This is an ideal place to sit and soak up the sun whilst watching the world go by- the location at the beginning of the North Lanes means that it's not right in the thick of it, but not too far off the beaten track. The food is simple and yummy. They do a great breakfast special- you can get crumpets, toast or a bagel with jam for only £1.25! They do all the usual teas and coffees as well as delicious smoothies. If you're in the mood for a treat, they also have a great selection of homemade cakes and the lunchtime options such as sandwiches and jacket potatoes are yummy too - the jacket with chilli is especially good. All in all the food is inexpensive, the service is really friendly and the location is great- what more could you ask of a café?

I really must try the goulash - I've seen other people try it and it looks very good. I would really like to give this place 95% instead of 100%, but I have to choose between 4 and 5 stars, so 5 it is. My only gripe is that, every now and then, they are a little disorganised, especially when it's busy. If you find you've waited 10 minutes for your food, you'd better enquire (though you won't have any trouble - the staff are pleasant). They have a newspaper rack (they're not one of these antisocial places that throw away newspapers), and a competent toilet. It's a good place for peoplewatching of the comings and goings in St James's Street. One curious thing is that I have never, ever seen anyone drink alcohol there although there are alcoholic beverages (Polish beers etc.) on offer . Maybe it's because I've only been there between about 11.00 and 14.00 - I don't know what happens later.

Hungarian Goulash and Bread: £4 Now, I'm used to London prices and I was shocked. Surely I coulnd't get a decent lunch for under a fiver anywhere? Well, yes actually I can. It's annoying that i have to go to Brighton to do it, but it still made me happy. The only other Goulash I've ever had was in a plastic cup from Eat. And you can guess how good that is. But here it was spicy but still full of flavour. (I hate it when cafes throw so much spice in food that you actually can't taste anything else). It was fantastic. It made me forget that it was pouring down with rain outside (shame, it had been sunny the day before). I even managed to feel revived enough to do some of the Times crossword. Blimey. And I was still shocked that it was less than a fiver. It's a great little cafe and the next time I'm in Birghton I'll be back. It's a shame Hungarian food doesn't make a big splash in London. It really should.

Being right in the Town centre has many advantages as it is easy to get to it. The staff is always friendly and their prices are really good. I would recommend this to those who might be passing by and want a quick bite without spending too much. Last time I came here, they had a meal deal, however, this was a while ago so I am not too sure whether they still do.

She rolled her eyes at my order change, tutted at me and threw my card back at me even though I held my hand out to take it from her. I couldn't believe how atrocious her behaviour was. I'll probably be giving this location a miss now and find another place to take refuge from the cold, it's just not worth the bad manners. Hot chocolate and coffee is ok though, really tiny selection of food in the evening (which is expected really).

This branch has a large queueing area with a selection of sandwiches - which always seem to be out of stock by the time i get there! A small selection of drinks and crisps. My boyfriend was disappointed with only one sausage and one rasher of bacon on his fry up, but I on the other hand found it refreshing to eat a fry up prettily presented and not dripping in grease. The prices aren't dirt cheap - you're looking at 6 quid for a fry up, plus a steep charge for extra items - this place offers a more civilised brekkie (see Gossip Cafe for the cheap and cheerful). I must pop in there again soon actually as last year there were free Quality Street's at the counter - always a welcome touch! I'm a fan of the tea too - okay there aren't a bijillion varieties and there isn't a tea leaf in sight, but it's served in a massive mug, builder style, just how I have it at home! The decor is cosy, with a range of sofas/tables/garden seating, and it's a nice place for a lazy sunday morning - all in all, well worth a visit (check out the specials too as there're occasionally discounts on the breakfasts).

I went in for a cup of tea yesterday right when the sleet/rain deal started, and was instantly warmed by the 50s diner feel of the café (and the tea.) I was tempted (quite intensely - the plate was held right up to my face) by some apple cake with clotted cream for only a pound, but stuck with the tea. (I'm anticipating a wealth of Christmas sweets in the next few days.) The café offers sandwiches, soups, pastas and full breakfasts for quite low prices. The sandwiches started at £2.95, for instance. The quaint Specials board and chatty demeanour of the servers added to the diner feel. I also noticed an advertisement for a tarot card reader - she comes to The Street every Wednesday from 10am - 2pm. That might be interesting .... She's from the Psychic Network! Anyway, it's a great little café for tea and cake or a diner-esque meal.
