Whenever my sweetheart and I used to visit Brighton for weekend trips we'd always try and eat at Terre A Terre. Now we live here we still go for special occasions and spontaneous treats. We'd eat there more but alas, neither of us have won the lottery yet! On Saturday, we threw caution to the wind and decided to pop in and share a Terre A Tapas. For the uninitiated, this is a mezze platter which consists of bite size portions of several dishes on the menu, As well as being the perfect size for two for lunch, it's also a great way to sample some of the dishes you've always been curious about but not ordered yet. Was it any good? This is Terre A Terre, remember your manners! They serve the most imaginative and tasty vegetarian food I've tasted to date. I can't recall all the different treats on our plate but particular hilights were the chaat spiced poori with black salt mashed potatoes and chana peas, lavish tanoor bread crumbs with aubergine zhuganoush and buttermilk coated hallumi fried and served with pea mint hash and pickled quails egg. Our absolute favourite though, was the corn cake frits with tamarillo salsa, avacado spice mash and chilli jelly. Will we going back again for more corn cake frits and their equally delicious puddings and champagnes? Already booked the table!

This is what food is all about. Terre A Terre has been on my 'to try' list for years and last night, finally, I visited the restaurant with a friend (and fellow Yelper) who had recommended it to me. I'd heard great things all around, but nothing had quite prepared me for the taste sensations that lay ahead. Firstly, the staff in here are fabulous. So polite and attentive but not too formal - they'll have a giggle with you whilst serving, which is so nice! Secondly, the interior is beautiful. Simple, elegant and comfortable, with a gorgeous little outdoor area that people were in, eating in the last of the evening sun. But, most importantly, the food... Absolutely fantastic! We tried the sharing starter platter (Terre à Tapas Plate), which comes with small portions of some of the starter options. For a plate so varied, I was impressed to say that every single thing on there was incredible. A personal favourite was the battered haloumi and, rather remarkably for a tofu hater, the tofu!! It was incredible and it didn't have that slimy texture that poorly done tofu has. I'd have eaten whole plate of it! For the main I went for the Easy-Peasy Calabrese, which was incredible. The plate arrived looking beautiful, with so many different things on it! There was such a range of flavours and textures in the one dish - it blew me away. Everything was perfect, from the main parts down to the garnishes. The food was clearly prepared with the finest ingredients and absolute skill - I have no doubt about that. The fact that this is a vegetarian restaurant is mind-blowing, in the way that (unless you've come specifically for that reason) you could quite easily dine here without even realising. I love meat, but am always interested in trying veggie options as well, and I must say, I totally forgot I was even 'opting for the vegetarian' here. It didn't even cross my mind! The presentation of the food is wonderful - very upmarket and unique - and overall this is a top-class experience! And the best part is, although this is somewhere you may not be able to afford all the time, it's certainly not going to break the bank! Very reasonable prices for such high standards!! Overall, this was a wonderful experience!! I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes and bring my friends so they can taste the magic as well. Go, go, go!!! :D You won't regret it!!

Vegetarian/Vegan Heaven!! My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary which was very sweet considering he loves a good steak and me... well, not so much. Appetizer Sharing Platter "Fish" and Chips with Seaweed Tartar Sauce and Vodka Soaked Cherry Tomatoes Rosti with Spinach and Poached Egg The menu is very creative and the service was great. As someone else mentioned the food isn't particularly healthy but I have come to expect that when eating out regardless of the type of restaurant. If you like vegetarian or vegan food then there is NO chance you won't like Terre A Terre.

An unforgettable culinary experience. Located in the heart of Brighton, this upscale 100% vegetarian restaurant is creating innovative plant based dishes unlike anything I have tried before. They recently earned a well deserved Michelin Star, an impressive accomplishment for a menu where nearly anything can be made vegan. I came here directly from the airport after a 20 hour travel day, and felt underdressed in my leggings and hoodie. Despite looking like a homeless person in such an elegant ambiance, the staff were lovely and welcoming to me. I was presented with two menus-wine/cocktails, and food. The cocktails looked and sounded amazing, but I was in a wine mood. Amazed by their selection of 30+ certified organic/vegan options, I went with the Pinot Grigio. Generous pour for £7, and paired nicely with the food. Everything on the food menu sounded amazing, with ingredient combinations I have never seen before in a restaurant. Overwhelmed by choice, I decided to have the 3 course "The Set", which for £34.50 includes a choice of starter, main course, and pudding. Be sure to specify to your server if you are vegan, as many menu items require minor modifications to be made vegan. For my starter I had the "KFC", a sweet and sour Korean inspired fried cauliflower dish. Crusted in black and white sesame seeds, the florets were tender while still retaining their structure. The savory cauliflower was balanced by tangy shiso marinated daikon, and a touch of sweet from the dollop of sticky rice, which is topped with a fantastic pickled ginger jelly. My main course was the "Sneeky Peeking Steamers", which exceeded my expectations. The generous portion of Szechuan tofu and ginger bok choy stuffed steamed buns are served in a multi tiered basket, with a beautiful variety of fresh pickled vegetables alongside. As with my starter, the balance of savory, sweet, sour, and spice was impeccable-do not skip these. When I felt I could not be any further impressed, the vegan pudding course option, "Churrosimo" blew my mind. I am from California and have eaten a lot of churros in my life, and these were hands down the best. The delicate fried dough fully absorbs the multifaceted cinnamon spice coating, and the caramel and chocolate dipping sauces bring them to the next level. Fresh berries served alongside are the perfect compliment. I highly recommend Terre A Terre, regardless of whether or not you are vegetarian/vegan.

I had one of the best meals of my life at Terre á Terre! I'm serious. Not just vegan, the apex of all of my former meat-eating days of childhood and university to now, as a fully-fledged vegan adult. We sat at the back of the restaurant under a skylight and next to the open terrace on a lovely warm, summery day in Brighton. My fiancé and I wanted to try this restaurant as a possible venue for our vegan wedding, so we ordered the vegan version of The Terre à Tapas Sharing plate (14.50 per person) so we could sample a variety of things on the menu. While it was not cheap, the sharing platter was huge and we could have been satisfied with just that, despite having come starving from London. The creativity of the flavors and textures were unlike anything and the fresh quality of the ingredients shone through each bite. Hey, you really do get what you pay for! My favorite in the tapas plate was the Bangkok Broken Balls. I know the name sounds dirty, but wait 'til you read the menu description: "Coconut Thai spice rice balls ripped and refried, loaded with toasted peanuts, palm pineapple vinegar lemon oil dressing with pomelo piece, pistachio purée and Thai basil, finished with smoked tomato mince, served in shizo amaranth and gem bouquet garni with coriander mixed shoots." These babies just popped with different spices and rice crispy textures in your mouth--phenomenal! Just look at these beauties in my photos! We ordered the potato Rosti as another appetizer because we didn't want to be overwhelmed with three entrées, so we got the small main features version. The Rosti was a bit plain on its own, and could have used a dollop of applesauce to counterbalance the tartness of the granny apple slices and plain salad on top, but the fried potato texture was crisp and light. I would like to try it again as an entrée with the full complimentary features like smoked tomato, black bean fejoida and marinated crispy cherrywood smoked tofu. All the waiters were the most professional I've experienced in a long while. Very suave, efficient, yet attentive. Even the plates served with hot food were warm upon arrival. Now, onto dessert, we couldn't just choose just one, so we picked the Rice Cream (8.95) and the Churrisimo (8.85) because they sounded like the best vegan options. We would so surprised how rich, sweet, and decadent the dipping sauces were for the churros, especially the melted chocolate and caramel (yep, still vegan) pots. I especially loved the caramel sauce, which tasted of thick, liquid toffee. I turned it over once the churros were polished off to get the last bit of caramel on the plate to scoop up. The Rice Cream was also very good--my fiancé noted how the rice had a beautiful pearly appearance. The warm rice pudding, part of a nice duo with the cool coconut ice cream, with grilled pineapple and apple bits. Just a perfect ending to a terrific meal. Gourmet, plant-based cuisine at its best! By the way, get the loyalty card, 1 point allocated for every £1 spent with a 5% redemption, that's £5 for every £100 spent. You will be back and it's nice to get a lil' something in return for your patronage. They serve brunch and afternoon tea as well as lunch and dinner!

We had the tapas shared plate (vegan option which is a mix of all the different la carte menu) and it was absolutely amazing. We enjoyed it with a bottle of the Vegan Lucia Blanco. Our taste buds were tinged in every which way. An amazing place to eat if you're vegan. We topped this off with their chocolate cake. The best cake we've had that was vegan - rich and dark flavours that can't be described. We will coming back here again for sure.

Terre a Terre is just not my sort of restaurant, let alone not my sort of vegetarian restaurant. It's just not as good as everyone says it is: I refuse to kowtow to the party line here! What is there to like about being crammed into a small space with loads of others, being offered vegetarian food that breaks the main tenant of veggie dining: reminding you of meat by its absence. No, not my sort of place at all, and it deserves being taken down a peg or two. My problem here, primarily, is the mess that Terre a Terre have made of their food. It all tastes great and is well made, but it just reminds too much that the meat is absent. Good veggie food will create entirely new dishes with a different set of ingredients, not make a normal meal and replace the meat with a strong, meaty vegetable, cheese or meat-substitute. Most of Terre a Terre's food is just replace-the-meat, and it's unoriginal and boring. Beyond that, it is good, but it just reminds of what it isn't. Also, the atmosphere in here is just unpleasant. They've squished as many tables as they can into a smallish space, leaving most customers with no elbow room and painfully close to the people next to them. On a busy evening, I find it pretty unbearable. The prices are understandably high for a place that classes itself as almost-fine-dining, my fault here is just with the food and the set-up. Some more inspired cooking and a couple less tables would raise this place massively in my estimation: for now, not a fan at all.

Or meal--big steamer, scrunch chips, soup of the day, and pea puree.

In the year that we've been in the UK, this is by far the best meal that we've had. I had the big dream steamer, which was brilliant. Seriously, amazing combination of flavors and ingredients. I also appreciated the knowledge of the staff and the quality of the service. My wife had the soup of the day (black garlic and red pepper), scrunch chips, and pea puree--she raved about all three. I finished the chips. Great avocado hash.

    pretty right?
    Yes P.

One thing that sticks out in my memory was trying to decide what to order. So many entrees that sounded good! Their dishes are creative and tasty, and seem to include fresh ingredients. The meals are also hearty enough to satisfy your meat-eating companion:) I chose a rosti that consisted of fried potato topped with veggies and goat cheese. See, hearty right? It was delicious. The cocktail menu also had some interesting and refreshing choices. The presentation was great- check out my pretty picture.

One of the best places I have ever eaten. High quality food, and charming service. The vegan afternoon tea was a masterpiece of interesting flavours and beautifully presented. The waitress described all the foods to us and offered suggestions. Price is reasonable considering the quality.

The food is the entertainment...innovative and tasty. Brought me brand new flavours, and thats not easy to give to a travelling, food blogger. For example....they've created a Carracotta...a CARROT panna cotta. Delicious with minute cubes of beetroot salsa. The service is good and atmosphere is buzzing.

After a winning streak of good dining experiences in Brighton, thanks to places found on Yelp or…read moresuggested by other yelpers, on our last day we decided to start wandering around the town and try our luck with a place we'd never heard before. We stumbled upon this place totally by accident, and to be honest with you, from the outside it looks like a pretentious fancy pub, with fancy décor and not an awful lot of good food. Well, the place HAS fancy décor, It's kind of flashy and I would usually avoid such place. But what the hell. We were seated on the balcony upstairs, we had a view of the isle-bar serving smoking cocktails (literally smoking, by the way) and I thought I had better order something hard to mess up, just in case my prejudice is right and food there wasn't going to be all that much. So we ordered a baked Camembert, a cheese board (what do you mean that's too much cheese? Sorry, can't hear you over the sound of this Stilton feasting in my mouth), and the only burger in the menu. I'm going to say it now: that was THE best burger I've had in the UK, and second best only to one I've had abroad. The bun was perfect: soft with crunchy-from-grilling edges, the cheese was melted AS IT SHOULD BE, the patty thick and juicy, it didn't fall apart despite the amount of goodness in it so I could use my hands like I'm meant to. The burger alone wins half of the stars I'm giving this place, the other half being the amazingly friendly staff, and quick and prompt service. The MINUTE I am back in Brighton, there's another one of those burgers with my name on it. Seriously, go have that burger.

The decor is pure class, funky and modern and so much to see. There are lots of different levels and seating areas, each with a different feel. The place attracts a good mix of people, but all pretty high standard. I think the evening has a smart dress code of no trainers or scruffy jeans. The music is brilliant. A complete mix of music jumping all over the decades. There is a big screen showing the videos too which can be quite entertaining. There is a massive bar in the middle of the bottom floor, so easy to get too. The only thing is it slightly dominates people at the bar and less dance space. Get there early if going on a Saturday night as it always gets packed and turns into a one in one out queue. The venue is only small, but makes a good atmosphere because of it. People will start to think I am obsessed with toilets in my reviews, but this has the best women's toilets I've seen in Brighton. Go have a look! I also ate a cooked breakfast here on a Sunday lunchtime and it was top notch. I expected it to be expensive but it wasn't. And to eat in such lush surroundings with very polite and smart staff made me feel like I was in a classy restaurant. Go and check it out if you get a chance is my advice.

That being said, the prices are also extremely reasonable outside of this, at around £6 a cocktail, so it's worth a visit whatever the time! The only downfall of the place is that it is small and often a little cramped, so if you're looking for ample space or don't fancy cosying up to a stranger then this might not be the place for you. We paid £25 for two hours - We brought spirits and we had our own cocktail barmen who mixed the drinks for us their mixers. The venue itself is very hidden, it has no sign outside and to be honest looks like an empty bar which has finished for the evening - the lights are really bright at the front! However, you go in and there are very cosy dark rooms with very elegant 1920 styled decor. It was very odd but good odd. Myself and my friend were late though - we just couldn't find the venue and were walking down around for ages. We eventually got there and we missed out on one set of drinks - wasn't a massive deal though. However, we then got another round of drinks made by the cocktail waiter and soon realised that we had, in the last hour had TWO drinks! Which we thought wasn't value for money at all - it wasn't busy really there was enough staff for them to deal with the amount of people in our party as well as the other people who were also there. One of the people in our group complained - The staff were extremely proactive and quick to apologise as a result we were moved upstairs to a different part of the venue and had a very personalised service. They also gave us more time added so we got an extra hour! This was pretty good of them to do to be honest and we were pleased to have been given this extra time. However - WE ALL GOT WRECKED! ! ! I couldn't even see straight when I was walking home. It was pretty bad - So make sure you drink lots of water through drinks - It just hit me all of a sudden and I had no control of my legs!

If you have got Gin on the mind, this is where you need to be, turning up with tasty tipples…read more I'm not a massive Ginaholic however I walked by and the ambience grabs you from the street and entices you to come inside. The decor is sublime and each table has a telephone to call your order through to the bar or call another table. The menu is extensive to say the least, I had Bathtub Gin and Fevertree Toinic. It was divine. Gin served in a double measure. When in Rome! I will defiantly be back soon for a flight board 3 Gins, 3 Toincs and 3 nibbles to choose from. I'm G'n'T-ing it!

Went here recently for a quick drink before dinner, and was seriously impressed. Having recently…read morediscovered a liking for gin I thought this would be the perfect place to go to and I was not disappointed. This bar works in a different way to most bars in the sense you do not go to the bar and order your drinks. Placed on each table is a an old retro phone. Once you have browsed the menu of gins and various tonics you dial "0" on the phone and speak to the helpful bar staff who will take your order. You can even call other tables if you so desire, although they wont take your order! The venue itself is beautifully designed and made me think I was in Moulin Rouge! There are a couple of downsides to this bar though, they have a signal blocker therefore preventing people using their phones inside. Whilst it can be annoying going out and seeing everyone on their phone, that is up to the group of people and not the venue to decide and I also felt everything was on the expensive side. If you order 2 G&T's you won't get change from £20! And if you are not a fan of gin then beer is over £6 for a pint. I would go back here again as I think it's a quirky venue but it won't be a regular jaunt.

There is alot of effort that goes into the drinks and the wait is beyond worth it. My favorite is the Beekeepers Punch with gin, honey water, lemongrass, lime and peach bitters. If you are feeling a Sex in the City moment they offer a Bath tub of Champagne for a mere 6500 pounds which includes 120 bottles of champagne and a night stay in the Penthouse. Whatever your taste I highly recommend coming here for a brilliant cocktail. Cheers!!!

Its attempting to attract the great and the good of Brighton, its uber swish decor looks straight out of Star Trek with metallic walls and orb fish bowls. Its a great spot for special events or occasions as it has the atmosphere if a central London celeb hot spot, which of course entails amazing cocktails! At the weekend they have DJs giving it a more club vibe. Its deffo worth popping in as its so refreshingly different from the pubs and bars in that area, but don't wear jeans and be prepared to pay for the privilege.

Really nice inside, quite a lot of seating,a cosy little room down stairs. Great selection of drink, whatever your taste is. And in my eyes they played some of the best music i've heard in a bar for ages. Last night it was afro-latin music,if i had my way every bar would play this type of music!! Other nights are on as well.....check local press!!

My local and definitely one of my favourite drinking establishments in Brighton…read more It's regularly listed in the 'Brighton's Best Bars' lists floating around on the world wide web. It also makes a few craft beer pub lists too as it has a very long list of world and craft beers, mainly in bottles, to chose from. It may surprise a few but it also serves amazing cocktails. A craft beer place AND a good cocktail place under one roof!? Surely not! But yes, it definitely works, they do a mean Amaretto sour and Espresso Martini and some of the more unusual cocktails too. It's not table service though which I actually really like as it remains down to earth and has a local hangout vibe. It gets really busy at the weekends on Friday and Saturday nights and there's often a band on or a cool DJ playing Northern Soul over the weekend too. In the daytime it's really chilled out and the bar staff are always happy to chat to you and talk you through the latest beer/cocktail menu (or about anything really!). There's also seating outside but with the view of the top of St. James Street it definitely is a better view inside with its quirky decor. I lucked out with this place being my closest pub!
