They even have craft items like pottery, candles, knit work, and home decorations. They had pumpkins and corn stalks for fall decorating and were collecting carved pumpkins after Halloween to help feed their livestock. Their beef is delicious, and I've seen people rave about their chicken but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I love supporting local businesses and the owners here are always nice and helpful. I'm a big fan and it's my go-to for veggies before the big stores.

There is excellent signage on Farmington Avenue that leads you to a big lot behind the market. We saw a smallish number of eclectic vendors - a Jamaican food stand, a bakery, a few produce stands, a jewelry stand, an artwork stand, a Hartford Library on Wheels truck, and more. We made two purchases - a Nutella babka from Manchester's Wicked Good Bakes and a Jerk Barbecue Mushroom Patty Panada from Hartford's The Ital Juicery Company. I had an absolute blast at the Ital Juicery stand. They had three generations of charming and delightful women behind the counter. That Patty Panda (sort of a cross between an Empanada and a Jamaican Patty) was a good-sized portion, somewhat justifying the hefty $10 price tag, but the flavor was amazing. Smoky, savory, and spicy, I mean sneaky spicy. Not sure what kind of peppers were in there, but if you told me they were Jamaican Scotch Bonnets I would not be surprised. That afterburn lasted over half an hour. I'll definitely be on the lookout for The Ital Juicery Company when I make the rounds of upcoming Farmer's Markets. As for the West End Farmer's Market, they're open on Tuesdays between June and September from 4pm-7pm. The hours change slightly to 3pm-6pm in October. Friendly, knowledgeable and willing to share suggestions with the community. Kind and supportive. Every table I touched was so passionate about what they have grown, or made to offer. To future customers I would like to share don't ever judge a book by its cover. The road work did not stop me. So glad I found my way. From the freshest fruit of the season all the way to the Maple Syrup, Sour Dough. Micheal and his abundant happy herbs, jewelry and soap. The comfrey plants were such a joy to my eyes. If you have time, get your tush over to the market on Thurs afternoons. You'll find tents of live music, tons of local goodies (grass fed meats, cheeses, baked goods, etc), and representation from great organizations (even the Community Farm of Simsbury was there!) Such a nice late morning/early afternoon break!

Most of the folks who showed up when I did were looking for ears of corn with butter and sugar. The staff pick the corn for you and provide the butter and sugar. I'm not sure how much per ear as I didn't get corn. Be mindful of this if you prefer to pick your own corn. I spent $16+ change on blueberries, tomatoes, Pluots, peaches, and some squash. I found the items to be fresh and despite some blemishes, they were easy to clean and held up in my fridge for use during the week. I prefer a few other farmer's markets to this one but it did the job. They offer a variety of items for relatively reasonable prices for the amount of produce you get per pound.

I was super excited and impressed when I pulled up to Garden Farmers Market. Not only do they grow a lot of their products on site in green houses, it was all organic! They have a wide selection of fresh greens they grow on the property. There is also a small dairy, juice and meat section, as well as some packaged products and spices. They had almost everything I was looking for. Unfortunately like most small markets they tend to carry mostly in season produce. It is a great place to find fresh organic produce, would be wonderful for someone who juices or anyone who wants organic food. Since it is hard to buy all organic, I would definitely return to buy the certain fruits and vegetables I choose to buy organic. Best of all I got a jar of raw honey for $5.99and the staff was very nice and inviting to the customers! There were so many cars pulling in and out of the small parking lot, it resembled a demolition derby. Having just finished dinner, now I know why it was so busy. We picked up 2 ears of corn to have for dinner tonight, and let me tell you -they were terrific. Without exaggeration, some of the best corn I have ever tasted. Ten times better than the scrawny and tasteless ears I got from Rosedale Farms just a few days ago. The corn was quite large, and every perfect kernel was plump and bursting with flavor. I am now a big fan !
