    Papa Charlie’s Heating & Cooling

    Papa Charlie’s Heating & Cooling

It's strange writing this review on such a cool day, but after talking to a friend today that…read morementioned to me how much she struggled with the heat in her home this summer, I thought I need to set up a page for Frank and his son Adam, as Papa Charlie's is awesome! There was a time when Flagstaff air conditioning worked, closing the blinds and windows in the daytime and opening them up at night, but after the summer we had, this is no longer a feasible way to cool your house, unless you're totally covered in trees, when you have several weeks in the upper 90s. Friends and neighbors were telling me how their homes overnight were in the upper 80s and low 90s! I hate heat, and even 80° is hot for me, so luckily, we had Frank and Adam install our AC in May, so we were ready to go for the summer! I received 5 quotes from various HVAC contractors, and all of them, except for Papa Charlie's, required you to hire a separate electrical contractor for the electrical work. Frank and Adam were the only ones who did it all, and for an excellent price! I can't imagine how much more we would've paid, if we had to hire a separate electrical contractor as well. it has been amazing having AC on hotter days, on house cleaning days, and since we are in a flood zone, on windy days where the dirt is blowing. On the super hot days, it is so nice to be able to sleep at night! Our largest APS bill was in July, and even though we didn't run it all day long, and we like the temp around 70-71°, our largest bill was $98, up about $50 from where our bill is typically. A small price to pay for comfort! This tells me that the unit is also extremely efficient! Frank and Adam were amazing! Great communication, on time, the entire job done in one day, and just downright nice! Our dogs were up in their business now and then, and Frank and Adam were so great to them, giving lots of pets and loving! Papa Charlie's will be our go to, for all of our future heating and cooling needs!

He answered all my questions, I was so impressed I signed up for their yearly service. They will be out before winter to check the system provides heat. The price was very reasonable in my opinion and was a good bang for the buck.

I called due to my AC struggling to keep the house cool during the summer temps…read more Originally I was not shown any digital diagnostics but was told multiple times that the refrigerant was not low First attempt was replacing the TXV, which I was told made no change Then I was quoted for a coil replacement I agreed and had that service done Here is where the problems kind of escalated To replace the coil refrigerant has to be removed, I was informed that I was actually low by 2lbs from a 5lb system Not only that, the system performance was still the exact same after the coil was replaced... they confirmed this with their sensors Then I spoke to the previous home owner who told me the coil was replaced just 2 years ago, so a coil failing that quick is almost impossible... Everything pointed to the fact that the coil was not actually the problem at all and that this service was done unnecessarily I ended up putting the diagnostics I was provided into AI which also had the same opinion that based on everything and my situation, the coil replacement was not needed I had to call them back because their own diagnostics showed that the system was still performing poorly and there was a diagnostic test that was not done even from the beginning which would have actually proven whether the coil needed to be replaced or not I figured out from the data I was given that the issue was the blower was turned to the max setting As soon as it was adjusted then the AC system was performing correctly So in the end the system was actually low on refrigerant and a simple adjustment on the blower was all we really needed I was still charged for the full coil service, no discount To this day we can't say for certain that the coil replacement was necessary and there was no change in the system after it was replaced The main change occurred after our blower was adjusted... Had the FULL digital diagnostic been done from the beginning I would have concrete data, but instead I was only provided with a digital diagnostic after the coil replacement Before the coil replacement I was only shown a hand held analog device which had a small amount of data and did not actually show that we needed a new coil I do feel like I was ripped off and regret not getting a second opinion before going with the full coil replacement, which came out to 1700$ I do appreciate the honesty ( which is why this isn't a 1 star review ), they didn't have to admit that we were actually low on refrigerant and that the temperatures were the exact same before and after the coil swap They did return to make the adjustment to the blower when I called, but it should have been done before leaving to be honest In the end I still feel like I should not have been charged the full coil replacement price, based on everything that happened.... Because it looked like all we really needed was a refrigerant refill and a blower adjustment which should be have been a couple hundred at most.... -1 for not providing full digital diagnostic from the beginning -1 for charging me the full price even after we all saw there was no change in the system after the coil swap

The guy from Boyer talked me into upgrading to a $10,000 air conditioner and I agreed. Their workers installed an air conditioning unit and left dirty hand prints on my walls and cigarette butts in my yard, but I was excited none the less for air conditioning. However the air was barely blowing. They finally came back out and said my ducts were damaged by rodents and wanted to charge me another $1,000 to fix them. I got another company to come out and inspect, they told me the air conditioner installation was not up to code, and that the ducts were sun damaged by a window in the attic, and no sign of rodents and that they could replace my ducts and repair Boyer's work for $3,000. I called Boyer and they insisted it was up to code, but that they would check and fix anything that wasn't so I agreed to have them come back and replace the ducts. Boyer sent the same guys to replace the ducts and I don't know if they actually inspected their own work to see if it was up to code. The air is still barely blowing, and I'm $11,000 in and now I am worse off than before they ever came. I'm currently having to heat my house with space heaters because the ducts are barely blowing even though the heater is running on over time. I've called again and am waiting for them to come back. This is ridiculous. I will update my review if they actually fix it.

Chad came and did a courtesy check... all was fine. Very courteous, professional, and understanding of our need to have the heater checked.
