I love going for a hike here. Lots of good paved, or wooden deck trails. It's a benefit for the area. I found some colorful graffiti on the buildings that once were a water treatment facility. The trails run along a creek, so that's always nice. We saw a kinglet on our walk this day.

My kids love this place, so much stuff to play with and running around the entire time .

I really enjoyed my time at this park. I've only been once and from what I gathered there's a children's playground, walking trail & tennis center. It was definitely pretty hot outside when I went but the trees offered a good amount of shade on the trail and there was a nice breeze. Not your typical park trail where the sun is beaming down on you. This a great park for biking! I noticed there were a few trail options I only tried South Peachtree creek trail which was very nice and not challenging. You are walking over a bridge the majority of the time in this direction which goes over the creek. Once I got to the street which I assumed was the end it was a little unclear whether the trail had ended.. maybe I'm not park savvy enough but i just turned around at that point. The park wasn't too crowded for a weekday evening which was great. I look forward to trying the other trails!

Awesome playground. They have this gigantic tower for kids to climb up an the slide down. One of the nicer parks I have ever been to. Worth a 20 minute drive to visit this park. If you have kids that are under 12, this will be a hit for them. Parents can relax. Plenty of parking, its clean, park is well maintained, Restrooms are clean, plenty of seating and pavilions for rental if needed. I came by because I have 3 Pokemon trainers in the house and after the 5th Great Nest Migration, this park became the only Charmander nest in and around ATL. There were plenty of parking, and that helped manage the crowd. Plenty of folks were walking about, searching and catching these elusive creatures. I am also happy to see that there is a strict no-smoking policy. Which is great , cos all the kids are around as well. How many Charmanders.. well, about 10-12 were nabbed in 1.5 hours. Come get em before the next Great Nest Migration....

What a beautiful park to take the kids. I am so lucky to have Mason Mill Park within distance. It is even a 2-3 minute walk from the Toco Hill Avis G. Williams Library. At this park there is ample space for kids of all ages. There are two play areas divided for bigger and smaller kids. Plenty of climbing, running, jumping, swinging activities for children. The parents were also friendly. The park has walking trails and a center - something I would definitely explore more. Excited to keep bringing my kid here.

I really stumbled on Mason Mill Park, as I started at Medlock park, walked the South Peachtree Creek Trail (which connects these two parks) and got to Mason mill, saying what's this place??? Mason mill is one of the more family friendly parks i've come across in the Decatur area. Front and center is a large children's play area, garden, tennis courts and recreation center where they hold classes for kids, senior citizens, etc. In addition to all of the great fun I mentioned, this also connects up to the peachtree creek trail, which is about a 1.2 mile paved and boardwalk trail, that meanders in forested area, parallels a creek, and goes behind and through residential area. Also along the main trail, you can see little stringer trails that go in and out of the woods, to creek beds, to forests, and other hidden trails that make this a really fun stretch of a walkway. Moving slightly away from the Mason Mill park foot print, the portion of the peachtree creek trail that connects to Mason Mill is far more photo friendly than the end at Medlock Park i'd say. Just a few steps away from Mason mill sets you up on a nice overpass walkway over train tracks that stretch as far as the eyes can see, and just a few more steps away is graffiti that misses nothing, not even the trees, and it's all kinda cool to see! For all you Pokemon go fans, there were several players spinning around with their phones out, trying to catch 'em all (or they were horribly lost). End of the day, Mason Mill is a park that has a bit for everyone from kid, to adult, to athlete, to Pokemon catcher, and you really should go check it out!

My first time and it was extremely enjoyable! I loved the way this trail is designed an amazing maze!

This is more for the South Peachtree Creek Trail, which runs from Mason Mill Park to Medlock Park. While the concrete path is nice for a stroll, I like the off-path trails. In some places, you can imagine you're not even in a city. Also, the old water treatment building ruins have some awesome artwork painted on them.

I don't know how or why, but this is the best small park I have seen in Atlanta so far. It's uber modern, everything is new and the kids go Nutts when they come here. They have rock climbing, swings, tunnels, games and extremely well kept grounds. What I liked the most is that for a brief moment I did not feel like I was in segregated Atlanta. This park has to be one of the most diverse places I have been to in Atlanta. It was Dope to see kids from all ethnic backgrounds playing together, in a Beautiful kumbaya-ish atmosphere. Having lived in NYC,London and SF to name a few real cities, this was a great surprise.

Awesome playground (two of them really). Plenty of free parking. Fairly convenient off 75 if you don't live in the area, which I don't.

This is a beautiful and well grown space alongside a very busy artery that takes commuters to and from downtown Atlanta. Shade trees, benches, a creek-side trail and even a bridge. The other five are grassy 'pastoral' parks, and are fine parks in their own right. Along with Lake Claire Park, Deepdene is my 'home' park - I live very near. While Lake Claire hosts my go-to tennis court, Deepdene is where I go to pretend I'm not in the city but rather out hiking in the Georgia forests. It's pretty good at aiding in that deception with lots of very tall trees, interconnecting (if short) dirt paths and a creek running through the axis. Deepdene used to be a bit of an urban twilight zone - before it was developed, except for the traffic noise (which is considerable from Ponce), walking its undeveloped and sketchy trails really was like being in the woodlands. While I did enjoy that experience, I must say that the Olmsted Linear Park Alliance did a good job making Deepdene a little more neighborhood friendly. The paths are thankfully not paved but are easily walk-able without risking ankle turns. The several sturdy bridges are not only pleasing to the eye but carry you over the more hazardous parts of the terrain. And there are a lot of botanical and historical information signs scattered about. I like the development. On the eastern end you'll find a large, flat grassy area (the Meade) suitable for tossing a football or what have you. Kite flying? Does anyone do that anymore? You'll find many benches along the paths where you can stop and just enjoy the setting. No parking except along the streets, but, frankly, this is meant to be a neighborhood park for the local residents. Not that y'all aren't welcome. :)

I've…read morebeen avoiding running and walking long distances but since I had a free day and my leg was feeling good, I decided to explore Herbert Taylor Park for the first time. The entrance to the park is at Pasadena Ave NE & Beech Valley Rd NE. There's another entrance along Beech Valley that I saw. I basically wandered around for an hour which was pretty fun. I did end up at the same spot multiple times and had to backtrack, but that's the fun of wandering! There are creeks that run through the park that you can haphazardly cross and giant fallen tress you can jump from. (Yes, I did both these things. Can you see how I could have strained my calf muscle?) I also randomly came across a mini beach area with sand and all! From within the park, I could still hear the sounds of construction happening outside the park, but once I got a little deeper in, I could only hear the sound of the trickling creek and critters in the trees. It was quite nice. The paths were clearly defined but vary in width (0.5 - 5 feet wide) and some were covered in foliage which I imagine could get slippery, so be careful. The entire park was very flat once you pass the initial incline/decline coming into or going out of the park's entrance. I highly recommend coming at least 2 hours before sundown as there is a lot of tree coverage which obscures the sun a lot. I also recommend following random trails and allowing yourself to get lost in the park. The park isn't big at all so it's fun to walk down one path and backtrack and wander down another path. I do not recommend coming during or after a big rain. I read on a warning bulletin that the creeks kind of overflow and get super crazy during/after rains and dogs (it's a dog-friendly park) and humans can get swept away, which I am sure would not make for a very fun stroll! I'm sure it also gets very muddy and slippery. I did not notice any poison ivy or oak, but I will update my review in 24-48 hours if the status of my skin changes.

I wanna say this is one of the best running trails around Decatur from all the parks I've been to. I ran late so I wasn't in there for long maybe 45 minutes, but I'll come here again and try to get on the other trails. From what I saw a rock path across a stream, trails, and board walk make this a multifarious path. As mentioned in another review, there is no parking, so I just parked along park street, directly across from Ira B, and took a walk. What I found was a lot of orange construction barrier alongside either side of the trail, which really was about a half mile one way in trail, that dead ends at a nearby creek. I may have come to this park a bit to late, because I saw the following signs: "Temporary Trail access....use park at your own risk", "Trail closed ahead...no park access", "construction zone...no trespassing" so either there's about to be major work done to the park, or I dunno what. I did note several creek dry beds that may or may not be trails, although I didn't go down them. There were large cobblestones along the trail, which helped to keep mud off of your shoes with the surrounding soggy ground, and while there are benches, they're towards the entrance of the park only. If you live in the neighborhood and want a little more nature in your walk, absolutely check it out, but I wouldn't make a special trip to seek Ira B Melton Park out...not until it officially reopens anyway
