DO NOT GO TO HAWKER AUTOMOTIVE ON SUNSET I took my vehicle to Hawker automotive on September 12, 2025 to have the lower left control arm replaced. Then, on September 30, 2025 I brought it back because I thought the other control arm might need replacement. Instead, they recommended an alignment, which I approved. When I picked up the car Scott told me that the alignment was "all in the green and there was no more pulling." We left on vacation that Friday to California. About 1.5 hrs into the trip we notice our steering wheel would turn about 1/2-1 inch to the right when braking and that same amount to the left when accelerating. Not understanding the severity of the issue and the fact that there was no shops open at the time we continued to drive it to our destination. The first thing we did when we got into town was take it to a shop. Upon inspection, they discovered that the main bolt on the control arm they had replaced was never tightened. This is an extremely dangerous mistake -- a loose control arm bolt can cause major steering issues or even loss of control while driving. Because of this, the alignment done on September 30 was completely inaccurate, since the suspension wasn't properly secured in the first place. When I confronted the shop, they refused to issue a refund and only offered a discount on another service, which I found unacceptable given the seriousness of the error. ‼‼‼This kind of oversight shows a lack of basic safety checks and quality control. Hawker Automotive's stellar reputation is well deserved. I brought my 2007 Honda CRV with over 230,000 miles in for an engine issue and I told Scott that if the repair was costly, I was just going to sell the car. Turns out the issue was the same one that I had almost a year ago and I was one week away from the part being out of warranty. Hawker fixed the issue for no charge. Hawker also sells used cars. A less honest repair shop could have made up an exspensive repair and then lowballed me on purchasing the vehicle. The manager treated me...and talked to me in a demeaning and degrading manner...as if I was a stupid woman. He charged me 100$ to tell me what I already knew as he would not listen to what I had already had diagnosed by 3 other sources. There was nothing resolved but he told me to talk to the dealer. 2 part review 1- I called about my diesel van over the summer, they assured me they worked on diesels and had good reviews so I took my van in. I'm a single gal, I don't know much about cars but one thing I do know is that a diesel engine will last hundreds of thousands of miles. They couldn't figure out what was wrong and chalked it up to having too many miles, age of the vehicle and engine failure which makes zero sense for a diesel. They gladly took my money for two hours of labor. I got a good referral for another shop that was easily able to find the problem and had the van fix the next day. 2- I decided to give this place a second shot when my car was totaled in front of their shop and I needed to purchase a new one. I literally only needed this vehicle to last a year, 2 tops. Well when I took it in for an oil change some things where pointed out about the transmission, lights started going off shortly after. I've barley drivin it this past month, purchased it in June. Transmission is completely trashed and will be $5500 to fix, car was only $7500. They couldn't even get this car to last 6 months. Repairs I expected, it's used and high miles but not this. I told the guy I just needed something get me by for a year, I didn't need anything fancy just something reliable. This place is absolute scum, like the stereotypical douche bag shop that take advantage of someone down on their luck with a smile on their face to make a buck. Scum. read more

False information on my vehicle I purchased. Some may even say fraudulent. My bill of sale said 153,000. My down payment paperwork said it was actual mileage for this car. I went to trade it in and found out through CarFax in 2015 this car had 189,000. I thought for sure they would have made it right by buying it back. I even offered to take a $3,000 loss and they just pay it off and take the car back. They said no and offered me $2,200. That is actually what the car is worth knowing there is a mileage discrepancy in the CarFax. There whole thing, and what they told me is they had no idea about the car they bought and sold to me so it isn't on them that they reported the wrong mileage and claimed it was actual mileage. If I was you, I wouldn't buy a car from them since they claim to not really know what they are selling. If you do, get the CarFax, bring it to another shop and have it checked over. I couldn't believe they would not be solid honest businessmen. The CarFax tracks from oil changes and services. From 9 miles 11/03/09 and it goes to 189,000 miles 09/02/16. There is a gap from 152,000 04/15/2015-189,000 mile 09/02/2016, a gap where it wasn't serviced. From there the mileage drops to 105,000 miles 11/10/2016 where people started servicing it again. A natural climb of service records to the 153,000 miles 05/02/2022 my purchase date I'd understand if it wasn't serviced or anything. But these numbers pretty much don't lie. Yes he did offer me to buy it back. But amazingly at the price knowing there is an odometer rollback or discrepancy. I was willing to take a loss and they weren't willing to be righteous businessmen. I only wanted what was owed to pay rest of loan off and they could have the car back and resell it. There obviously is something going on with the mileage discrepancy. If they knew or not. They should have known. You would like to know they know what they are buying so they know what they are selling to you. Apparently they admittedly "had no idea" I've always liked them and trusted them. But these numbers add up. Oil changes, services. It shocked me I was treated this way. What makes me really think they knew something was up with the car was what the salesman said to me when I brought it in to get a part fixed.....in a laugh he said "well this car has never been under the water" I mentioned it and everyone backpeddled. I imagine at 105,000 miles a motor was replaced. And that doesn't mean the mileage of the car is affected. Just the motor. I'd just like this to be made right. read more

My 2007 Chevy Duramax Diesel lost power about 6 miles outside of St. George and AAA recommended Hawker Automotive and towed me there late in the day. Scott was very helpful, friendly and understanding of my situation. In spite of being already very busy, they were able to diagnose the problem the next morning and got me back on the road by noon the next day! After having the AC serviced just before we left LA, it dies suddenly about an hour out of town. We're headed first to Idaho and then to Wyoming and we're going to do all that, in August, without AC? "Flexible" he whispers in his best Sandra Tsing Loh voice. "We're going to be flexible". We get to Wyoming a little sticky and windblown but otherwise fine but now the car is making horrible noises. The local guys confirm that we'll need a new AC compressor but they can't get the part before we plan to leave. So now it's time to work the phones. First AAA to find an approved shop in our next destination, St George. Then check Yelp to confirm that they're rated highly. Then call Scott at Hawker Auto and explain our situation. I give him all the particulars and he says that he'll get the part ordered so that it's waiting about the time we arrive. We roll in with a serpentine belt that can be yanked off the pulleys by hand and pray that the engine isn't shot. Two days later after some parts supplier drama of his own Scott calls to say that the car's ready and the bill is within $2 of his original estimate. Turns out the the engine's fine. 2001 Cadillac SLS windshield washer stopped working. After looking up how to replace I realized I would need a mechanic. Decided on Hawker Automotive because it was close to my home and there was only one bad review on Yelp, all others positive. Now there is another positive review! I left the car with Scott after discussing what some of the possible problems might be resulting in failure of windshield washer fluid to pump out. These included bad pump (cheapest fix), bad switch or an unknown wiring problem. Scott and his crew quickly found the problem and fixed it (bad pump, $159 p&l). He texted me that my car was ready a few hours after I dropped it off. A mechanic could have easily mislead me on this and gone for a more expensive fix but this was not the case. Scott and Hawker Automotive have earned my trust and I will use them in the future to take care of my old but reliable caddie. read more

These guys will attempt to rip you off. They recommended multiple services which were not required. I brought in my car and asked for a general diagnostic, as well as investigating a small oil leak. They said leave the car and come back in 30 minutes. 2 hours later I called, concerned that something must be wrong. Nope. The guy who checked my car in just went to the dentist. After two hours they recommend $800 worth of repairs. And they never completed the general diagnostic check. I took my car to another shop. They cleaned up the oil leak and sealed it for $50. I had suspected the front axle and control arm on the right front tire to be the culprits for the shaking issue I was encountering on the highway at freeway speed's upon acceleration. These guys didn't pull any punches and immediately affirmed upon inspection that my gut feeling was accurate. They even offered to show me all of the parts that were contributing to the issue so that I could have a full understanding of what needed to be done at why. That kind of honesty earns a golden five star rating in my book! These people are honest, fair, upfront, and have a positive end result for everyone at heart unlike so many other auto shops. They have the best prices I have seen in Southern Utah alone. Doug does not pressure you, or follow you 2 inches behind every second. He actually lets you take a look at a car. And lastly, they are good honest mechanical and thorough people. Now, where do you ever see that anymore? I have been to pushy dealerships that ask you 1,000 questions the second you step on the lot, questions about "how much per month do you want to pay?" and "who's buying a car today?" Yet, they cannot answer a historic or mechanical question about a single car. Hawker Automotive is so much of a better place to shop for a used car. Our day started out perfect...we left our campsite early to beat the traffics and got to Zion National Park at a decent time. We paid the $30 admission fee to enter the park and drove down the long tunnel towards the visitor center. We were excited to hike Angel Landing and the Narrow that day, however things didn't go as we had planed...As we was driving down the zig-zag road, I noticed a guy on the side of the road pumping his hands signaling drivers to slow down. A second guy got out of his car and point at the mountain with his mouth wide open as if he just saw Godzilla. A lady pulled over with her camera and started snapping photos of the actions.... Everything happened all at once and I did not know what was going on until I looked over to my right side and saw the dust from the hillside. ROCK SLIDE!!!! I quickly step on the gas to get out of the way of the rocks that was coming down the hillside, however I wasn't able to dodge the rock that was rolling right in front of my lane. I drove over it and piece of shit punctured the oil pan. Upon arriving at the visitor center we noticed the puddle of oil under our car and our perfect day quickly turns gray... On top of that, that day happened to be Pioneer's day which is a major holiday in Utah so most businesses closed for the day. After hours of calling around to find a tow truck and a mechanic that was opens and can do the repair we eventually got a hold of Hawker Automotive. Unlike the other mechanic shops we called in the area, my man Scotty was positive and promised to take care of us and got the oil pan replaced by the next day. He knew we was on a tight schedule and went the extra miles to ensure he was able to find the parts and get the job done for us by the following day as promised. All the other shops in the area wasn't being positive and was saying it will take 2-3 days to replace a freaken oil pan.... Long story, short... we paid closed to $800 for our trip to Zion just to see one deer, use the bathroom, but we got our car fixed and was able stay on track as we continued our trip to Denver. The moral of the story is never run over a rock at Zion, because they're sharp as a MF, pulled over to check your car if you do drive over a rock, and visit Scott if you need a mechanic in St. George, UT! read more

I went to get my air conditioning fixed. I paid close to $1000, when I went to pick up my vehicle, it was still blowing hot air. The second time I went to get my car I was charged an extra $250. It worked for about a month, then I used my heater one time, then my air conditioning stopped working. I took my car back and Mr. Hawker told me that I would have to pay $75 an hour for diagnostics. I had not used Hawker Automotive before, but they are close by my home and I brought in my recently purchased 2005 Buick to check out a brake issue. I also requested their used car inspection. They serviced the brakes, pointed out a couple of items that needed attention later and also told me what was right with my car. I have since brought my car there a second time. What a great experience! This was my experience at Hawker Automotive on Sunset. I have a Ford Truck and I guess the spark plugs in this particular truck can break off if not taken out correctly. If they break it cost a whole lot more to remove. I called around and talked to different shops including the Ford Dealership, all said it was going to be expensive and time consuming. I just did not feel like anyone was being honest which made me think they were just going to tell me no matter what that one of the spark plugs broke so pay up. Then I called Hawker and got a very honest straight answer to my questions, so I decided to take a chance. I am so happy I did because the service was great and they did not break any plugs. My truck runs better then it ever has! The cost for the service was more then fair. Hopefully I will not be back anytime soon but if something does goes wrong I have my local mechanic whom I can trust. read more

The other place actually told me it would just be best to get rid of it!!! So, I figured my last chance would be here, at hawker automotive. After their inspection of the vehicle in which needed repair, they assured me that fixing it wasnt a problem, and as a matter of fact not a waste of money at all. Hawker is THE most honest and fair automotive center I have ever been to. They are completely up front and honest and provide exact quotes with exact pricing before any work is ever done. Then they always stick true to their pricing. They always seem to go above and beyond in providing exceptional customer service as well. I recently had my family vehicle in the shop and when they needed more time to diagnose all the issues I had asked them to check out (which was a pretty HUGE list, let me tell you) they offered to give me one of their used vehicles (that they were about to put on their lot for sale) to use until my car was fixed ABSOLUTELY FREE OF ANY CHARGE. I was blown away with the offer. I have never had an automotive shop care about inconveniencing a customer let alone to the extent that they would bend over backwards to provide this caliber of service. Needless to say, I would strongly encourage anyone looking for a great mechanic and a great automotive experience to give hawker a go.
