We went to Park St. location tonight for family birthday and were very disappointed. Have eaten there in the past and had no complaints but this evening was different. The large tempura appetizer platter was greasy and fish was tasteless. The The Nigiri Nika (squid) was so tough, it was completely inedible. We sent it back, barely touched, and asked for it to be removed from our bill. They would not remove it. We ordered 2 Korean dishes. The beef Bulgogi tasted like baking soda and was horribly tough and the Kalbi (short ribs) was adequate but overpriced at $34.95). With one tea, and one ginger ale the bill was $131 for 3 people. I've been going here for basically decades now. But as of this year, I've had a resurgence in interest for this place again. While the prices have changed (as is everything that can be affected by inflation), the quality is still what I feel is the absolute best in the city. The chefs are masters in their craft, the staff is always friendly, the place is always clean, and my orders are always consistent! Other places in Peterborough have their niche, but Matsu (either location) is the place to go for professional Japanese and Korean food. Best sushi in town. Hands down. Out of the way, blink and you might miss it, but this family- run business hits all of the high notes. Been quite disappointed the past few times I have gone. Been to both locations but go to the one on Park street more often since it is closer to my home. Placing an order for take out is not easy. The last time I ordered, they messed up, again, and when I called them to let them know they told me to come back in. Great! Thought I would get there and they would fix everything for me, since they got THE ENTIRE order wrong. Asked for the California rolls to have NO crab (they, of course, added the crab), and only wanted ONE order of the spicy salmon rolls (They made two and charged me for two). I get there and they start arguing with me, saying I didn't order right. (?!?!?!) After I had to explain to them about 6 times what it is that I had originally ordered, they remade the avocado rolls for me and threw away half of the spicy tuna rolls and sent me on my way. When I tried to explain to them that they over charged me, since I only wanted one order of spicy tuna, they, of course, didn't understand. This is when they all start looking at one another, speaking to one another in Korean and tell me they fixed the order. They wouldn't give me back my money! I know its only $8 but the point is they charged me for something I did not want. I'm extremely disappointed in the way they handled the whole situation. Im very surprised they were so rude with me since I have gone there quite a few times and I was never rude, even though I wanted to loose it because I couldn't understand how they can run a business like this. Because of this experience I will no longer be eating/taking out from the park street location. If you are thinking about ordering sushi for pick up, I wouldn't call Matsu on Park Street, they need to have a better system for take out orders, and really work on their customer service. read more

Matsu Sushi is a wonderful, quaint restaurant with very friendly staff and delightfully fresh food. We are sushi lovers and Matsu Sushi on Park is our favourite place to go in Peterborough for sushi. Great place, wonderful staff and fresh, delicious food!! read more

We regularly go to Matsu - both locations, but Park Street is a bit closer and usually less crowded. Not cheap, but we find it good value for our money - we alway end up taking some home with us because we always over-order. We want to eat everything. read more
