Such a variety in one place. Wonderful options no matter what you are craving - even dessert! Beer, Italian tacos, Hungarian, chocolate, artisanal meats...ok now I sound just like the website basically. To be brief and to the point: go here, it's a yes.

This is the food court you wish you had in your neighborhood. A full bar downstairs and meeting rooms upstairs. High end food products to buy to take home and cook. Everything from Macrons, ice cream, pizza, dim sum, moose burgers, Hungarian fry breads, sushi, and you name it. There are several good restaurants around it as well. Super family and kid friendly. Some places have their own tables and there is a center area where the whole gang can find their feast and meet in the middle. Most of the food places close around 8 PM so maybe not a late night spot all though there a several places serving adult beverages after 8 PM. Most of the food court places do not serve alcohol so grab your pain killers from one place and food from another. If you are in Oslo, carve out a lunch or dinner time slot and figure out how to eat here and try a little something from several places. Most definitely eat here and have fun!!!!

MATHALLEN OSLO directly translate to "Food Hall" and this amazing food hall is found in the Akerselva district of Oslo. The selection of food establishments is varied and impressive. Great place to go if you're a group. There is Korean comfort/street food, Sushi, coffee, Norwegian, etc. BTW, the coffee vendor is SOLBERG & HANSEN, one of the city's best coffees. The location is fantastic - by the Akerselva River. The space is beautiful. Bathrooms are free. Wish I had the chance to visit more than once.

This is a pretty neat food hall that we enjoyed checking out while visiting Oslo. We ended up eating at Bistro Budapest. Definitely worth checking out.

My wife, daughter and I enjoyed dinner here on our first night in Oslo. From our hotel near the central train station, we rode the number 12 tram a couple stops to Schous Plass followed by a seven minute walk. We arrived around 5pm to find the place quite busy on a Saturday evening. There is a central dining area here surrounded by a variety of establishments selling food and beverages. We saw a pizzeria, several hamburger joints, a Hungarian restaurant, a taqueria, a fish/seafood place, charcuterie, Indian food and more. There are also several bars offering beer, wine and spirits. Some require you to consume your beverages in their little area and others allow you to go to the common dining area. Some allow you to bring food in and others don't. It can be a little confusing but just ask. English is widely spoken here and signage/menus also had English translations. My daughter had one of her favorites butter chicken. It came with rice and veggies. She enjoyed it but thought it lacked the usual kick. My wife had fish and chips which was also enjoyable. I went to the Hungarian place and got Langos Trio. This is three small fried flat breads with different toppings. One was cheese, another shredded pork (maybe?) and the last beef. They looked as good as they tasted and it was the perfect size for me. My wife and I enjoyed beers with our meals. I had a fresh tasting IPA and she a Pilsner. Both hit the spot but were on the pricey side. Seating was tight but we met a nice Norwegian couple who shared their table with us. Meeting others can be part of the fun dining here. We enjoyed it in that regard.

This is a trendy food hall in Oslo with a range of gourmet shops and restaurants and bars. It's a hip place to hangout. Lots of food and drinks options. I stopped in at Helt for a moose burger (they unfortunately lost my ticket and the whole thing took an hour...in the US you would have received a refund or a feee drink ... all they said was sorry). But the food was good and loved the atmosphere too.

Fun foods to choose from. I love vulkanfisk and the Budapest joint. Lots of drinks, entrees, appetizers and desserts. Good seating.

Fun market outside of the main downtown area of Oslo. A mix of tourists and locals. Clean modern remodeled interior. Staff varies depending on the stall. Would have loved to try more things inside. But great for light bites or a big meal. Must visit when in town.

Everything is so good here that money'll just fly out of your pocket! It also doesn't help that it's a very welcoming and warm atmosphere that just makes you want to chill with your friends and try everything this place has to offer. Be sure to try the fish soup from that corner restaurant, a cupcake from the bakery, a tasty beer, and whatever else looks good to you. This may be one of the best food halls ever.

This place has an outstanding array of food stands. Everything I ate tasted like it was straight from the farm/ocean. Particular standouts were the tapas bar and the sushi. This place is contemporary Oslo. It's super clean, well appointed, and yet maintains a Norwegian simplicity of design. This food hall was one of my favorite places that I visited in Oslo. I suggest you stop in if you're in Oslo for a day or longer.

We came here on a recommendation from the hotel and we're not disappointed. It is made up of different food selections with simple seating. We had deer stew and the tipsy moose burger at Helt Vilt. Both were very good!

The chicken is breed the old fashion way- Breath of fresh air, fresh oat, wheat and corn and this combination makes the meat so juicy and tender. The burger itself is boneless (they remove bones), coleslaw, bbq sauce and a good dressing on top of a amazingly good bun. The bun actually makes the whole difference. It's so moist and tasty when you let the burger sit for a minute(if you got the patience to wait), it just suck up all of the good dressing and bbq sauce and that combined with the juicy chicken just makes it even better. I tend to go for the burger whenever I'm down at the local football pub watching a game and I combine this meal with a Brooklyn Lager. Good taste combined. The service is also great. No mocking around. Quick and done. Since they started up their local shoppe at Mathallen, the price has risen from a comfortable 60NOK to 90NOK. I personally think that's a little steep but I can't resist it. It's worth it. They also got a good chicken sandwich, but I've never eaten it. (Never change a winning team) but I've heard it's also very good. It's not only burgers and sandwiches at Stangeriet, they also sell wings, thighs and whole chickens. It's definitely worth a try and a chicken for sunday supper is a winner.

A great health store! This place is well worth a visit if you are interested in organic, vegetarian…read moreor vegan food. Fresh vegetables, tea, juice and baked goods can also be found here, and when you add everything else you find in common health store you all of a sudden got yourself a new favorite place. Røtter offers products from Pukka, Teapigs and Helios just to mention some. A personal favorite is Epleslang, a local apple juice. It comes in a beautiful packaging and the taste is great.

I've never reviewed Røtter?!?!?! Thanks Yelp for filling me in on this…read more I am at Røtter at least 2-3 times a week. Sometimes more. Never less. This IS my shop in Oslo. I'm not a huge fan of the Life stores or Helios, and part of the reason is the Røtter has EVERYTHING I need, and more. Upon moving to Norway, I had to drastically change my diet (I lived in Bergen). I couldn't find ANYTHING. And I had no job, so I couldn't have afforded it if the availability was there. Then I moved to Oslo. Oslo is still very behind in terms of food offerings, but it is lightyears ahead of Bergen. And fortunately for me, Røtter was here. Røtter takes requests and is always up on the latest products and trying their best to get them in the shop. Being American, they are constantly asking me for products I miss from the States (a lot of their customers are American) and looking for feedback. And they always give me updates on what they are getting in if they are grabbing ideas from the US. This makes me know that they care about the business and their customers. The shop itself is super inviting and cozy. I could spend hours perusing the place. The staff knows what they are talking about and has a passion for the products they sell. They are constantly receiving new products in, which keeps me going back (even though I spent thousands of $$ on stuff recently in the US and hauled it back with me). There is not much else I can say about this place except for the fact that it is incredible and will surely remain one of my Oslo highlights for a LONG, LONG time.

The…read morefruit and vegetables section is like nothing else in Oslo, and the prices are often half of what you would pay at Meny. Sure, it's probably not organic, but my experience from organic farming tells me that these vegetables look and smells like nutritious plants should - in contrast to their watery supermarket cousins whom you find at the bigger chains. This is because the owners of this and other import stores doesn't buy their supply from the big corporate mega farms like the regular supermarkets do, but from smaller import companies. They go daily to the warehouses to find the highest quality vegetables to the best prices. This also means that prices and assortment varies with the seasons - something I highly appreciate. If you learn the "vegetable and fruit year" and keep your eyes open, you can make real bargains and lower your food budget further. Here you can also find a lot of other natural products that you would pay the double or more for in health food stores or regular supermarkets: additive free coconut milk, organic virgin coconut oil, olives, goat cheese, nut oils and even an assortment of herbal fluoride-free toothpastes - just to mention a few. I love this store so much that I often bring a big trolley all the way from Nesodden, to be filled with yumminess. And while I'm at it, popping into the butcher across the street to buy some lamb meat. Just be aware that afternoons - especially on Fridays and Saturdays - can be very busy.
