EDIT: Almost immediately after posting this review the owner of the company reached out to me and was clearly appalled by the technicians work. He was incredibly apologetic and offered a completely refund and then some for the damages. While the service I received was not good. It was certainly fixed after the fact. For that I'm appreciative. At the very least if the business you experienced was bad the boss will take care of it tenfold. Yikes. Called in and inquired about having a lock put in on a bedroom door in my home, I was quoted 50-100 not including the 29.99 service fee. I was told the tech would arrive at 2:20 in the afternoon and around that time I was called and told they were coming in 35-50 minutes. When the tech arrived to look at the door he said it was going to cost over twice as much as originally quoted. I explained the original quote but he pushed back. In a crunch I allowed him to proceed with cutting a hole and putting a deadbolt in the door. This process from start to finish took over 4 hours. About an hour into his work he told me he had to leave and come back with a different part he said 20-30 minutes. It took him an hour to return and prior to leaving no work had even been completed save for a circular guide attached to the door to cut. Midway through the work I noticed his hole cut into the door had completely peeled the paint down to the wood. When he finished he left a huge mess, ripped paint, the door doesn't shut completely when it is locked and the metal piece the bolt goes into it completely uneven. I reached out to the boss, the original man I spoke to. He declined my call and so I sent the following photos to him. This is NOT $224 worth of work. He never replied. Never called back. Never reached out in any way. It's clear they have taken advantage of a situation and now won't take any responsibility. Don't waste your time. This is a hack job. read more

Called to have my deadbolt replaced on my front door. After first contacting Master Locksmith directly, I received calls from a series of people. They did show up timely, but it was 2 guys in a car. They seemed to know what they were talking about and after looking at my situation they said they had to go back to the "shop" to pick up parts. When they came back it was clear they just went to Home Depot to pick up a replacement lock. They had trouble installing the lock and had to FaceTime with someone who walked them through what was needed. They did eventually get the lock replace, but my door was damaged a bit and the front door needs some paint replaced because they did not get a match to the previous lock shape. Also, the door does not latch, so it always has to have the deadbolt engaged to stay shut. I thought the price they charged was exorbitant, but they knew I didn't have any options. *EDIT: I spoke with Daniel on the phone immediately after I posted the original review. He was accommodating and said that he was out of the state during the time of our service. He issued us a refund for our entire service charge.* My partner and I used master locksmith to work on an ignition issue. 1. The first problem we had was that we could not get an actual estimate before we ordered service. This should have been our first sign to jump ship. But we needed to issue fixed right away and since they had such a high yelp review score, we figured it would be fine (I think they have a high yelp score because they challenge negative reviews and have them removed from yelp, which is awful practice). The phone agent gave us a "very rough estimate" of about $200-300 for the issue we were needing fixed. 2. The mechanic showed up to work on the ignition. Rather than do the job that we had called and scheduled, he gave a completely different remedy for the issue. I don't know why he veered away from our actual inquiry and scheduled maintenance request. Maybe because we are women and they're sexist? The solution they recommended was over $400. Again, since we needed the issue fixed asap, we got it done. 3. The solution that the mechanic did (rekeying, instead of replacing the ignition) DID NOT WORK. The key he made only worked for a few weeks, then the key got STUCK IN THE IGNITION for a few weeks. A few weeks later, that key failed to start the car altogether. 4. Customer Service sucks. And their "guarantee of parts and labor" is bull. We called and talked to customer service multiple times. They sent the mechanic back out once to address the issue. They key worked again, but only temporarily. After a short time, we were back where we started. When we called customer service to share our dissatisfaction and to ask for a refund based on their "guarantee for parts and labor"... their whole story changed. They said that the mechanic had offered us multiple options (including the option we had originally scheduled maintenance for) and quoted us $900 vs $400 and we *chose* the cheaper option. This was absolutely untrue. The mechanic did not give an estimate for our original inquiry at all. They only offered us one solution and only quoted us for that rekeying service. Customer service agent said because we knowingly chose the cheaper option, it doesn't qualify for their guarantee. Even after we explained that none of that was true, about the mechanic giving multiple options with multiple quotes, the agent said that was that. The whole experience was frustrating and such a waste of our time and money. We never got reimbursed for anything and the issue we had is still not fixed. We'll be taking the car to the dealer to fix it properly. read more

Shaun and Daniel came through right when I called, I have a very expensive simplex door lock for a commercial store (Sees Candy) that I am building and my installer somehow pulled the locking mechanism and shot springs and pins everywhere. In regards to getting the job done, master locksmith did a good job. They got to my place in half an hour during friday night traffic, which is fantastic. I ran into two issues however: 1.) the charge. Long story short, I essentially just needed my door knob lock picked so i could get into my house, which at the end of the day with an old lock isnt the hardest job in the world. For a job that took less than five minutes, they charged me $100, and did not tell me the cost until it was finished as opposed to before hand 2.) the gentleman who helped me started by asking me what type of new knob i wanted, before even trying to unlock it he started trying to sell me on other options, and although a basic lock pick ended up working (once again for an outrageous price) it was slightly disconcerting that he was already trying to set up a new sale The owner of the business pleasant to talk to to start, and made sure to update me on the timing of his worker, calling to let me know he was running a little late which was greatly appreciated Edit: Daniel proceeded to call me and offer me a partial refund due to my review and me being unhappy w the service. Awesome service! They showed up faster than any locksmith I've called in the past. Super friendly and took care of me. Told me what all my options were for the different doors they could open and what handles I should install. They also gave me a deal--over $50 off. However, that price was based on the door handle costing $95. Now, I'm actually doubting the handle cost that much. I think I could get the same handle on amazon for $25. They left most of the packaging for the lock, but the part of the package with the name and of the product looks like it was intentionally cut out so I can't be sure. Kind of weird. If I use the Master Locksmith, I'll be sure to ask more questions about the pricing and other details to confirm that I'm getting exactly what they're telling me I'm paying for, or I'll just buy the handle and install it myself. read more

UPDATED See 2nd part of review. I got a quote off of yelp for a re-key for $65. The tech came to my house and told me that I actually needed new lock cylinders which would cost $220 for the gold and $199 for the silver plus labor. My set is gold, so he then said "I'll tell you what (immediate used car sales man vibes) I'll give you the gold for the price of the silver." I immediately felt like I was being scammed. Even though I was sure, I went online to confirm re-keying was indeed what I wanted. I told him that it was re-keying not replacing the lock cylinders and showed him the article online that proved it. He got increasingly more frustrated and angry towards me and proceeded to change his story to say that it was me that told him I wanted new locks. Then he began angrily talking in circles trying to make me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. I told him that I didn't like his aggressive threatening attitude and told him to leave. He left and not even 5 mins later texted me from his number claiming to be the owner and that he would take another $5 off. I called the number on the website and their customer service is just someone who works from a call center who has no idea what is going on. She told me she'd have the owner call me. The "owner" called me and his voice was the EXACT same voice of the technician that came to my house. It's possible they're brothers or family, but there's NO mistaking the fact that the technician who called me to tell me he was on his way, then texted me from the same number claiming to be the owner. This company tried to take advantage of me because they thought that a woman wouldn't know any better. This company tried to pretend the owner was a different person than the hostile man who came to my house. It's important for people to trust a locksmith, it's doubly important that you don't feel threatened by a hostile man in your own home. UPDATE 8/3/18 The owner Daniel reached out to me and we have been in communication on how to remedy the situation. We reached an agreement I feel comfortable with so I am more than happy to update this review. He also told me that Steve, the tech that was sent to my house no longer works for him after this incident. I hope that's true. Locked myself out of my house one morning. I called Master Locksmith and they were at my place within 25 min. Because of the nature of my front door, the lock would have to be drilled out. I was apprehensive about doing this and the locksmith found another way to get into my house that was much less invasive and cheaper. I really appreciated how fast they arrived and working with me to find a solution that was within my budget. A maintenance guy that was working outside my house was surprised how fast they came and got me back inside my house. He said he had never known a locksmith to come so quickly. The owner even called after to make sure that everything was done to my satisfaction. Nice enough guy, but very expensive for what he did. If you are in a state of panic over a lock issue, my advice to you is to slow down and ask yourself, "can i fix this myself?" I feel like i could have gone to Home Depot and done just that for 1/4 of the cost. Oh well, what's done is done. At least i have a new lock... (Edit)- minutes after posting the above review, Daniel called me back and offered to refund me a portion of the money that I paid so that I would feel better about the transaction. Overall, not a bad experience, but my advice in the first paragraph still stands- think about doing it yourself first before you call a locksmith in a state of panic. Daniel- you run a business where your customers are having a bad day when they call you. Charging an excessive amount of money to take advantage of the situation is unacceptable. I realize that the person who showed up to do the work was your employee and not you, but they should have decent standards. $200 for changing a front door lock which took 2 minutes is excessive. $130, once you provided a refund, makes things more appropriate, but it would have been a better experience if it was $130 to start with... I certainly can't give 5 stars for this. It was a 3 star review initially, and I'm going to keep it at 3 stars. Part of the reason that you got my phone call in the first place is you were at the top of the list in yelp rating. I personally won't call this business again should I need a locksmith in the future. I wish I could choose a negative star. Worst experience ever. Called the 1st time and the operator told me a technician would call me back in several minutes. No call for the next 1 hour. Called the 2nd time and the operator told me that the technician was busy with another job and would call me in several minutes. No call for another 2 hours. Called the 3rd time and the operator told me to wait for 10 more minutes and if I still don't receive a call back, I should call again. No call during the 10 minutes, of course. When I tried the 4th time, surprisingly, I WAS BLOCKED. During all the 3 calls, I was calm, understanding and didn't make a scene in any sense. It was ridiculous. So I used my husband's phone and called one more time. The operator told me that she would look into it. Then after several minutes, I received a message saying "We don't have tech please stop call to the office, Thanks." Ridiculous. Complete waste of time. If no technicians were available, why didn't you let me know in the first place? I could have found some other people to replace my keys during these 4 hours.
