He had his key machine in his van ready to go and I mentioned to him I had my own set of keys to duplicate since someone else I went to wasn't really responding and doubled price on me for an older car! You would think a car with a proximity key would cost more right? Someone quoted me $80 for that key and $150 per key for my 2007 civic. With the amount of work that goes in to proximity keys I was stunned by the $150 up charge for an older car. Originally I was going to get a spare key for my 2017 Acura but have decided that I wanted to get my civic keys done as a priority. After five months, the fob is not working again. I paid $110 in October for Reuven to come out and replace the batteries in two of my Mini Cooper keys. Shortly after, the battery was already dying again. When I reached out, instead of any explanation or support, he sent only a YouTube video showing how to change the battery myself. No message, no follow up. Just a video. That response felt dismissive and unprofessional, especially after paying for the service. Ruben was fantastic to work with. Our front door had two separate locks. One had a thumb turn on the inside with no key access outside. The other required a key on both sides. We wanted something more practical with key access from the outside and a thumb turn inside. Ive been spoiled by getting my locks rekeyed by whatever complex I've been living in, so i got a bit of sticker shock over the $89 flat rate for a one-lock rekey, BUT that came with 3 keys, AND it took the guy 5 minutes. The circumstance that necessitated the job made the charge worth it. I suppose I considered what I paid the cost of peace of mind.
