Found Ryan online when I was looking for a mechanic in a pinch and needed a quicker turnaround than my local shop could offer... and now I think I will be going with him from here on out. Ryan was extremely easy to work with, great quick communication via text and phone, no attitude and happy to explain things, and always got my approval with cost unlike others who sometimes take initiative that is not always desired. Even coordinated to drop my bike off at my work during my lunch break so I could ride it that evening. Cost is always a question, but prices were more than fair considering how much work I had done to my mountain bike, basically a complete overhaul including rebuilding both front/rear shock... and the high quality parts he upgraded me to for minimal change in cost rather than just sticking with the basic stock replacements was a really nice bonus. Bike rode better than I can ever remember. After talking to Ryan it is clear he has been doing this for awhile and really knows his stuff in both road and mountain realms. I bought a set of wheels on ebay, Reynolds Assault Limited, with powertap g3 hubs for my Campy equipped Dogma. They were great until I broke a spoke, and another, and then a third in 6 months. With a double century around the corner, I didn't want to take any risks, so I brought my wheels to Ryan. After checking with the manufacturer, he determined that Powertap built the wheels not Reynolds, and that they used pillar spokes that were too short. I had Ryan relace the wheels with new spokes and internal nipples. I went with his recommendation of brass nipples and sapim cx-ray spokes. When I received the wheels back, they were flawlessly clean, and my cassette was like new. He also included extra spokes and a one year warranty, just in case something went wrong in the future. I wanted to wait until after riding the wheels a while before I reviewed his work. Well I've ridden them, and as Ron Burgundy would say, "top notch." I have put well over 1000 miles on the wheels, on all sorts of sketchy roads, including 3 double centuries, and they have performed flawlessly. I'm a bunny hopping, gravel seeking, dirty, dirty roadie, and I'm not a teeny dude, and these wheels have stood up to everything I have thrown at them. In addition to my own experience, Ryan has repaired a few of my clubmates bikes, and everyone has been impressed with his work. Ryan really treats your bike right. I had picked up an old vintage ItalVega bike and used it as my daily rider for about a year until I decided I wanted to restore my bike that was falling apart. I'd take it in to some local bike shop for small repairs here and there but that place was expensive and sometimes I'd have to go back in because something wasn't done right. I took it to Ryan for a full restore. He really set me up. There were a few issues with the vendors he used for paint, but once it was back in his hands, Ryan delivered an amazing final piece. Where I'm from there aren't any good bike shops with a mechanic as good and as thorough as Ryan is. My bike was a mess. The front shifter was jammed, it needed new brake pads, tires and chain, and there was a lot of creaking noises. After I picked it up from Ryan, it was almost brand new! It was in better condition then when I purchased it. And the job was finished within a couple days of dropping it off. Ryan goes out of his way to explain every detail of what he will do to the bike, and answer every and all questions you have. For tune ups he also trues your wheels, polishes the brake trail, and does a wax finish for your bicycle. He went through and oiled all the pivoting parts on my bike, which got rid of all of the annoying creaking. He greased my seat post and the ball bearings in my hubs, and tightened all of my cables so they would be more responsive. All in all, Ryan has an amazing attention to detail, and will go all out to restore/tune your bike and treats it as one of his own. He is truly passionate about what he does, and really puts a lot of time and effort into each bike. Well worth the price, he's a tough mechanic to beat. read more

While I originally only needed a quick tune and some components added, he went the whole nine yards (obviously making sure I was okay with it first) and had the bicycle in better-than-new form! Seriously, it's never ridden this well before! He also found a stripped bolt in my headset cap and replaced it. He also replaced my spacers with really nice carbon fiber ones. 100% amazing service. I am hesitant to give this glowing review to Ryan... for purely selfish reasons. I consider him my personal mechanic and don't want to share. Regardless if he shares this same sentiment is irrelevant, the facts are he has built up 2 of my 4 steeds, and maintains all. I tinker and clean, but do not like to fuss, in other words, I prefer to ride hard and have an expert make sure my ride is functioning at its best. As you will read in the other reviews, he is meticulous in detail and quality and is up to date on all the new gear. His ability and knowledge is unequalled IMO. I don't know much about bikes, but I had an old Schwinn Suburban I wanted fixed up to use for commuting between home/school/work (riding around 8 miles/day). I just received my bike back from a tune-up. Ryan is the owner and also the one that does the work. I've had my bike for several years and have been contemplating a tune-up, but you know how life takes you in different directions... one day you have the money and then you don't... other things just seem more important, well, until you get a flat and then you figure, it's time. My bike was delivered to me as a NEW bike... the gears performed like new and he replaced the chain, my brakes used to sequel, but that was in the past, on more sequels or squeaks, my hand grips that used to move all the time... no more, fixed that too... my disk brake rotors were bent and that was fixed. My kick-stand was cracked and that was removed for safety and replaced. But that's not all; Ryan washed and detailed my bike! I have been to a lot of local bike shops to get my bike worked on and none of them pay as much attention to detail as Ryan. He did a full tune up on my bike, which needed a lot of work, and did an amazing job. He let me know everything that he worked on, and answered any questions I had, and let me know what I could do to keep it running smooth on my own. I'll admit it. I have trust issues. I don't like to let other people work on my bikes. I've had a few bad experiences but I needed a new bottom bracket and I don't have the tools for that. Ryan was recommended to me so I went for it. It was awesome that he came to my house to pick up my bike but a little unnerving to watch someone I don't know drive away with my bike. Mason repair does not have a brick and mortar shop, but does offer drop off and pick up service which is very convenient. I had ignorantly left my bike outside for about a year, so the chains/gears had gotten pretty rusty. I was concerned that the cost of fixing my bike would exceed the cost of just buying a new one. I e-mailed Ryan about my dilemma and he promptly responded by asking me to send him some pics of my bike. Afterwards, he was able to give me a rough estimate of how much my repairs would cost and offered to pick up my bike shortly afterwards. When he had my bike, he was very thorough in explaining what he was planning to repair and the work was then completed within a week. I was very happy with the repairs (he even waxed my frame!) and the advice he provided afterwards for proper maintenance of the bike going forward.
