Update to my review; this is apparently the policy that massage envy has in place which to me is an unacceptable business practice. Their manager did call me and explain that everything I was told is correct and did not seem to really care. So, I will not be continuing to do business with them any further and they will lose my wife as a customer as well. Bad policies and no desire to do anything about it has caused the entire situation and loss of business. The customer service staff is horrible and the "policies" that the business has are ridiculous. I have been a member for over a year and not had too much of a problem. I pay each month and get my massages. Well this last month my membership fee was not paid and I have 1 1/2 credits left. Enough for a 90 minute massage. I had said 90 minute massage scheduled and was told that I couldn't use the credits I have already paid for because my account is suspended due to the lack of monthly payment (there was fraud on my card and the card was blocked. Plenty of money to pay the monthly service charge, just haven't gotten my new card yet). In order to use those credits I would have to pay the monthly fee and then my account would be unsuspended. Then I can cancel my account and have 60 days to use my credits. Confused yet?! Gotta pay them another month to have access to use credits that have already been paid for. Sounds like a bunch of garbage to me. The girl at the front desk was basically talking in circles and didn't understand the lunacy of such a policy. When I asked to speak to a manager apparently none of them are available to speak with either. So in short, Tara, or whatever her name is up front managed to tick off a regular customer enough for me to cancel my membership and take the time to post a review about how dumb their policy is. I'm currently waiting to see if a manager calls me back to try and keep me as a customer or if they are willing to let a regularly paying customer go. We shall see. read more

My experience with the massage therapists are usually always good! However I don't like how the business locks you in on a contract for atleast a year in order to receive the "member price" also, aromatherapy is extra when back in the day it was included at literally any place- it's a scent in the air?! some of the front desk people come off as snobby especially one lady in particular who seems to be there days and mornings- not sure her name. Anyways, I heard from a therapist they don't pay their therapists a decent wage so I always try to give cash tips! I have been a loyal customer for a couple years now and have not had any issues until now. I had an appointment back in July and someone (not me) booked another appointment for the following month. They called me the day of this appointment and I let them know I was at work and didn't make the appointment to begin with. I always book online and the week of. I have never booked in person and asked her to look back at my history. She basically said there was nothing she could do and was going to not return the credit they took from me. Great service! I usually try to get a massage every few weeks! They are great with COVID precautions and require masks of employees and patrons. They do a temperature check upon entering the building. They go thru a series of questions in order to see if you are a risk to others. Once thru to the massage, you can take your mask off while face down during your massage. But need to wear it while face up. read more

Mothers Day gift from my son was 60 minute facial and 90 minute massage. I physically went there to book my appointment as I wanted to make sure I could ask questions before selecting right massage therapist. They were just lovely and they booked my massage first, so I could have my facial directly following; allowing me to stay in same rooms with continuity. Perfect. Massage was excellent. I'm a massage snob and I must say, Lauren was great! She really was tuned in to exactly what my body needed. I was amazed at her seamless ability to add massage oil during massage totally keeping the flow of massage. It's an art...really. I teased her that I think she had "pod dispensers" in her fingertips LOL. Chereece did my facial and it was so lovely, as was she. I could tell she really enjoys her clients. My face glowed all day!!! I did not sign up for the massage club at the end and felt zero pressure to do so. I likely will after the summer though . Only wish they sold the amazing robe I used! I got a messaging system so I left a voice mail with my request and left my number. After 2 hours I had not heard from them so I called again and got their voice mail again. I didn't leave another message. I called again 2 more times at hourly intervals and got voice mail each time. I went to their website and there was a link to schedule an appointment. I clicked on the link to schedule my appointment and it instructed me to fill out the form below. The only problem was, there was no form below. I'm no expert, but I've had plenty of massages in my life. I know what's good, and what's not. Unfortunately, for me, this wasn't good. I called over to this ME location on a whim... I had a couple hours of childcare one afternoon, and called to see if they had any availability. I figured I might as well get the most out of my "first timers" discounted price and scheduled an hour and a half ($58 I think) with the only person available, Ernie. I arrived early as requested to fill out some paperwork. They asked how I liked my massage, I both wrote down and told the gal deep pressure. She was extremely friendly--full marks for her customer service (I'm sorry I can't remember her name!). The lobby itself wasn't anything to write home about. Certainly not like walking into a spa... more like going to a veterinarian's office? I don't mean that to be a put down, it was clean, smelled nice, and small. And frankly I don't care in the least what the place looks like as long as the massage is good. The front gal offered me an upgrade of a sugar scrub on my feet for $10. Sure, why not. Ernie came out to get me, he was reserved but friendly. The massage room itself was very standard... clean, organized, small, good temperature. I spoke briefly with Ernie, let him know my trouble spots but in general I just like a lot of pressure. He left, I got undressed and assumed the position. Came back in, asked if I wanted to listen to the standard spa music (sure), and got to work. Right off, it was just a little weird. It was just so light and gentle. But not even in a massage kind of way, working the muscles. It felt mostly like someone just rubbing lotion into my skin. It tickled, and it was uncomfortable. I spoke up and asked him if he could apply more pressure. He said sure and applied only slight more weight--but only for a few minutes then it was back to as before. Again, less massage and more of "rubbing in". I love massages. LOVE massages. An hour and a half for me is a huge luxury, and to me it feels like 10 minutes that just speed by. In this case, I was bored. I don't think this has ever happened to me in a massage. Over 20 years and hundreds of massages, I've never just "wanted it to be over". I feel terrible saying this, but it is exactly how I felt in the moment. I was so disappointed, it felt like a waste of money--but even more so was the time; it's very hard to get away that long, as a working mom. The sugar scrub was also anti-climatic. The whole thing lasted about two minutes. He put it on, rubbed it around for about 15 seconds, and then wiped off with wet towels. I thought "$10 for this?" When we were done, I got dressed and said thanks and left quickly to pay my bill. The front desk gal asked how I liked the sugar scrub and I was honest, it was so quick I didn't really think it was worth the money. She was apologetic and took it off the bill. $58 +$10 tip and I was out the door. Most times when I see negative reviews about massage, it's because the person didn't like the massage AND didn't communicate their preferences. In this case, I don't know what else I could have done--I mentioned my preference on the phone when I made the reservation, when I got there (to the front desk gal and on the paperwork), and to the therapist himself (before and during the massage). All this said, take it with a grain of salt. Clearly my experience is related to a specific person and their style. The reason I went to this location in the first place was that I saw there were a lot of great reviews, with many good therapists mentioned by name. If it weren't a 'spur of the moment' thing, I certainly would have picked of those mentioned by name. There was nothing in the customer service from the front desk or the facility itself that would prevent me from going back again. So, do your research and plan ahead, and I will hope your visit goes better. read more

I happened to be in town on a Monday and thought I'd treat myself to a massage. However, every spa I called was either booked, closed, or had no therapists in that day - probably not surprising for the beginning of the week, but a little frustrating when you're on the go with no access to Internet to look up reviews or prices. Finally I found these folks in the phone book and called them; they were able to fit me in that day, and their prices seemed surprisingly low. It made more sense once I arrived; they work on a first-one's-cheap, subscribe-to-our-service model. It might well have worked, too, if I hadn't been thoroughly unimpressed by the actual experience. The atmosphere could be charitably described as "nondescript" (and less charitably as "blandly corporate"). No decorations, forgettable music, no real personalization at all. All of that might have been forgivable, as the therapist obviously knew what she was doing, but - continuing the theme of no personalization - *she wouldn't talk to me*. I've had massages where the therapist told me in advance they prefer quiet, and that's one thing. But she struck me as a naturally chatty sort of person, except that whenever she started to contribute something to the conversation, she bit her tongue and shut up instead. (I can only assume there's a corporate policy against talking with the clients, which seems frankly bizarre to me; it's a people-oriented job, which means that part of the work is reading the clients' desire for social interaction - or lack thereof - and responding appropriately.) I left her a nice tip anyway, and I can only hope she's gotten a job at a place more deserving of her talents. Needless to say, I wasn't very tempted when they offered me a deal on their subscription service afterwards. read more

I can move! I scheduled a last minute appointment last Sunday due to some right leg and hip pain I was experiencing from my boxing class. Even though it was last minute the entire experience was totally awesome. My massage therapist did a fantastic job focusing on the troublesome areas. When I walked in I had a mild limp just from my muscles being so tight. By the time I left I could bend, stretch and move freely without experiencing any pain. I've been here a few times in the past and had similar experiences I just never took the time to write a review. This visit was well worth taking the time to write a review and share my positive vibes. I'll definitely be going back to this location and scheduling a massage with the same therapist. He really knew what he was doing. The only downside to visiting massage envy is there sales pitch at the end where they try and get to join a monthly program where they try and deduct money from your paycheck every month. Evidently you get a massage a month at a reduced rate. I've heard the sales pitch before but their approach has become more passive so i didn't ding them any stars. read more

My hubby got me this massage coz he said I deserve one. I got here fill out some paper work since its my first time. As I handed my stuff I was told to take a seat and wait for my masseuse. I was expecting for the front desk lady to come and explain ti me what I will be getting and what I should expect, but none of that ever happened. Then my masseuse came out to grab me. My first impression of her is not very welcoming, like she doesn't wanna be there. She looked glum and not a smile in her face (but i found out later that she's having some sinus problem, so she feels a little under the weather). I was then led to my room and given instructions. Background music is so relaxing, which i liked so much from a place like so. I got the one hour massage and the foot scrub. It felt like the massage just zoomed away coz i fell asleep (and snored a little..lol) That's a great indication that i am very relaxed and loving the treatment. I also told her my problem spots and she really did focused on those which is very awesome. After my massage, she gave me a pamphlet indicating all the things she did and led me to check out. The front desk lady afterwards apologized to me for not getting all the information early on coz she said the place got busy. I understood the situation smiled and said it's fine I made another appointment to come back to this place and wanted the same girl who did my massage. She was just my cup of tea and i am very comfortable having her do it. I really like this place and will think about getting a membership in which they offer with great benefits. read more

I have heard mixed reviews about Massage Envy. I tried it out for the first time a few days ago over the holiday my family all bought me gift cards to Massage Envy. They all went at once to get the massage card and apparently the promotion that has been running this month if you buy $125 worth of gift cards you get a free 30-minute upgrade on a massage an hour or longer. Well, my family all did by more than $125 worth. However, they did not give them the 30 minute upgrade because they all bought their cards individually although at the same time. You would think an establishment understanding it is all holidays and that a family was there buying gift cards individually to give to one person they would honor that special. I was told about it whenever my gift cards were given to me so I ask about it when I went in. Well, the representative messaged her manager and apparently the excuse that we got was the corporate office was writing them hard about who the issue the gift cards to. I would think the corporate offices main objective was to retain and leave a customer satisfied and wanting to return. I was buying gift cards the same day as well because prior to this experience I had agreed with another co-worker to get one of our co-workers a gift card to Massage Envy and I was picking up the $125 gift card to give them and get the promotion. They were fine giving me$125 gift card to give to someone else. However, even though they could clearly see that all of the gift cards were purchased at the exact same time and they were over the $125 value the management of this establish willing to honor a request that could have encouraged a customer to switch to Massage Envy as their primary therapist agency. However, I am going to finish out my gift cards and I'm going to continue with the same Spa I've used for years. I get one massage a week and I have been getting that for years. I did however decide to use one of their other promotions since I had such a high-value and gift cards they were offering a membership for 90 days and I decided to do that membership and buy it with the gift cards I bought 125 where I could use the upgrade given for myself I'm future massages and the gift cards that were given to me I'm going to gift to our co-worker and the amount of $125. The sad thing is the reason my family chose to try Massage Envy was the fact that that promotion was running and they know I typically get a two hour massage and they thought it would be beneficial. However, when they refused to honor at they worse kind of SOL because they had to buy the gift cards because a spot I typically use a closed already for the season. I can tell you that once my gift cards expires and this 90-day deal I will not use Massage Envy again. However, I can say that my therapist was amazing his name is Arnie yeah and he was very good with his hands he did what he describes as sneaky deep. I like a mixture of deep tissue and relaxation massage Swedish type combined together. He did it better than anyone, I have ever met. If this was the only factor in my decision I definitely would have stayed with Massage Envy. However, it is important for Massage Envy to know a great therapist is only one factor when a customer chooses to become a long-term customer of their business. Also, my friend Christian and I went to have a massage at their sister location days before and he made to request that they work on his legs in his glutes because he was having severe pain and muscle spasms and they work on his feet and briefly work on his back. The therapist didn't work on his glutes at all just skimmed past his weights did not do his feet I'm focused almost 100% on the massage on his back and shoulders when he asked for that to be the least. Plus, he is slightly a larger man and he was forced to hold his head up during the massage because they wouldn't give him a pillow after he requested hello twice. What he did was pull the headrest off an attempt to use that and that didn't even reaches head that kept falling off and the therapist would just leave it in the floor so when I would look over at him he looks so uncomfortable because he was holding his head off of the bed and he was clearly uncomfortable I could tell from my bed and His Hands kept moving and the therapist would put his hands on his hands and tell him to relax. He asked for a Swedish massage and they gave him more of a deep tissue I swear to God he said how or ouch 15 or 20 times during that 90 minute massage. The put us in a a couple's room which was not requested we were just request that they schedule is at the same time and I am assuming that they thought we wanted a massage together and that was far from the truth. So, this made my massage awful even though my massage therapist was decent not as good as Arnie however still very good. Christian ask that a manager follow up, he said manager never called. Well...there were always little issues, and they eventually escalated: appointments canceled by Massage Envy at the last minute because someone "didn't feel well" and was going home and "unfortunately" no one else had openings (this happened to me multiple times in a row), or no availability for weeks in any of the many times I could go, or the extreme turnover (I would find someone who does a great job, next time they're gone and I have to try out more people looking for one that works for me, and wasting my massages with therapists that are a poor fit until I do). And I'm locked into a membership that I couldn't use for what seemed like a year, and having problems with them not having enough staff (because if they did, I wouldn't have so much trouble even trying to make an appointment) got old ages ago. And there were these weird glitches in the piped-in music that were creepily distracting (although that FINALLY seems fixed), and the prices keep going up, although the service keeps going down (I get massages regularly from multiple places: Massage Envy is the ONLY place that no longer offers water when my service is over, and even before covid it was just a cup. The other--much less expensive-- places I've been in the last 2 months gave me my own bottle straight out of a mini fridge). Today was the breaking point though. My 2-hour massage was punctuated most of the time by the noise of DENTAL DRILLS/GRINDERS from the dentist office next door! Dental. Drills. Does that sound relaxing to you? No, me either. The therapist was super nice and explained that because of the room we were in (that whole side shares a wall with the dental lab), there wasn't a way around it. He was kind and apologized profusely, and I understood. I wasn't happy about it, but it is what it is. When the checkout person asked how my massage was, I was chill about it, and bantered a bit, with a smile saying next time I'd check which room I was assigned beforehand so I could skip if it was along that wall. That would have been the end of it, but then another person came out of the office and invited herself into the conversation, talking down to me and "explaining how things work", and that they assign the rooms to the therapists and they "really can't accommodate" room changes (which is not at all what I was saying, so clearly, she was only half eavesdropping), and essentially, that I would just have to deal with it. I got a bit irked at that point, and my response was maybe I just shouldn't come back to that location (because paying that much money for a massage ought to get a better experience than at a bargain basement place with bargain prices--you get what you pay for, right?), and her immediate response was "that's completely fine" before she promptly turned around huffed herself back into the office. And then the checkout chick was snarky with me after that too. So, all that relaxation I took the time out of my day to get after a super upsetting doctor appointment? Didn't really happen, and the little bit I did get was dashed by the nosey backroom person who dropped into my world just long enough to be upsetting and incorrect in her ability to follow a conversation AND dismissive on top of it. I won't be going back, and as I choose the places for our medical support group to subsidize massages at (and we subsidize 54 memberships at Massage Envy: I just checked), that will end one by one as each person uses up any credits they have. I made new arrangements with a different massage/self care service in town, and we'll shift everyone over to them. Cancer and Lupus and Celiac's and Crohn's patients have enough problems without having to deal with crappy experiences from a place that's supposed to help them feel better. I HEARTILY do not recommend. You can do better at better prices all over town, and get treated better while you're at it. read more
