The building itself is over 500 years old and has an rich history, mainly as the village bakery but also as a meeting place for "dissenters" from the local church in the late 18th century. The have a main room, a parlour and a delightful garden tucked away at the back. Walkers are invited to remove their muddy boots, children and dogs are welcomed as long as they behave, and smoking is prohibited even in the garden - yes there are rules, but this make for a pleasant experience for all.
Tea is served in tin teapots, with bone china cups and saucers, every detail perfected even down to the delicately decorated teaspoons. Coffee is also available along with a wide range of home baked cakes, afternoon tea and fresh scones (the cheese and pecan scones are divine!)
A full range of sandwiches, ploughman's lunches and homemade soups are also available for those with a larger appetite, as well as a hearty breakfast menu if you arrive before 12.
I would recommend a visit to the village of Alfriston to anybody, it is a picturesque and quaint gem tucked away in the Sussex countryside. Take a walk on the Downs, visit the local pubs, but make sure you save time for a pot of tea and a cheese scone at Badger's!
