Thirty-five years ago, Larry Martinek was inspired to find a better way to teach children math. As a teacher-trainer and consultant in public and top private schools, and father to a mathematically gifted son, Larry possessed an incredibly comprehensive view of education. In his work with both stellar and struggling math programs, he clearly identified a common theme in mathematics instruction: a "serious disconnect between students' basic skills training and the curriculum they are expected to master in the years to come." Over the next three decades, Larry painstakingly developed and assembled a blend of methods and materials that proved highly effective for students of all ages. Meet the Business Owner: Becky M.

Becky earned her Bachelor's Degree with honors from Kappa Delta Pi in Elementary Education at the University of Tampa, in 1997. She has since taught elementary school for 12 years, and spent a year as Math Coach at 8 different elementary and middle schools with students ranging from K-Geometry. Becky struggled with math as a young girl, but in High School found a teacher that helped her understand math in a way that she was able to grasp. After becoming a teacher and finding ways to teach her own students in a way that made sense to them, ignited a passion within her for mathematics. Helping students become more confident and successful allows students to understand that math is not about learning to be ready for the next math class - it's about learning to think. Mathnasium is a great vehicle to build confidence in kids. Developing strong 'numbers sense' is a foundational piece that will help them succeed in math. Becky is excited to bring Mathnasium to the children of Brandon!
