Then she took a break and my journey to find a new LMT was very difficult. If you've had a few bad massages, you know the pain isn't just physical. It can also affect you mentally/physically. I felt like I could get no relief and had to start acupuncture and PT (both are great) but always felt something missing (and my achy neck/shoulders/back is a constant reminder). So I was overjoyed (to tears amidst childlike giddiness) to stumble on Kathleen's reopening of Simple Gifts and in my fave little Old Town EC. Kathleen takes the time to understand your specific needs, comfort level, preferences, and any quirks. She takes the time to get acquainted thus giving you the best massage experience. And when I say that she takes the time, she does NOT take it out of your scheduled massage time! You get the time you booked. No one else has helped me feel so relaxed, sleep better, fall asleep while getting a massage and even have a wonderful emotional experience while being massaged. Pure bliss and enjoyment of letting all that -ish go. You know that knot that you just can't seem to get to and no one else seems to hit it either? So it is across the hall from the previous location if you've been years ago. There isn't heavy scents to cause allergic reactions, excessive oiliness, eccentricity or any of that. It is a cozy, simple, relaxing, and comfortable environment. If you like it warmer or cooler; dimmer/brighter, etc, simply ask. She is located at Mindful Wei Wellness Center in Ellicott City near the Howard County Courthouse. Monica is courteous, professional, and will listen to whatever areas you need work on and deliver it. Once you enter the room you'll hear soft meditation music playing and will relax you. The decor gives the place a zen feel and helps you prepare for your session. In terms of scheduling, yes, she is busy, and for good reason. Everybody wants to book her! The best way to schedule an appointment is through her squareup booking site. There you can see what dates are available months in advance and select those dates. I definitely recommend Monica. She gives the best massages works out all the crazy knots I have. Before the session, they gave us a form where we could choose the pressure level, mark areas to focus on, and note any areas to avoid, which I appreciated because it made the experience feel more personalized. When we entered the massage room, the therapist did not want me to stay in the room with my mother, even though there were clearly two seats available inside. At first, they said, "Someone is sitting there," which made no sense because it was only me and my mom in the room. I asked who would be sitting there, and they went quiet before repeating that I couldn't stay. I explained that my mother does not speak English and that I needed to remain there to help translate if necessary. Instead of showing understanding, the situation became awkward and uncomfortable right from the beginning. As a customer, especially when bringing a parent who cannot communicate easily, I expected a little more patience and professionalism. Despite that interaction, my mother did enjoy the massage overall. It was her first professional massage, so she did not have many expectations going in. The therapist did pay attention to the areas she marked on the form and seemed attentive to the pressure and focus points she requested. My mother said she felt relaxed afterward, and I was happy that she at least enjoyed that part of the experience. Unfortunately, the ending completely ruined it for me. After the massage ended, as we were walking out the door, the therapist stood in front of the door and blocked me from exiting to ask for a tip. I understand tipping culture and I normally do tip for good service, but making customers feel pressured or physically stopped before they can leave is extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. It left a very bad final impression on me, especially after the earlier issue about me staying in the room to help my mother communicate. Overall, while the massage itself was decent and my mother enjoyed it, the customer service and handling of the situation made the experience feel uncomfortable and stressful rather than relaxing. For a place that provides services meant to help people unwind, I think they should work on making customers feel respected and at ease from start to finish. We will not be returning. I would only come here if I spoke Chinese, came alone, and don't mind tipping bad service. ‍

I was under the impression that they were more expensive than other places but once I began my membership I realized I was completely wrong. I automatically pay each month for a 60min massage and I can add additional massages at the membership rate if I get impatient and need another massage inbetween my regular appointments. I accidentally scheduled my appointment with Joe when I made my initial appointment and am so glad for that! He is amazing! When I say accidentally, I just mean that I intended to schedule with a female therapist but then selected an appointment time on Joe's schedule. They called me to confirm if that was okay and I just rolled with it. I have been seeing him at least once a month ever since. I have been getting massages since before I even had a license. Joe is the most consistent therapist I ever had. I prefer deep tissue massages and I get just that...for the entire 60 minutes unlike some massages where only here and there feels good. Joe is professional and always checks in before each session to determine if there are any specific spots he should focus on. Prior to leaving I always get my next appointment on the calendar. The customer service here is great. Because they are super small and don't always have someone at the desk, I typically have to leave a message when calling. I always receive a call back within the hour. I have had to call to reschedule an appointment or two and never had an issue. I highly recommend checking them out. If you are a deep tissue person, give Joe a try!
