Since our kids go to an elementary school with a no homework policy, we also wanted to build the daily practice of doing homework in preparation for the transition when they will eventually have school homework (because I've heard from parents how much of a struggle that is). We started because our oldest had an affinity for learning and he really wanted to read. We knew that it was time to put him in Kumon, because I used to work with hundreds of students of all age ranges and what I would see is a lack of a strong foundation in their math and reading. We knew that Kumon's structured learning curriculum and individualized lesson planning would ensure that our kids would have a strong foundation with no holes. We were right. Our oldest learned all his sounds, built phonemic awareness, and was reading books by the time he turned five years old. Now he's in 2nd grade and working three years above his grade level in math. He has gained strong mental math ability through his daily practice with Kumon, and it amazes us how quickly he can work with large numbers and process multiple steps in his head. Our youngest is completely different from his sibling. It takes him a lot longer to learn a new concept. Thankfully the Kumon program is designed for kids like him too who need more repetition and the lesson plans are individualized to his learning ability. He continues to progress forward while making sure there are no gaps in his learning. Nikita has been a great partner in ensuring both of our kids are working at their own individualized pace. The Kumon program not only has helped our kids gain a strong foundation, but it has also taught them a growth mindset. With each new concept, our kids now know to expect it to be challenging and it will take longer to finish their work. However, with daily practice they see that the work gets easier, their times get faster, and that's when they know that they are in the process of mastering the new concept. We recommend Kumon to all of our friends whether it's for enrichment or for helping their kids catch up. I believe we just hit a year, which means my son started just after his 4th birthday to get a jump start on reading before he entered Kindergarten in Aug 2021. He IS reading above his level with the help of the wonderful tutors. After each class, they give me a status report on what he's working on, how he's progressing and what hiccups he might be having so I can work with him at home. One thing I really love is that the tutors have remained consistent over the last year (meaning, my son sees the same tutors week after week). He really looks forward to going each week, going through the easy-to-follow lessons, and earning reward points. Admittedly, my son did start young and the patience I saw in each of the tutors was admirable. Teachers are gold! Though we briefly stopped attending in March due to COVID, when the facility was able to open up again, the safety/sanitary standards they put place to be in compliance was impressive to say the least. I feel 100% safe and confident they will keep my boy safe. Kudos to Jason, Daisy, Tia, and the whole team at the Tutoring Club of Mission Viejo! I can't imagine not using them as my son grows! They both sincerely enjoy their time here and love the confidence the extra training has given them. As a parent, I am eternally grateful. My 8th daughter wants to enroll in the JSerra Medical Magnet program. Math is a critical component of these entrance exams and is very challenging. I learned very quickly how challenging high school math is with my older son. We worked with Roel to show him where she was and where she needed to be - specifically she needed tutoring in concepts she was not going to cover in her normal curriculum. I was skeptical at first - but Roel was completely confident. They placed her on a program and within in 4 months she was testing 20% higher. Her confidence was through the roof and she became a sponge to learn more. She just received her HSPT results and scored in the top 10% mathematically!! She is not in GATE or Honors currently - but with the help of RSM Mathnasium you would never know it. Her growth in math has been incredible. I also have a 5th grader here that loves it just the same. Her confidence is also sky high and her performance has improved tremendously. She enjoys the reward system and being able to track her progress. They feel at home here. As a parent I could not ask for more! I chose Mathnasium for their hours flexibility (yeah for Sunday hours!) and their ability to have a curriculum separate from the school norm - so the can learn at their pace and not be limited or rushed. During the first three months, she struggled to keep up, but when I shared my concerns with Mathnasium, they quickly identified the areas she needed help with and provided the right support. Thanks to their personalized approach, my daughter's confidence grew tremendously. Since then, she's been getting straight A's in math, scoring nearly 100% on most of her tests, and continues to stay in the advances class in 8th grade. She's also ranked among the top group of students in California on the state math tests. The teachers and staff here are absolutely amazing--kind, patient, and always attentive to each student's needs. They genuinely care about helping every child succeed and adjust their teaching to match each student's learning stage. After using part of the program, we experienced concerns regarding the instructional quality and teaching experience. We even requested a teacher change during the program due to teaching style concerns. Unfortunately, the issues persisted and the program became a source of frustration and stress for our child. We decided to discontinue the program with 44 hours still unused. What surprised us most was that despite having approximately $2,468 worth of unused hours remaining, the center refused any refund and relied entirely on a non-refundable policy. The only options offered were to keep the package on hold indefinitely or continue using services that were no longer working for our child. My advice to other parents: do not prepay for a large package unless you are completely certain the program, teachers, and teaching style are the right fit for your child. Teaching quality and student experience are important factors that cannot be fully evaluated in advance, and if problems arise later, you may have no practical way to recover the unused balance. I am sharing this experience so other families can make an informed decision before committing thousands of dollars upfront.
