The pickens in Byron for food is slim at best. When the calzone at Matador's was recommended to me, my expectations were thin. Only game in town. So I have placed my first official order after hearing the hope. I ordered around 6pm with estimated 30-35 minute wait. The Matador and wings. Arrived to hear that my order was ready. They have my wings away. So ok it's just pizza. Asked to just refund the wings so I could get my pizza and go. Kind of getting hangry. It is now 7pm. I asked where my pizza is. They are still making me wings. Ok but I am starving. Lol. Can't be mad. Great customer service and they are working so hard. Giving 3 stars until I get my food. Pizza has been sitting for 30 minutes. So foods out. Pizza is fabulous. They threw some extra wings on and continuously apologized. They work so hard, great service recovery and hard working crew. The pizza is good but they frequently mess up And miss orders. It happened once and I was like ok no biggie now it's twice. How do you take a order and just not make it? It's a shame because we would order from here weekly but it seems they don t want more business. I don't get it. We will look elsewhere for pizza. read more

In town for a visit and was looking for pizza for dinner. Only a couple of places around to pick from, so decided to get Matador's a try. They are only doing take out, which was what we were looking for, and you pick up your order outside. Our pepperoni pizza was ready when they said it would be and we really enjoyed the taste of our pizza. Crust is on the soft side but everything tasted fresh. Best pizza around. But if you get told 30 mins it'll take 45-50. If you get told 45 mins it'll Be well over an hour. Nothing worse then sitting in lobby or your car for 20+ minutes waiting. Great employees and owners. Great good. Just need to have better time management for customers. read more

Decent pizza and bread for the price. I'm a sucker for small town food, and came across this place on an earlier road trip, but they hadn't opened for the day yet. Made a point to swing in there for the dinner hour at a later date. No indoor seating, but they have a bench style table to the side of the building that we were able to use. Ingredients were fresh, and you can watch them prepare your food from the counter. They are generous with the pizza cheese and toppings. They have a fridge of Faygo pop and glass bottles lemonade and teas to pick from for drinks. Only complaint is the pizza was missing one of the toppings we ordered, but the girl at the counter was new, and it wasn't a big deal. Would stop by again if I was in the area. read more

I consider myself to be a pizza connoisseur. Pizza is either really good or really terrible and there are very few that are just OK. Matador's was by far one of the best pizzas I have ever had, and I am not exaggerating at all. You can truly taste their fresh, high quality ingredients and the love that goes into every pizza pie. My first experience with Matador's was in December shortly after their grand opening. They were busy, which was good to see with a new business. My fiance and I ordered the Vacation pizza and a side of Cajun breadsticks. This pairing (for me) was phenomenal! I am still raving about this first experience 3 months later and can't wait to go back when I'm home. I relocated to Chicagoland and after sampling the many styles of pizzas here, let me just say that Chicago has some fierce competition! They also offer calzones, salads, breadsticks, cheesesticks, and Faygo soda. The passion that the owners exude to please every customer is admirable and quite rare in most restaurants. Meeting friends a couple of days after Christmas for some football watching at their home in the country. We volunteered to pickup pizza on the way out and they suggested Matador's in Byron. As we pulled into Byron, a small nice country town, I was skeptical about the quality of pizza expecting a gas station side business. Was i wrong, my stereotypes aside, it was great. Our hosts order several pies ahead and they we ready when we got there. the next 10 minutes in the car tested my will power, they smelled great. A slice each of a pepperoni pie and a El Matador supreme pie .... fresh ingredients, good sauce and perfect puffy crust. I was sold If they were down the street from our house it would be my go to pizza place. read more

We live in Argentine Township, and were in the habit of heading into Linden for pizza. Then one night we had to go through Byron, and decided to grab a pizza while we were there. We haven't bought pizza from anywhere else since. This is really good New York style pizza. The kids love the different flavors of Faygo, too. read more
