I bought a set of wheels on ebay, Reynolds Assault Limited, with powertap g3 hubs for my Campy equipped Dogma. They were great until I broke a spoke, and another, and then a third in 6 months. With a double century around the corner, I didn't want to take any risks, so I brought my wheels to Ryan. After checking with the manufacturer, he determined that Powertap built the wheels not Reynolds, and that they used pillar spokes that were too short. I had Ryan relace the wheels with new spokes and internal nipples. I went with his recommendation of brass nipples and sapim cx-ray spokes. When I received the wheels back, they were flawlessly clean, and my cassette was like new. He also included extra spokes and a one year warranty, just in case something went wrong in the future. I wanted to wait until after riding the wheels a while before I reviewed his work. Well I've ridden them, and as Ron Burgundy would say, "top notch." I have put well over 1000 miles on the wheels, on all sorts of sketchy roads, including 3 double centuries, and they have performed flawlessly. I'm a bunny hopping, gravel seeking, dirty, dirty roadie, and I'm not a teeny dude, and these wheels have stood up to everything I have thrown at them. In addition to my own experience, Ryan has repaired a few of my clubmates bikes, and everyone has been impressed with his work. One mentioned that his di2 bike shifted better than new after Ryan had tuned it up. I highly recommend Ryan Mason to anyone who really loves their bike. He is clearly passionate about his work and a real craftsman when it comes to building fast and reliable wheels. Thanks Ryan. read more

Mason Cycle Werks - Great work, fair price, makes my bike look fast. Happy customer. - Bike Repair/Maintenance Near Me

Found Ryan online when I was looking for a mechanic in a pinch and needed a quicker turnaround than my local shop could offer... and now I think I will be going with him from here on out. Ryan was extremely easy to work with, great quick communication via text and phone, no attitude and happy to explain things, and always got my approval with cost unlike others who sometimes take initiative that is not always desired. Even coordinated to drop my bike off at my work during my lunch break so I could ride it that evening. Cost is always a question, but prices were more than fair considering how much work I had done to my mountain bike, basically a complete overhaul including rebuilding both front/rear shock... and the high quality parts he upgraded me to for minimal change in cost rather than just sticking with the basic stock replacements was a really nice bonus. Bike rode better than I can ever remember. After talking to Ryan it is clear he has been doing this for awhile and really knows his stuff in both road and mountain realms. I have complete confidence in him and will be happy to use again. He also does wheel builds, but I was already set on that with my i9's. Thanks Ryan! read more

Mason Cycle Werks - Thanks for getting the work done in time for my trip. Bike rode soooo good. - Bike Repair/Maintenance Near Me

Ryan really treats your bike right. I had picked up an old vintage ItalVega bike and used it as my daily rider for about a year until I decided I wanted to restore my bike that was falling apart. I'd take it in to some local bike shop for small repairs here and there but that place was expensive and sometimes I'd have to go back in because something wasn't done right. I took it to Ryan for a full restore. He really set me up. There were a few issues with the vendors he used for paint, but once it was back in his hands, Ryan delivered an amazing final piece. The bike rides great and looks incredible. read more

Where I'm from there aren't any good bike shops with a mechanic as good and as thorough as Ryan is. My bike was a mess. The front shifter was jammed, it needed new brake pads, tires and chain, and there was a lot of creaking noises. After I picked it up from Ryan, it was almost brand new! It was in better condition then when I purchased it. And the job was finished within a couple days of dropping it off. Ryan goes out of his way to explain every detail of what he will do to the bike, and answer every and all questions you have. For tune ups he also trues your wheels, polishes the brake trail, and does a wax finish for your bicycle. He went through and oiled all the pivoting parts on my bike, which got rid of all of the annoying creaking. He greased my seat post and the ball bearings in my hubs, and tightened all of my cables so they would be more responsive. All in all, Ryan has an amazing attention to detail, and will go all out to restore/tune your bike and treats it as one of his own. He is truly passionate about what he does, and really puts a lot of time and effort into each bike. Well worth the price, he's a tough mechanic to beat. read more

Ryan rules. Hands down. While I originally only needed a quick tune and some components added, he went the whole nine yards (obviously making sure I was okay with it first) and had the bicycle in better-than-new form! Seriously, it's never ridden this well before! He also found a stripped bolt in my headset cap and replaced it. He also replaced my spacers with really nice carbon fiber ones. 100% amazing service. Do not hesitate to get in touch with him. Ryan will treat your bike like royalty and you will love it even more when you get it back. I may even ask him to build the wheels to my next bike :) read more

I am hesitant to give this glowing review to Ryan... for purely selfish reasons. I consider him my personal mechanic and don't want to share. Regardless if he shares this same sentiment is irrelevant, the facts are he has built up 2 of my 4 steeds, and maintains all. I tinker and clean, but do not like to fuss, in other words, I prefer to ride hard and have an expert make sure my ride is functioning at its best. As you will read in the other reviews, he is meticulous in detail and quality and is up to date on all the new gear. His ability and knowledge is unequalled IMO. The LBSs in town have always done a nice job, but when I'm ready for a service, tune-up, upgrade or whatever, my first choice will always be... of course, my personal mechanic. read more

The mechanic/owner really knows what he is doing. Heck, he better! Ryan's been working on bikes for over 15 years and riding since who knows when. From day one, when I first stepped into the shop, the vibe I got from this place was really inviting. It wasn't like walking into Performance Bike or REI where I literally felt like a number. It felt more like a home than your regular bike shop. Before we even started looking at my bike, we sat down and talked for a while. He even offered me a beer! But this guy does it all, from cleaning/degreasing the chain, to fixing my drive train where the shifting is now spot on. He installs housing to the brakes and shifter cables and can true your wheels. He even helped me install my bike computer. After the first tune up, I don't go anywhere else to get my bike looked at. Prices are reasonable for the work, services and environment you are paying for. Worth every penny. Best investment to keep your bike running properly. read more

I moved to Long Beach in 2015 and was in need of a good bike mechanic for my 2011 Cannondale Evo. After joining one of the bike clubs (Velo Allegro) I was referred to Mason Cycle Werks by a friend. Ryan comes and picks up my bike whenever it is need of maintenance and he always does a top-notch job on my bike. He has always been very responsive and treats my bike like it is his own. Great guy and very trustworthy. I highly recommend him to work on your bikes. He also does a stellar job building custom wheels. You won't be disappointed. read more

I dug up my old Yelp account just so I could leave an awesome review for Ryan! I don't know much about bikes, but I had an old Schwinn Suburban I wanted fixed up to use for commuting between home/school/work (riding around 8 miles/day). I was referred to Mason Cycle Werks by a cyclist friend, and Ryan hooked it up! He was extremely friendly and approachable from the first time I contacted him. He picked my bike up from the house, quickly sent me an estimate within a few days, fixed up my bike within a week and delivered it back to my house. I was amazed with how much better it rode, smooth and sturdy. Plus, the price was reasonable and he provided an itemized invoice so I knew exactly what I was paying for. Probably some of the best customer service and professionalism I've experienced. So grateful! read more

Ryan (His name isn't Mason! That is his last name) did an amazing job of tuning up my bikes. He was quick and prompt and delivered more than he promised. He is very knowledgeable about bikes and made the best recommendations for me. After I got the service preformed, my tube busted (unrelated to his service) he actually made a house call and replaced the tube! What a guy and a great service overall. read more

I just received my bike back from a tune-up. Ryan is the owner and also the one that does the work. I've had my bike for several years and have been contemplating a tune-up, but you know how life takes you in different directions... one day you have the money and then you don't... other things just seem more important, well, until you get a flat and then you figure, it's time. I searched the web for a bike shop in Long Beach and through Yelp; I see how awesome the reviews are for Mason Cycle Works. I thought at first it was a bike shop and then after talking to Ryan on the phone it turned out to be that he at one time had a bike shop and now was doing the services from his garage. I have to say, I was incredibility fortunate to have found (Ryan) Mason Cycle Werks. The attention to detail was incredible to say the least... My bike was delivered to me as a NEW bike... the gears performed like new and he replaced the chain, my brakes used to sequel, but that was in the past, on more sequels or squeaks, my hand grips that used to move all the time... no more, fixed that too... my disk brake rotors were bent and that was fixed. My kick-stand was cracked and that was removed for safety and replaced. But that's not all; Ryan washed and detailed my bike! He delivered it to my front door and the experience felt, as if he was a friend I had known for a long time. Truly amazing technical and customer service! ... Beyond any doubt, highly recommend. read more

I was referred to Ryan by a bike club friend because I live in Long Beach. Ryan was super friendly and honest. Cool website, I scheduled a appointment online and he contacted me and scheduled a time to come pick up my bike for repair. HOW nice is that !!! When he brought my bike back in a few days he went thru all the details of his repair and why he did the things he did. I paid 60 bucks for a tune up, but felt like I got more. I would definitely recommend him, good guy. read more

Had such an awesome experience! Ryan was super honest and did amazing work. He even gave me advice on how to fix up a part of my bike when he could've done the work himself and made money on it. He's got a ton of experience and knowledge and was really great about explaining each step of the process to me. Personally, we'll never take our bikes to anyone but Ryan. His character, industry knowledge, and work ethic speak for themselves. read more

Ryan is very friendly and conversational, professional, and helpful. He certainly took those extra steps to make sure my bike was in great shape and gave me plenty of bike maintenance advice, even brought the bike to my apartment. Depending on how out-of-shape your bike is, you may spend a decent amount of money but very affordable for the work he does. He is very considerate and will work within your budget. He also sells various products; I purchased a wet chain lube. I definitely recommend that you give him call if you need a tune up or a full-scale maintenance. Ryan is an honest worker and you won't be disappointed. read more

Ryan is super knowledgeable and offers fantastic service and care for your bike. I'm always amazed by how awesome my bikes ride after Ryan has worked his magic. Also, he isn't a jerk. When I moved to Los Angeles from San Diego, I was sad. I simply couldn't find that "bike shop vibe" that I had in San Diego I want people who are working on my bikes to be real with me, to be invested in my bikes, and to be kind. I am so grateful to have found Ryan Mason. In the past two months he has built me a fresh Powertap mountain bike wheel and spruced up a new, custom cyclocross bike. Along the way, Ryan has been nothing but amazing. He has a passion for what he does, and he backs it up with genuine knowledge and professionalism. Most importantly, he's a great guy to chat with and a lot of fun. He's the type of guy to whom you want your money going. And, since he doesn't have a brick-and-mortar shop, you're getting better prices for expert service! My custom-built, fully bespoke rear wheel is AMAZING. It's stiff, compliant, and built for the long haul, just as I requested. Ryan responded to my emails along the way and accommodated all of my silly requests, updating invoices as well. His billing, which is done online, is flawless and simple, which makes it easy for me to go about my business, too. I will continue to utilize Ryan's services. Even though he is in Long Beach and I am in Lomita, his service and communication makes it feel as though I'm right across the street. Mason Cycle Werks gets 5 custom-built bicycle wheels for being incredible. read more

There's nothing like having complete trust in your bike mechanic... I met Ryan through the CSULB Cycling Team in which I was the most winning competitor for the past 2013 season. Whether I'm doing a complete build or in need of service for my road or mountain bike I wouldn't go anywhere else. Ryan does the job right with an attention to detail and an extensive knowledge of cycling maintenance. The rigors of racing both road and mountain does numbers to my bikes but Ryan always has the right tools and knowledge to address problems or noises. Not to mention, the turnaround time for my maintenance has been excellent. I sat down with Ryan as he replaced components and got my bike dialed in the evening before a race. He's a great mechanic and a great guy and I highly recommend his services to all of my friends. read more

I have been to a lot of local bike shops to get my bike worked on and none of them pay as much attention to detail as Ryan. He did a full tune up on my bike, which needed a lot of work, and did an amazing job. He let me know everything that he worked on, and answered any questions I had, and let me know what I could do to keep it running smooth on my own. He also ordered the parts I needed for a good price. He even cleaned the entire bike, and greased all the bearings and pivot points, making it look and work like new again. There is no other mechanic that I will take my bike to, Ryan does the best job that I have experienced. read more

I'll admit it. I have trust issues. I don't like to let other people work on my bikes. I've had a few bad experiences but I needed a new bottom bracket and I don't have the tools for that. Ryan was recommended to me so I went for it. It was awesome that he came to my house to pick up my bike but a little unnerving to watch someone I don't know drive away with my bike. All my fears were put to rest quickly. What an amazing job he did. I got an estimate of the things that needed to be done and the stuff that should probably be done. I also got a list of maintenance that should be done in the next several months. I had him do most of the recommendations but not all and there was no pressure to do everything. He even helped with a warranty issue. It was a quick turnaround and I got my bike delivered back to be running great. It was a great experience. I'll definitely be using him again. read more

Mason repair does not have a brick and mortar shop, but does offer drop off and pick up service which is very convenient. I had ignorantly left my bike outside for about a year, so the chains/gears had gotten pretty rusty. I was concerned that the cost of fixing my bike would exceed the cost of just buying a new one. I e-mailed Ryan about my dilemma and he promptly responded by asking me to send him some pics of my bike. Afterwards, he was able to give me a rough estimate of how much my repairs would cost and offered to pick up my bike shortly afterwards. When he had my bike, he was very thorough in explaining what he was planning to repair and the work was then completed within a week. I was very happy with the repairs (he even waxed my frame!) and the advice he provided afterwards for proper maintenance of the bike going forward. I would highly recommend Ryan Mason to anyone else in need of repairs. read more

Brought my bike over to Ryan for a etap installation since I was having trouble with my rear derailleur hanger. Service from Mason Cycle Werks is always top-notch. I would describe Mason Cycle Werks as a place where you would bring your exotic (hot rod / super car) bike to be tuned and serviced by the very finest, as compared to bringing it a local bike store. Ryan pays very close attention to the details with your bike as compared to other bike servicing shops. read more

I have experience as a rider, less with repairing bikes. So naturally I need a mechanic to do my repairs and tune-ups. I was in decent shape when I took it in, and It came out looking brand new. I mainly needed help with the shifting and after riding it after the tune-up, it was spot on. I got my bike back a couple days earlier than I expected. I loved the attention to detail he gave my bike. Overall, Ryan's an experienced mechanic who gave me a worthwhile tune-up. Very reasonable prices and extremely professional. I would recommend and will be in for a major service later down the line. read more

Awesome. Ryan is thorough and meticulous. He really takes time to get the bike in the right condition. Most certainly recommended.
