I have always been an active individual but was sort of lost in the gym when it came to what I should do and I would end up working out every part of my body every single day never targeting specific areas. Well with the help and instruction of Arielle and her coaches I am able to take that whole process away and just work out. No more spending time walking around trying to figure out what I should do, and maaaan let me tell you, I am sore after one of these workouts! But I feel so accomplished and renewed after completing one! If you're looking for a gym this one is it!

So I went in for the one week trial as a sceptic to the CrossFit training. The coaches are friendly and so are the other people working out. They all want to see everybody succeed and are willing to help a newbie such as myself to have proper form while lifting or whatever exercise we are doing. With all that being said. Six months later I love it. If you want a smaller CrossFit tight knit atmosphere and have fun while doin it. This is the place to go. At least give it a shot and I'm sure you'll stick around

What is CrossFit:…read more Constantly varied: different movements per session and within each session High-intensity: Your max effort Functional movements - Moves you do in everyday life - Squat, pull, jump, sit-up Designed for universal scalability (adapted for all levels and abilities) The workouts are an hour - that includes warm-up, Workout of the Day, and mobility (stretching) The schedule is plenty for anyone to find a slot that works for their schedule and class options are pretty cool. Try the paddle board class or one-on-one with the Coach. Clocktower-CrossFit is the newest BOX to open in Chelsea - located behind the old Teddy Bear factory; led by head coach Steve Koski, former coach at HyperFit. The owners' group of Clocktower came together to create a new CrossFit community in greater Chelsea area. Box just opened June 1st and they have all been very welcoming and encouraging, even though I am no where near their level of fitness. The facility is outstanding. A lot of space, open air and nicely appointed. A strip of turf runs along the back of the Box for warm-ups, mobility work (stretching out) and field-athlete training. There is plenty of equipment for when the classes get larger. TRX bands for adapted pullups, pushups, etc. Great bathrooms with shower and plenty of space for all of it. The owners have so much experience in the practice of CrossFit; I appreciate their attention to details - like the overhead fans to keep the air moving, the water bottle fill station and the hair ties in the bathroom for when mine breaks. It's the little things sometimes. Coach Koski also has a degree in nutrition. I am very optimistic of my ability to implement the life-style changes to my eating habits, under his instruction. I am not a complete novice when it comes to a balanced diet, however, I don't have the expertise and am happy to have found a Box and Coach that can help guide me. Clocktower-CrossFit is the ultimate CrossFit community Box. I cannot praise it enough. Contact them for a free class, get a 10-visit punch card to try it out for a few weeks, join the beginner CHIME class at a smaller membership fee, or do the all inclusive. There are so many options.

So, what can be said about a gym, a Crossfit gym, that has not yet been written 100s of times…read morealready? Well, from a first time crossfit participant, well, CHIME participant, I can say that this place rocks. I have done other, 'similar' classes, even taught a few, but this place is defined by more than their equipment and facility- it is defined by its people and its atmosphere. From day one, yes, you will see that the gym itself is immaculate, but it is the welcoming people that make up Clocktower Crossfit that make the difference. The head coach, Steve Koski, has a deep knowledge, both practical and academic, that allows him the expertise of coaching in proper movement to avoid injury- very important. And while I could go on about the rest of the coaches- Bea, Chris, Steve; it is easier to read about them here: http://www.clocktower-crossfit.com/about Everyone is made to feel welcome and everyone is encouraged to push to their ability- a little beyond. I have met some great people here and look forward to making my own improvements. I would completely recommend Clocktower Crossfit to anyone- the newbie and the experienced.

After I decided to take a break from CrossFit, I needed a workout replacement. I decided to check…read moreout Trufit because it was just opening their Detroit location, which happens to be about 1/4 mile away from my office. It certainly doesn't get much more convenient than that. There are several different classes to choose from. TruX has a lot of the same moves and aspects of CrossFit but without the Olympic lifting. Trustrength has less cardio, and is (obviously) more focused on strength. SWEAT is predominantly cardio. And Glow Boxing is precisely what it sounds like - a cardio boxing class under party lights. There is even yogabon Saturday morning. The folks are nice the coaches generally good. You can register and schedule classes with the mind body app, which is hella convenient. It even syncs with my calendar. My main beef is that, only being open a few months, the schedule changes, generally without notice. I have scheduled classes at specific times, only to look at my calendar a few days later and discover that the time on the class was changed to a time I never signed up for. Easily fixable, but annoying. Hopefully random scheduling changes will happen less and less often as the Detroit location becomes more established.

Q: How can you tell when you meet a CrossFitter? A:…read moreIMMEDIATELY they tell you so. So I'm not sure if that's true, but I will admit that if you do CrossFit, you're always thinking about CrossFit because some muscle group(s) is/are always sore. And if you're thinking about it, you're probably talking about it... CrossFit Toledo is an excellent training facility with excellent instructors. This place is big and clean and equipped with everything you need to learn the craft safely and effectively. Not only can you learn CrossFit here, you can learn to excel at it. If you're motivated, and you listen to the coaches, you can get a kickass workout in this place no matter your CrossFit experience level or fitness level. Warning: Even if you think you're in shape, CrossFit Toledo will expose your weaknesses. Be prepared to deal with this. Again, listen to your coaches, work hard, and you WILL get better. If you're a newbie, you don't have to worry about biting off more than you can chew. Check your ego at the door, learn how to "scale" (that is, learn how to cheat a little while learning the movements and still get an appropriate workout). Also, every new member goes through a couple of "skills" classes where you get, essentially, one-on-one instructions regarding the basic lifts and movements. Workouts; There are 5 classes per day (0600, 1200, 1600, 1700, and 1815), and class size is limited to 12 people. Every class is different. I repeat, every class is different. But, each class is similar in that they all consist of a warmup, a strength phase, and a conditioning phase. There's also a "homebody" option. Even if you have equipment at home, half the benefit of this place is the coaching and the camaraderie. ALSO, there are multiple open-gym sessions through the week. Camaraderie: It's definitely there; this seems like a great group of people. One guy acknowledges that some people call it "CultFit." But hey, can you name ANY fitness pursuit isn't "culty?" Bodybuilding? Culty for the past 80 years. Running? Not as culty as it was, but still very culty. Yoga? Yep, laid back and totally culty. Don't worry about it. You can do CrossFit and still be friends with a person who doesn't...but only one. 5 stars!
