So much fun! Joe was amazing and helped us out so much! Definitely recommend going with friends and family!

Mastermind Escape Games is so much fun! We went for the first time almost a year ago for my birthday and we went back around the holidays because my parents were visiting and they have never done an escape room before. The first time we went, we did the room called "outbreak" where we had to find a cure for a medical disease. That one has about a 30% passing rate and we completed it without any help or hints and had 15 minutes left. This time we did the "bank heist" room which has about a 20% passing rate. It was definitely a lot more challenging. The person watching us gave us a bit more help than we had hoped for. We like a good challenge. The first time we went the person didn't give us any clues at all. We used all of our clues and completed it with 4 minutes left. We have had such a blast completing these escape rooms that we already can't wait until the next time!

I had been to an escape room before, but my family had not. It was a great time for beginners and experienced players all around. Just be sure to listen to the directions and have your thinking caps screwed on tight, because the puzzles will seriously keep you going the entire hour :) If you're looking for a stimulating experience with a fun theme be sure to check it out!

This was my first time doing an escape room, and I had alot of fun! We chose the easiest room, called "lost in time". You get an iPad and a little notepad to take with you into the room, the iPad has clues on it that you can use your points to pay for the clues! You have 60 minutes to get out of the room, but if you think that is plenty of time you're wrong! We had a group of 5 people and we did not get out within the time frame. You have to think fast and make a team effort to get to the next step, because some of them require more than one person. Overall the room we were on was pretty decent, it's set up like an western old saloon. The employee was very informative and when we didn't make it out, he came in and showed us the remaining steps it took to get out. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars, is because some of the props inside the room seemed kind of torn up, or like they may need to be made a little better. Some of the things on the wall looked like maybe another customer had tried getting into them or something, when they shouldn't have been yanked on/open, etc. Other than that though it was a great time and I'm excited to try a different room another time!

This place is a hidden gem in Overland Park. The building is deceiving, as it shares rent with a gold buyer, and the doors to both places are shared. Once you enter you go through the Mastermind door and head downstairs into the spacious basement! You'll walk out into the lobby where you will be pleasantly greeted for your adventure. We opted to do Lost in Time and had a large enough group (9) that we purchased the private event. It was a lot of fun, and I won't spoil any surprises but they have some options to make it easier - like QR codes you can scan to get hints and a helpful "liaison" watching you from cameras in the room who will offer guidance as necessary should your group get severely stuck. Unfortunately a key element in our puzzle was inadvertently misplaced which caused a huge challenge for us to finish solving the clues. Many of them are dependent on you solving other mysteries, so in this case we couldn't actually escape the room (we solved half of the challenge). They were very apologetic about the situation and made up for it which all of us greatly appreciated. We still had a lot of fun and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who likes puzzles. We had younger kids in the group - 11 and 12. I wouldn't go too young if you want any help out of them, being able to read is a big plus!

Really fun but not quite as good as other escape rooms I've been to. Good deal on Groupon so it was worth it.

Turns out, a team of four is the perfect size. They have about 40 different game rooms, and we managed to get through at least 25 in two hours. Fair warning: you may or may not be sore the next day! Each room features a mix of physical, mental, and skill-based challenges. Half the fun and sometimes the stress is figuring out what you're supposed to do once you step inside. I didn't know much about Brkthrough beforehand and showed up wearing boots, definitely a mistake. Good grip athletic shoes are best since some challenges involve climbing and running. There's a reason they have you sign a waiver before you start! You're competing against other teams at the same time for the highest score, which adds to the excitement. Overall, it was fun and occasionally challenging. Some rooms were a bit boring, while others literally gave you a headache. The key is to relax and not overthink it, unless your friends and family are super competitive! I was a able to reserve the tickets online one day prior, and it's a great spot for team building, birthdays, or any kind of celebration.

They kept the energy high the entire time, explained everything clearly, and made sure everyone felt comfortable jumping in. A somewhat underground phenomenon "escape rooms" are gaining traction as a family friendly and…read morebonding experience unlike any other. The basic premise is you and a group enter into a room or series of rooms with little direction and you must find clues to solve puzzles in order to finish the adventure. The complexity and difficulty are explained to the participants before purchase allowing the experience to be customized based on comfort level. Now that we've established a groundwork of what an escape room is, I'll describe my experience. I flew in to Kansas City to see my 17 graduate and spend time with her and my 14 yr old. It's somewhat of a tradition of ours to do an escape room. My daughter did some searches and based on rating decided to give "The Exit Room" a shot. I'm not sure how prices stack up for other facilities and I thought they were a lot higher than others however it was worth it. The Exit Room's location is fairly easy to find, parking is plentiful and the location in a safe area. Walking in is pretty neat with several areas great for photo ops. The guide (sorry if that's not what the person is called) was pleasant greeting us and gave us a run down of all the things we needed to know. He guided us to our destination, wished us luck and shut the door. I don't want to give to much away but, in the room, there's a monitor in case you're in need of hints. You hold up a sign for help and the "guide" will assist via intercom. We did need one hint and I rather liked the ambiguity b/c it wasn't to the point of "press that button" rather, "look closely at the puzzle and notice the direction." The carefully crafted responses were given to not ruin the experience. The puzzles themselves varied in nature. A physical slide puzzle here, a series of puzzles with colors there and several puzzles that had clues fit into a larger puzzle. Basically, the rooms are meant to challenge both sides of the brain but patience is a virtue. After successfully completing a puzzle an audio/visual cue is given thus a small shot of dopamine hits the brain simulating reward. While not only indicating the current puzzle is complete, it reinvigorates hope and focuses your attention on the next obstacle. I can't recall exactly but I believe my 60-minute adventure had a total of 15 or so puzzles. The only small issue I had was with the final puzzle but I'm not going to divulge my irritation with the implementation of said puzzle. Overall, my girls and I enjoyed the experience. While I'm a very deep thinking my greatest experience came from letting my kids take ownership and watching my oldest child take over, demonstrating leadership, organization and analytical thinking. This is an interaction occasion not a sitting on the sofa type of atmosphere. The Exit Room provides the perfect adventure for those willing to challenge themselves and try something different. I highly encourage everyone to take my "hint" and give it a shot.
