    Boston Sightseeing - Double-decker hop-on hop-off bus in Boston

I rode on the top deck and was stung by a yellow jacket/ hornet about 10 minutes into the ride. None of the drivers had any ointment -just a bandaid in the first aid kit; which was unfortunate and they were rather unconcerned about my sting. I don't know if the yellow jacket was up in the corner or under one of the seats on the top deck (maybe someone should spray and inspect the upper deck periodically). A young, well-dressed man named Eli, narrated the tour, and he was excellent. I thought he had a script but NO he did not. He was very knowledgeable, and he asked the driver to adjust his speed in certain areas so he could bring out certain highlights. He was very considerate of his passengers. KUDOS to him! The hop on hop off part didn't go so well because that day the Kings March took place on the Commons, and streets were blocked off and we had to walk to a pickup spot that wasn't affected by the police blockades. So, despite the bee sting and the protesters, the ride was pretty good!

Turns out the Duck Tours were tours in semi-aquatic buses that mix history, jokes, and sightseeing. We also got to go into the water and folks took turns driving the duck boat. What was delightful about our tour was our captain who entertained us with magic tricks, punny jokes, dad jokes, and history. We quacked at passerbys, other duck tours, recent graduates, kids in hi-vis vests. He pointed out the marines organized in a park with the Osprey and other planes. I left my knowledge of American history in elementary school, so everything was super fascinating to me. I thought my honey would enjoy this being a historian and all but he didn't care for the jokes, which I thought were the best part. Oh well. Worth a tour when you're in the Boston area!

Our host boasted over 4000 duck boat tours, and I certainly didn't question his knowledge of Boston's history. However, I wish we heard more of the history he was clearly an expert on. Most of what I remember from the tour is him going on with personal anecdotes, telling stories that sounded made up, and interacting with a large family on board. I'm sure that family had a memorable and special experience, but for everyone on the other end of the many, many times he stopped to talk and joke with that group, we felt like outsiders. We felt downright ignored a couple times- once he asked if anyone was celebrating anything, I raised my hand to say it was my fiancé's birthday, but he once again fixated on the group he had a report with. The same thing happened when he allowed a group to drive the boat on the river, we volunteered but no use. For the steep price, I just think there are better ways to learn the history and see the city. However, the sunset view of the river is pretty.

Mobsters and Lobsters is a mafia story laden trip that ends up at the south shore popular lobster eatery. Although Mother Nature and the traffic in downtown Boston decided yo play games with us the owner who's name actually is Tom Collins, started off with a quick quip yo get the folks settled and the first round of beverages were begun. Tom brings us around to the spectacular locations and spots where specific mobsters from the years past were doing their cunning and not so cunning work. Tom's knowledge for this thoroughly interesting topic is unmatched. His serious knowledge of the history of other significant historical places and events speckled with his dry "Bastan" humor. Made this trip extremely worthwhile. The duration was four hours long which also included a Lobster dinner at a local eatery on the south Boston harbor. I haven't laughed this hard in a long while. If you are in beantown for a spell. I highly recommend you and you motley crew join Tom for an interesting alcohol added trip back in time. I am positive your jaws and cheeks will be sore from laughing so hard. Be aware this is an "R" rated trip! But very worth it. Thanks Tom for making this a great memorable evening.

I'm so glad we did because it was a fun and interesting experience. The actors are in character and passionate about their roles which makes it fun. They also ask people from the audience to have a speaking part which makes it interactive. It was neat going on one of the ships and kids threw tea over the side. It was interesting to hear the story of the day, what happened to some of the people who participated and how they kept the story alive for so long. Loved seeing one of the crates that was thrown over and how families kept it and some tea safe. Everyone in our group had fun and enjoyed the experience. It's definitely worth it. Abby's Tea Room at the end is nice too.

Who could say no to that? It starts out in a meeting room where everyone is given a profile card of a real person from the period. My wife even got a speaking role. Then thy take you out to one of the two ships where you get to tour the ship as well as throw tea boxes and loose leaf tea overboard. You then move inside again for some video presentations as well as a chance to see actual artifacts from the tea party like an actual tea crate. Had no idea that even still existed. And you finish off with a gift ship and cafe with some darn good cookies. Overall a fun and educational experience.
