But honestly, I just want to share this place with the world because it's truly something special. Plenty of places have a "Santa" visit for the holidays... but Bellewood? They get THE real Santa Claus. The real deal. And would the real Santa charge? Nope! Free visits and free photo Saturdays and Sundays in December from noon to 4pm. And that's only the beginning. Bellewood is buzzing this time of year: Tons of apples (and they ship to out-of-state family and friends!) New spirits coming out of their distillery Unique gifts, ornaments, and goodies for everyone (lots of local vendors stuff here!) A cozy spot to settle in with a coffee and escape the chaos of the season As for me? I come for the weekend meals breakfast and lunch are always amazing. We also grab our favorite cottage pie for easy dinners when we don't feel like cooking. And don't even get me started on their frozen meatballs... lifesavers on busy weeknights and absolutely delicious. One of my favorite times to visit is early in the season or during the off-season. It's peaceful, the coffee is hot (free refills) and the view of Mt. Baker (or even the clouds) is beautiful. And the service? Simply the BEST around. Truly. Bellewood isn't just a place it's an experience, and one I'm grateful to have right here in our community.

We made our lunch orders and waited 45 minutes for sandwiches. Okay. Our drinks and bakery item weren't served. Finally got a glass of cider. No bakery item after we were all finished with the meal. After waiting in line again to inquire about the missing item I was told gruffly "I'm busy, I'll get to it". Next, tried shopping gift shop and asked when the distillery would be open. "wait, when the rush is over". It never opened. We had items we wanted to pay for but no one ever came to the register. Not a great visit. Looks like it could be great for families, if it was staffed better.

There are blueberry bushes as far as the eye can see, and you need your own container, but if you love that summer feeling of picking your own fruit, this is the place. The payment is $1.50 per pound or a dollar per pound if you get 10 lb or more. It's all on the honor system, which was really nice and refreshing to see that there's still some trust in our community. The owner came around a few times talking, laughing, and joking with us and our fellow pickers. he encouraged us to eat as many as we possibly could off the bushes so we didn't put a dent in our haul. He also provides bottled water underneath a tent when it gets too toasty out. The only thing I would caution is that it can be easy to pick an abundance of blueberries without noticing. my friend and I were there for just over an hour, and when I weighed my bag I was shocked to find out that I had done 14 lbs. My only issue now is to figure out what to do with them all! I highly recommend going as an essential part of a summer in Bellingham.

But, considering not many things in life are perfect, these strawberries would be a candidate. Without exception, regardless whether I buy a box or a flat, every berry is perfect. Big, juicy and with flavor in abundance. Never a bad berry in the mix. Actually quite unbelievable, but absolutely appreciated and totally enjoyed. We handed the older female employee a $20 and a $10... she was holding on to the money as if she didn't have change. As I was waiting for my change she asked if we wanted candy canes instead (!?!?) we both said "no" awkwardly. Moments later, we found and handed her a $5... she took it and did not hand over the original $10, I said "oh we're just giving you exact change now" .. she then asked two more times if we wanted a candy cane.... We both said "no" and she said "okay" and walked off with our money...!?! I don't know about the average person, but this was awkward and not worth arguing with a potentially unstable person over $10. Very strange interaction that I would avoid. Wouldn't recommend.

I was blown away by the beautiful trees which were priced so reasonably! And since you actually cut it down yourself you get a good look at it and It is VERY fresh! Should last through Christmas, even getting it so early in the season, with adequate watering. I didn't go into the shop as my son did that, but he said they were very nice and it didn't take him long to do the transaction. He did not, however, get one for himself because he wanted a larger tree than could be found on this acreage. Mine was perfect for me at about 6 feet tall. There were not a lot much taller than that. But my tree looks amazing, I am so pleased!
