The most dramatic, and least expected impact when DS#2 got his Irlen filters was that his…read moredebilitating anxiety quieted dramatically. He was "a different kid" from day one. Ten days after he started wearing his Irlen filters, I glanced over his shoulder when he was doing his homework and was shocked to see that his handwriting was markedly improved. Until that point, DS#2's handwriting hadn't changed much since he learned to write. We were constantly reminding him to use a capital at the beginning of a sentence, punctuation at the end, and to put spaces between the words. Now, suddenly, with no prompting, ALL those elements were in place, along with paragraph indents and better spelling than we'd ever seen. He reported that he could see those things when he read now, so of course he used them when he wrote. Within 6 months, DS#2's reading speed had tripled, and within a year it was ~6x what it had been with the overlays. He did forget his glasses every once in a while, and that's when his anxiety would spike. He told me one morning on the way to carpool that it would be better to miss the day of school than to go without his glasses. He's now a sophomore in high school, "bored" with how easy the high school classes are, focused on friends and artistic pursuits and a new passion with architecture. English is still his most challenging subject, mostly because of the reading involved, but so far, he's been able to manage it. Irlen lenses have really changed the trajectory for both our boys by helping to quell anxiety and sensory overwhelm and by increasing reading speed and fluency. It is truly remarkable that these benefits come so quickly -- some of them instantly -- instead of through untold hours of therapy and hard work. We are so grateful to have found this "missing link" that has helped them to flourish. I wish we had found it so many years sooner! One thing I've thought a lot about as this journey has unfolded is that we often spend a lot of time trying to impact the outputs for our children -- how they hold the pencil, handwriting, posture, spelling, manners, etc. Those outputs will never fall into place, no matter how much practice and patience are applied, if the inputs are being misread. If you do not see spaces between your words when you read, you will not put spaces between your words when you write. If the light makes you squint and turn away, then it's impossible to have a nice expression on your face when you greet someone. Given this, the first screenings for kids who are having trouble should be for things that impact how they take in and use information -- things like Irlen Syndrome. If Irlen is the issue, and you figure it out before you spend years on more difficult strategies, then what a huge savings of time, money, energy and suffering!

My Child was abused...Please read below!!!!…read more My son went to the Tutoring Club from April 9, 2012 thru August 15, 2012. While in the care of Susan Abbenante my son stated that Susan Abbenante would yell at him all the time, called him lazy and when he would ask for help she would tell him NO". He also told me that she hit him in the forehead and slapped him on the back . He said one time was during the Spring session and the other was during the Summer session. When I asked my son why he did not tell me when it happened he replied "I know how you are and I didn't want you to go to jail". My children know that they are my world and I would do anything to protect them. As soon as I heard what happened I told him he was not going back. I emailed Susan and told her what was said and she did not respond back for 4 days. I called the corporate office and left a message on August 20th and never received a call back. On Wednesday, August 22nd I called the police to place a report and at that time I called the corporate office back and spoke with Daniel Pinkney who really was no help. He said that they are a franchise and there was really nothing he could do. I went as far as the States Attorney's Office, but because my son didn't have any marks I was told it would be his word against hers. Susan Abbenante said my son was disruptive, rebellious and lazy. The problem with that is I never received one email, a phone call, or was I ever approached when I picked him up. My son used to cry and tell me he didn't want to go. I thought it was, because it was summertime and he wanted to play. I should have known something was wrong. In fact, one day when I was picking him up he was late coming out so I went inside to get him. She was yelling at him then. My son is a very respectful child and I have never had any problems with him in school. Please don't send your child here. I would hate for your child to be abused and hurt like my child was.

Family owned business Black Female Owned Business…read more What more can you love about candles? I know, candle making classes paired with karaoke, fun, and amazing hosts! This is exactly the experience you'll have at ReWax and UnWine. First, Justine and Caleb, thank you so much for making this experience, memorable. Justine was simply personable and had a personality that lit up the room and made every guests feel welcome as she took the time to remember all of our names. In a packed room, that's impressive but it made the experience feel exclusive! Caleb added to the fun by supporting with our candle mixtures and hosted karaoke, we had a blasts! Ambiance: think of a cute cozy candle shop, but add lively colors, greenery, cute pink seats, and hues of gold to set the mood-STUNNING! Value: the public classes are $60 per person and come with a standard size candle and small 7ml tin candle. For an additional fee, you can upgrade to the 22ml, which I did. Trust me, it's worth every penny. The scent selections are very unique and if you need more convincing, my special guy enjoyed the selections of woodsy and bourbon scents because he was able to personalize it to tailor his taste while I went with warm & sweet scents. Public classes hold up to 18 people and you can rent out the space for a private event for up to 34 people. In addition to candle making, it's BYOB (wine or champagne) no outside snacks allowed for public classes but you can inquire more about your private class experience through the website. While our candles cooled off, the mics were turned on and guests had a blast singing, dancing, and cheering each other one. This place promotes Black excellences and supports inclusivity. It's a places where everyone is welcome because the thing we all share in common is a love for candles and music-what isn't to love about that! I cannot wait to return. So glad that I found this place.

My friend and I went to the last class that they offer, 9pm, and we ended up being the only two there and got the one on one treatment. Justine was great! She was so nice and helpful. She explained each step of the process and allowed me to take my time picking my scents. There were 50 scents to choose from. Included in the class was one small candle and one medium candle but they allow you to upgrade and mix and match. I upgraded my medium candle to the large candle for only $10 more. They also offer colors and other add ins such as flowers and jewel pieces to make your candle really unique. There is a lot of room for creativity here. While you wait for your candle to finish, you can do karaoke or just chill out and have a nice time. It's also BYOB. They have different events depending on the day of the week, so you can choose the vibe you're looking for. I really enjoyed myself and would love to come back or maybe even host a friend's night. They have a more private room that you can book too.
