Several homes were affected, it looked ugly, not only in terms of athestics, but also in home values lost. Hetherington Engineering not only designed an elegant fix that actually enhanced the homes beyond where they were initially, he did it in a timely manner and with class. The properties involved are staying where they are forever, the fix is locked in bedrock! He just delivered documents stating that we are whole, that nothing is moving. Ever. Would I use him again for another project? Yes! Put Hetherington on the interview list for your next project.

We live in San Diego and have water seepage issues in a storage room when it rains. After assessing…read morethe area they recommended a sump pump and WaterGuard drainage system all along the concrete wall. We had a couple options, but what I appreciated the most was the honest input and recommendations on what pump to use and what would work best for our issue. We did receive quotes from other companies and theirs was by far the most affordable and exactly what we needed. We were able to get in the schedule within a few weeks and the crew arrived promptly on the morning of the install and walked us through the project steps. They took two days to complete it, which is amazing considering the drilling, trenching, removal of concrete and installation. Throughout the entire process the crew was so nice and respectful of our home. We felt like we were being well taken care of, and they took pride in the work that they did; especially considering that El Niño rains were coming and our neighborhood is prone to floods. I've already recommended them to a friend that needs work done in her crawlspace. Shout out to our excellent crew, Eric, Manny, and Luis!

They WILL keep your retainer even if you…read moredon't proceed, so avoid putting money down they will justify it with a single hour visit. $850 for a single 1 hour visit, no joke. They will literally rob you of your retainer and then ignore your emails. Unfortunately I hired Erin from Design Group which required a retainer of $850 to come have a consultation. Yup you read that right. Just to get them to come out, you have to put down a retainer for the job. Well didn't seem that bad at first since I was going to use them anyways. However, upon arrival it became very clear that Erin was just full of buzzwords and not at all used to social queues or ability to read the room. She was pushing her way or no way for how we would layout the barn. I really wanted my land to be used the way it was, but she was insistent that the only option was to put the barn part way into my driveway. What a horrible suggestion. I have 2.5 acres of land with adequate room. Yes there is a creek that runs through a portion of it and some leeways that are about 60 ft around the fence line but there are plenty of options to work with. Unfortunately Erin wasn't kind enough to discuss those options, she just kept pushing that we build it several feet into my driveway and just reroute the driveway if needed. I continued to let her know this is not how I want it as this is my home and I want it done nicely, not just to make it fit where it's most easy for land moving. She continued to talk at my general contractor and myself for another 30 minutes about her opinions and refusing to discuss other options until finally she left. We decided not to move forward with Engineering Design Group due to their narrow vision and inability to think outside the box or even communicate effectively. I wish that was where the story ends. Erin had spent a little less than an hour at my property of which I have Nest Cameras showing her arrival and departure. I asked for a refund of the retainer minus her 1 hour consultation and the proceeded to keep $475 of the retainer because she had to answer the phone a couple of times to set up the consultation and did the site visit. I reached out and said I'm fine with up to $250 for that one hour, but anymore then that is just getting to be price gauging and they should really reconsider this. They pushed back and said I'm sorry you weren't happy with the consultation fee. Then proceeded to ignore me after that. I've never dealt with such an unprofessional company. I'm so disappointed in this place. I can't imagine how they could possibly stay in business with practices like this.

We then spoke over the phone and he was very generous with his time working through our situation and giving us great advice on how to move forward. His knowledge and advice were invaluable. On top of that, he didn't charge me for his time even when I offered to pay him. I've been working in the real estate industry for a long time and It's rare to find people like Nicolas who are true gems in the industry. Thank you so much!

Once the city signed off on the permits, work began and was steady until completion. Concerning estimates, our project was close to a million dollars. I hired Brian Thomas from February 2020 through March of 2020 and here are the reasons why I do not…read morerecommend using this company: 1. The contract I signed with them was for one year, 12 months, of SWPPP inspections, for which they quoted me $13,390. After less than 2 months worth of work, when I had to end the contract, they had already billed me $14,422.61. 2. Part of those charges included a $1,119.34 charge for "material markup". They had stated that the materials they were going to provide, for erosion control, were going to be supplied at cost. When asked about this "markup" charge they stated "we charge a 15% mark up on materials", because "ordering your materials puts a potential burden on the company". So that is what this company means when they say "at cost". 3. When Brian Thomas first came to my site to start the work he stated that he was there on his own dime "to help". On his final bill he included two charges totaling $595 for such visits. When asked about these charges their response was: "[Brian] did not state that he was consulting free of charge" and "if you hadn't removed us from the project after just a month of being on it, Brian may have been willing to remove those charges". So that is what this company mean when they say "we are here to help on our own dime". 4. When asked about the $5,000 worth of inspections they performed in just over a month their response was to send some documents so that I could "educate yourself on what is required per your SWPPP". The company I was using to perform such inspections, and who I re-hired after I terminated Brian Thomas' contract, charges me $1,000 to perform the same inspections. In other words Brian Thomas charged me 5 times more than an average company does. Brian Thomas will use their "knowledge" of the requirements for these inspections to charge you as much as they possibly can even though the State does not require that many inspections. 5. My relationship with Brian Thomas started to fall apart when they started to push additional services on me. I've had a grading company doing most of the work for my grading project for over a year (and I am about 2/3 done with the project). First Brian Thomas suggested they had a crew of people that could install BMPs, something my grading company was already doing, and then they even suggested that I should fire the grading company I was using (because they were incompetent). Having the same company that performs inspections also perform the work needed to pass those inspections is a conflict of interest: you are essentially creating work for yourself. But that is how Brian Thomas works. 6. When managing a grading project there are 2 main inspections you need to perform: a SWPPP inspection and a grading inspection. Brian Thomas can only perform one of them: the SWPPP inspection. If you are planning on doing a grading project I recommend getting a company that can perform both inspections, like the one I am using, and not a company that can only perform one of them, like Brian Thomas. This was my experience with Brian Thomas. If you chose to use them for your project may you have a better experience.
