces (just right of the entrance) dedicated for Mattel Toy Store customers. read more

Gifts For Other Peoples Kids. Discounted 1st quality Mattel toys so you look like a hero while spending closer to zero. They even have a "bump and scratch" area where some toys' packaging has been crushed but the toy is fine. The selection is limited but they do have current and popular items. They had characters from the movie Cars, and Batman, Dora the Explorer, and characters from the Barbie line (in several race/gender/action attire.) Really, Barbies for $8? Yes, they're here! You can also ask for coupons at the register, on your way in, to take advantage of extra discounts and dollars off. They had an additional $5 off of a regular priced item on the day I visited. They also have a huge tent around the corner (walking distance but bring a coat if it's a cold day) but it's only around this time of year. From baby gifts to grade schoolages, this place has never disappointed me for that generic or emergency gift. read more

We drove here from the Inland Empire the weekend before Christmas and it did not disappoint. We found many items for our boys (4.5 and 1 years old) that they will enjoy. Sad that all of the other locations have closed, it was so easy going to the Chino location, but it was surprisingly not a bad drive - hardly any traffic. This review is for their annual tent sale. They have a HUGE tent set up behind their building and literally have pallets of newest toys for sale at a significantly discounted prices. I can tell you that I purchased over a dozen high quality toys which retails for over $15-$20 each all for about $85 dollars. Made my first visit here today. First let me say the employees are all so very nice and eager to help. That was so refreshing these days. The first thing I saw upon entering was a display of Lil Gleemerz. This is apparently the hot ticket item. Think Fingerlings on steroids. I put a couple in my cart. By the time I got back to the front of the store, most were gone! (Btw, there are many quantity limitations). Anyway, in terms of selection, I would say it's hit or miss. I think it would be best to go in with no expectations. With that in mind, we hit up the Hot Wheel section. As far as Hot Wheels go they have many many collector lines. I managed to pick up a Minecraft Hot Wheel set! I also found a Rebound Raceway in the 50% off wall (more on that later ;)~ Monster High was also on our list. I was looking for the High School set. The Monster High section is rather scarce. I did pick up a couple-few hard to find dolls. Barbie. Many, many Barbies. Lol. They have the high end designer Barbies. Serious $$ Barbies. That brings me to the back wall. Green tags 50% off marked price. I found most of my purchases here. Ever After Tall dolls, Monster High dolls, above mentioned Hot Wheels. And more. The key to this store is to be open minded and look for the sale signs. Most are $5, $10. Finally, they have punch cards worth $10 and an email incentive. I will return to this store. This place is clean and packed with toys. Sometimes they are the very toys you can find on the shelves of Target and other times they are the toys you find on the shelves of the KMart clearance section. The prices are actually comparable to Target so I most definitely would NOT shop this outlet unless you manage to score a 50% off coupon or know an employee. I shop here because I get an additional discount which makes the items incredibly cheap and worth the trip it takes me to get there. read more

The staff are very friendly and engaging. The store is clean and well-organized. Selection is hit or miss, with a lot of older merchandise (4-5 years old) which I would have expected to be marked down further than it was. My main complaint was with the line management at opening. Apparently there are regulars who come every day (or close to it), arrive 2 hours before the store opens, leave some personal item (a bag, a chair, a skateboard, etc) and then leave until the store is about to open. This behavior is accepted by the staff and the other regulars. I waited at my place in line for 45 minutes, then in the 5 minutes before the store opened I went from being 3rd in line to being 20th in line. Also, they limit quantities on certain items, so - for example - a person could buy 3 action figures from the He-Man line, but only if they were 3 different characters. I'm not sure how this rule gets applied to Barbie/Hot Wheels, etc. The bargains weren't worth the frustration. read more

Check the website for sale dates and coupons. The best deals are in the clearance section. The City of Industry location is much larger and seems to have more sale items. Residents of El Segundo receive an additional discount. This location is not usually open on Saturdays and Sundays but check their calendar for special saturday sales and holiday hours. This is my go to store when shopping for a kids or baby's gift. Their clearance section is really a great value. They have a big tent they put out around thanksgiving that's also really good. Sometimes they have really good sales too. Specially around holidays. I'm still a little iffy about the way they remodeled but I guess I have to get used to it. Very disappointing egg hunt experience at Mattel!!! Waited a long time outside for them to open at 10am. Got in and there were no eggs left!!!!!!!!! Because kids/parents ahead of us had them all in their baskets already! We wasted 30min looking for eggs inside the store to only be disappointed and frustrated! Luckily, there was this one little boy that shared one of this two eggs to Seth because he saw how vividly upset Seth was!!! As you can see in the photo, Sethie was so happy with even just one egg! Meanwhile, there were other selfish and greedy people there with at least a dozen if not more in there baskets jumping up and down the store while other kids have none!!! Good job parents for teaching your kids to be selfish and greedy!!! And thank you Mattel for being so mean to not have rules about limiting the number of eggs a child can have so there are enough for everyone. It was heartbreaking to see the faces of those kids with none!!!! They came in there happy, smiling and excited and they got out just plain sad. I been going to the El Segundo store for the last 20 years to buy Xmas and birthday gifts spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars but today was my last day buying any Mattel product. I went today for a gift for my grandson and manager Ismail called the police on all my family because he said I was steeling. Police came over and asked us questions and said am sorry but manager called us because he thought we were stilling.
