My experience with this company has been incredibly frustrating. In short, I do not recommend them and would not use them again. Details: Our house did not have a/c and our upper level was getting pretty toasty during the summer. After getting six quotes, we went with Master Mechanical. Our furnace covering the upstairs was over 30 years old so we decided to replace that at the same time. MM recommended a heat pump and furnace combo to address all our heating/cooling needs. Since install, we've needed MM to come out multiple times for various different issues that all amount to them cutting corners and doing a very sloppy install job. Ironically, when getting quotes, two of the more expensive companies warned us that a lot of contractors are cheaper, but cut corners during install, causing problems down the road. At the time I chalked that up to sales tactics, but now I wish I'd taken their advice more seriously. The problems started right off the bat. They couldn't get the a/c system to work after install. Supposedly it was a thermostat issue -- the old wiring for the thermostat wasn't compatible (whatever that means), and instead of just running new wire they went for the wireless thermostat option. They eventually got it working, but the wireless thermostat they installed wasn't a smart thermostat, which was in our contract. They came back and left some additional piece that could be connected to the thermostat to make it a "smart" thermostat. And I mean left it -- some assembly required by us that was not as simple as plug and play. Fall comes and we discovered our furnace for the lower level wasn't working. They didn't replace this one -- it's an older one, but it was in the same closet as the new one, so I figured something must have been unplugged or wiring messed with on this one while installing the new system for the upstairs. They come out and tell me some door shutoff piece was broken, not their fault. I can't prove it had anything to do with them, but this furnace was working beautifully with no issues the previous winter and I definitely didn't mess with the door so seems pretty clear to me what happened. But I sucked it up and paid that bill. Not long after, the new heat pump for the upstairs started having issues. It was working well for heating during the fall, but then temps dropped to a point where the heat pump should have shut off and the furnace would over, but it didn't. The heat pump just ran constantly trying to heat the house but unable to raise the temp anytime the outside temp was below 40. I called MM and they came out a week later and figured out they hadn't hooked up the wiring correctly so the furnace wasn't able to kick on. (I had asked after the install if they tested the systems and was told yes, but obviously they didn't test the heat). They "fix" the wiring and tell me it's good to go but I have to put the system on "auxiliary heat" (emergency heat) for the furnace to work. I ask, "so the heat pump won't work at warmer temperatures and then automatically kick over to the furnace once the temp drops enough?" They had no idea. Their solution was for me to manually change the heat source between normal and emergency heat for the two systems and they would come out again to add some outdoor sensor to see if they could make the transfer work on its own. How do you recommend and install a system and not know how it works??? Absolutely baffling. They topped it off by sending us a repair bill for the wiring issue, despite it being under the labor warranty and their mistake. I now have no faith this system will last and have considered hiring another contractor to come inspect it and make sure there's nothing else glaring. Do yourself a favor and go with someone else. read more

I requested an appointment for routine maintenance tomorrow morning, but they worked me in same day. They did a very thorough inspection and cleaned the coils for the $135 service call. (Previous comanies just offered a visual inspection for $99). They were very honest about what I needed, offered good prices and a 10% teacher discount. Master Mechanical was OUTSTANDING. From my first call to finishing the job, I would recommend them above anyone else in the Flagstaff area. Our heater was not working after a storm in our home we have for my daughter who is in grad school at NAU. Master Mechanical was able to get someone to the house in less than an hour and fix the problem. The Tech - Roscoe Shubpla - was AMAZING and even spent the time teaching my daughter how to reset and fix the heater on her own in the future. They went above and beyond for us and I was grateful as I was doing all of this from California. They texted us time, a tracking map of where the tech was, and all the info I needed for the business. My heater stopped working the evening of May 5th. At 8:05 a.m. on May 6th I called Master Mechanical. I was more than willing to pay the time and a half fee for a weekend call. The technician and I spoke about the issue and he said that he would call me right back. I never received that call back. I waited all day, giving up my Saturday, just in case. Everyone has a phone in their pocket. To not call back at all!! tells me their employees do not take pride in their work. I need a new heater but someone else will be making that money! read more

Roscoe and Danny are awesome. Roscoe came out to help fix my heater during a crazy snowstorm and taught me how to reset and fix it myself. The same situation happened again, and Danny patiently tried to explain to me how to fix it. He proceeded to take time out of his Sunday to drive out to help me, but my heater somehow turned back on after he made the drive and I am so so grateful. read more

Horrible customer service and shady billing practices! The tech lied on the invoice by writing incorrect times in order to charge us extra. When we questioned him about it, he said it was for the "drive time". Ridiculous! The owner refused to correct the discrepancy. And our new A/C unit broke 1 year in! Master Mechanical is simply awesome!! It was already -4 degrees and we had no heat in our home! I was very concerned, especially since we have our elderly mom with us. Heating professional Sam came called me back within minutes and came to our rescue! While he was unable to come to my residence right at that time, he graciously walked me through a temporary fix so that my heat could be restored immediately! He was patient, understanding and saved me almost $200! He's going to come in the morning to replace the part so this doesn't happen again. I should mention that a few weeks ago, the same thing happened and I had Pitzer's One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating of Prescott come for the same issue. I only went with them due to their "One Hour" tag line but after being there for a very short time and being charged $189, technician Marshall claimed it was fixed and that it was due to a dirty filter. He admitted to me that his portable vacuum to clean the filter wasn't fully charged to do a proper cleaning so the filter wasn't even replaced, he just partially cleaned it! Pitzer One Hour told me they would have to charge another $89 fee in addition to any repair costs that are made if they have to come out again. I know I made the right call this time in canceling Pitzer One Hour and I'm going to have Adam come back tomorrow to do a proper repair. The worst time of year to discover your hydronic heating system is malfunctioning is, of course, winter. It's made even worse when it's happening during the lull time from Christmas Eve through the New Year. We knew our system as in trouble and it was diagnosed as such in late December. Some work done on it managed to keep it limping along for a few more days, but toward the end of the month we knew we were in trouble. The on-call tech who came around for a second visit declared it DOA (cracked exchanger = no way to actually heat anything), and would not charge us for the diagnosis. While he was there he was also able to jump the blower motor wiring on our pellet stove, so we were able, at least, to have a backup for heat running downstairs. He also didn't charge us for that. Since our home 'warranty' company has chosen to cash us out on the unit rather than repair it, it looks like we'll be working with Master Mechanical directly on getting it fixed. read more

I look at reviews and sometimes think they are fake or written by family members. This is not a fake review. This contractor is dishonest and should not be used. My tenant called me at 6PM on a Friday night and told me the furnace stopped working. I called Master Mechanical and they told me someone could be out in 2 hours. The charge would be $150 and I would be charged from the time the tech left the previous job to the time he finished my job. The tech called me at 8:12PM and told me he was leaving to my house. He completed his diagnoses at my house and left for another job at 9:03PM. This is less than one hour and I was charged $225. The owner told me I was charged extra for the tech to go home. However, the tech told me he was leaving for another job. The tech did not go home after my job, he went to another job. So the owner is double charging the tech travel time to me and the other job. Next the tech proceeded to tell me by blower motor was beyond repair and I had to get a new system (thousands of dollars). There was nothing that could be done until Monday because they were closed on Saturday and Sunday. The tech said his boss would call me first thing Monday morning. I had to tell my tenant to move out of the house until the furnace could be replaced. His boss never called me until Wed night ( 5 days later). I am glad I did not wait for them to fix my system. I drove 4 hours round trip to check out the furnace myself the next day. I checked the blower motor and to my surprise there was nothing wrong with it so I called another contractor to diagnose the problem. In 15 minutes the other contractor found the problem and proceeded to fix it. The other contractor said it would be a good 5 years before the furnace needed replacement. I called my tenant and told her to move back into the home. Thanks to the other contractor my tenant only stayed away from the rental for 1 day instead of several days and I saved thousands of dollars. I spoke to my neighbor about my furnace and he told me his blower went out about 3 years ago and he had to have his entire furnace replaced. Stay clear of this company! My parents have spent thousands of dollars on them, only to have them guess and throw parts at the ac system trying to find a leak. They finally claim that the leak is coming from the evaporator. Paid for the labor to change the evaporator at end of last summer, turned the ac on a couple days ago and there is absolutely no freon in the system. The will not come check unless we shall out more money. They dont stand behind their work...stay well clear of these hacks!!!! read more

I received the worst service from this company. The technician was fairly decent, although he didn't seem knowledgeable and was probably new, but at least he was nice and had good customer service skills. However, both the office manager and the secretary were incredibly rude. I called to pay for my invoice (which was astronomically high for the lack of service provided), and received attitude like it was a burden to process my payment. If this were my business I would be incredibly embarrassed at the lack of customer service the ladies in the office were providing. The owner should really consider providing customer service training to their employees. read more

We had air conditioning installed October 2018. Great service, prompt communication and fair pricing!

They charged me for drive time TO AND FROM the appt. They also didn't quite have enough freon to fill my very average size AC system so they charged me for another appt, once again the drive time TO AND FROM the appt. This means they are essentially charging double time to their customers if they are going from appt to appt!! This didn't come out until I got charged $600 for a simple freon fill up. I've had many of these appointments before in my various rental houses and I've never been charged $600 for filling freon. When I told management (John) my camera saw their tech was only on site for an hour, he pulled the driving records and showed me they charge the drive time both ways too. In addition, if the tech doesn't have enough freon, any other AC company in the world would send the tech out again for free due to the embarrassment of the tech not having the most basic material that is so common to need when ACs go out. The technician was great, but the billing practices and management have backwards and corrupt views. How is it my fault you needed another trip because your tech ran out of freon? Why am I responsible to pay drive time between your appointments both ways, when your tech could be coming from California for all I know?? read more

They told me they were replacing my 80% efficiency furnace with one that was "much more efficient". They replaced it with another 80% efficiency furnace. I called the owner to complain and asked him to do what he thought was right. He went off on me over the phone and decided the "right thing to do" was charge me the original price of $2000 plus tax. This was for a $750 retail price furnace plus a total of 5 hours of his employee time so he clearly had some room to compensate me a little for his share of this misunderstanding. They also advertise a 7% senior citizen discount which they did not give me. I have no complaint about the workmanship but you cannot trust what this company tells you and I did not deserve to be yelled at by the owner. read more

I currently live at the Grove in flagstaff and they use master mechanical for all the heating and air conditioning problems. We have had many different workers come in and try to fix our unit and nothing has worked since we moved in during August! BUT today Marty came by and was able to fix our heater and air conditioning in less than 30 minutes! Marty is amazing at his job and is super nice and respectable. Although I have had issues with master mechanical in the past, the experience I had today with Marty made everything better. Not only was he able to fix it, he was able to explain to me what the issue was in a way that I could understand. I would recommend using master mechanical if you ask for Marty! read more

Going cheaper sometimes makes me skeptical with the thought that "you get what you pay for". This was far from it. The customer service was great! The installation was great! Justin and Davin (i believe it was Davin) took very good care of us during our install. Justin made sure we were comfortable and answered any questions we had. Our heating systems was not working at all. The company didn't seem too concerned and arranged for someone to come out the next day at 8:00 am. The next day came and never heard from anyone. Stayed home from work to wait for them to arrive. At 10:30, we still had not heard from them. Had to call them. Tech finally arrived and stayed for two hours, but left without telling me anything about was wrong or what he had worked on. We had to use his company for a home warranty but after all the craziness, warranty or no warranty, we are going with a different company. Tech was nice but not very communicative. Heater still working intermittenly at best. When I tried to ask questions, tech said that he couldn't talk because he was "on the clock", which made no sense. Since this was supposed to be a warranty call, they didn't feel inclined to provide me a copy of the work done or work completed, even thought I had to pay the $75.00 service fee. If you want excellent customer service and peace of mind, you might want to look elsewhere for a heating and cooling contractor. read more
