We ordered the fried kimchi with pork belly from the appetizer menu, and it was absolutely delicious. It had the perfect balance of sweetness with just a little spice. We also tried the dumplings, which were great, but the dipping sauce really stood out, it made the dish even better. For our mains, we got the army stew and the kimchi soft tofu stew, and both were so flavorful and satisfying. The woman who took our picture was hilarious. I just moved into town and was searching for a KBBQ spot. This place was recommended. I ordered a la carte bbq and got the bulgogi and short rib. The portions are okay but the meat was not good quality, especially for the prices charged. It's also annoying that if you want to do all you can eat bbq, you can only choose out of 5 specific meats. The side dishes (e.g. kimchi, salad, potato) that came with the meat were all mediocre or bad, I didn't really eat them. The soup that came with it was extremely salty and honestly disgusting and dark for a miso soup. Overall, there just isn't anything good to say about this place. The service was mediocre/bad, I seemed to have a new waitress as she cooked my bulgogi on extremely low heat so the bulgogi was disgusting. And when I asked for a new meat because of her error, they refused! The waiter was also sitting at a table eating with her coworkers, and when she would check on us she had food in her mouth and was coming up from behind me. Not great hospitality. This would not have been as much of an issue if the food was actually good. I spent $86 for 2 people total. We did not drink anything besides water. This is a huge ripoff for the food you're getting. There also was a bug under my table. Overall, I was extremely disappointed and will literally never go back here. We were scared off the unlimited BBQ with a warning about a $15 penalty if the meat wasn't finished (???!!!). The appetizers we had, a deep fried pot sticker and Korean chicken wings (pretty much tempura) were super fresh. They were hot enough to melt granite on contact! I ordered chicken cutlet. I was served a bowl of warm rice along with kimchi and cold veggies. Good. The cutlet was overcooked; the breading was dark brown and the chicken inside the breading was dry. They include a 18% "service fee" (tip) on the bill. My wife missed it and gave a tip on the top because the bill asked for a tip as well. So this is a mixed bag. We wanted to try something different, so we opted for Korean. We had six in our party, so we ordered a couple of appetizers and we each got an entree. Food was super salty (we had to keep asking for water refills) and the meat was not the best quality for the price. Service was ok, not overly attentive nor welcoming. Music was great, but the interior could use a deep clean. I mean, this is a campustown and we are used to dive joints, but at this price point, I would hope the window coverings and walls would get a wipe down every now and again. Maybe it is a ventilation issue? I like to support locally-owned businesses and rarely give negative feedback because of this, but for what we paid, I would think better quality across the board would be offered (i.e. cleanliness, service, attentiveness, food quality, etc.). Tried out Masijta Grill for lunch. Ordered Bulgogi Lunch Box and for $11, was pleased with the amount of food. They use purple rice, which I'm fine with. Rice was slightly over cooked, which lacked the moist texture. Bulgogi was sautéed with a veggie mix. Salad had a nice citrus creamy vinaigrette dressing. Kimchi pancake had decent flavor, but was not very crispy. Pancake slices were hard to pick up and would fall apart. My friend ordered the Bulgogi bibimbop and he said it was alright. Soon tofu tastes like an full of oil that does not even have a recipe for this and many parts in the Short rib is just fat and cartilage parts which I do not understand. Deceptive tipping. Be aware! Charge 18% tip as service charge ( it shows tip on customer copy but shown as service charge on merchant copy) which people may think "must pay". On the top of the receipt l, it says if no tip is added, 20% is automatically charged, which mislead the customer to pay tips again besides the 18% service charge. In the tipping suggestion calculation, the base they use is the (food price+tax+18% service charge), which means you are paying tips on the tips. End up paying over 37% of the pretax bill! They have the largest selection of Korean soups I've ever seen. We ordered the kalbi and marinated beef for the grill and the SoonDuBu soup. If you want it spicy, ask for very spicy. They also provide plenty of traditional sides with each meal. They have all you can eat bbq options for around $40 bucks, but we barely finished the regular meal so that would just be too much food for us. Tuesdays are 20% off the all you can eat option. My first initial impression of the outside of this restaurant was "HUH" ? I was really nervous since there hasn't been a good Korean restaurant anywhere near me so i drove 1hr and 30 minutes to come here to try this. we were the first ones to be seated, the server was very pretty and very attentive. The meat came out pretty quick along with a whole table full of BAN CHAN my favorite part of a Korean BBQ experience! The server then set the meat on the grill for us and also showed us how to eat it the Korean style. She was awesome! we began eating , and WOW my taste buds exploded. The combination of flavors from the meat and the banchan side dishes along with wrapping everything up inside of a lettuce leaf, it was AMAZING!!!! it was sweet, sour (from kimchi), salty from the soybean paste, and neutral from the lettuce. Add garlic and jalapenos for more flavors and spice things up. the kimbap was rolled nicely, and the taste was very good, i don't have any complaints here. This was hands down the best "home" tasting Korean restaurant i've ever been to, taste just like mommy's cooking. So when there's Korean food near me, I feel like I have this strange obligation to check it out. I got excited to know that Masijta Grill is close by to my new place and they had an extensive menu, deliver, and has good reviews. Let's begin with the service. Service was great! I went at a non-busy hour, but I was impressed by how diligent our server was and very attentive to our table. As mentioned above, they have a very large menu, ranging from Korean barbecue, soups, rice bowls, etc. Prices are a bit steep though since you might end up spending close to $15-$20 for a full meal. Even though they're not cheap, the food is quality and serving size is generous. Unfortunately, I felt like the side dishes that came with our food were a bit disappointing. I guess I've been spoiled by other Korean barbecue places outside of the Champaign-Urbana area, but I just thought the side dishes were mediocre. Besides that, overall, I was happy with my first experience at Masijta Grill and hope to come back again. Another plus side is the ease of parking. There are plenty of street meter parking spaces outside the restaurant and other places in downtown Urbana as well. read more

They were very accepting of modifications - i asked for no oil in my bibimbap and a raw egg. While we waited, they gave us a large assortment of banchans, the pickles radishes were the best in my opinion. Our food came not long after. The bibimbaps came first. The noodles came about 7-8 minutes later. Everything was delicious, and they even gave us a free refill of the banchans. Best Korean food around! I've been dreaming of a place like this! We got the fried pork dumplings and spicy wings. The dumplings was crispy and served with some wonderful sauce and the wings were super crisp with great flavor! For our entrées all three of us shared the hot pot #2 beef and squid (spice level medium), order of spare ribs, and an order of the beef and seafood. All was phenomenal! Even the Korean beer was delicious. We will be back many many more times! The staff was friendly and helped us with our choices :) we'll be back! The outside patio is beautiful. This place was definitely a refreshing experience for the location it is in. The price is a tad bit overpriced to what they served you. The meat was okay and under seasoned, but definitely not worth the price. The AYCE was $30 per person and I came as a group of 3. Usually, they would make you tip if the group is over 4. I am not stingy on my tips because I do believe that everyone should be tipping, but I don't think they should force the customer to tip... especially if it's only a group of 3. My bill ended up being $40 per person. Just AYCE and water will cost that much. Of course AYCE is "all you can eat" but they were also slow on giving us more meat which leads to longer eating times and less of an appetite. We went for the more expansive option for ~$40/person. They do bring you a platter of everything first. We had pork belly, lamb, spicy pork, chicken, beef, boneless rib and tongue. The meal came with soup and rice. We loved the variety of meats. The service was good, but we didn't really need the servers to cook for us. Sadly, after we finished the platter, we didn't have room for anything else! It was still well worth the money for the AYCE in my opinion. I love how they serve you lettuce and side dishes so you can make your own Korean BBQ wraps and enjoyed the meat, veggies, and flavors with one big bite! Highly recommend the two grill dished we got. Korean fried chicken is also a must try. It is absolutely different than American fried chicken. Try it with the sauce on the chicken, as it was more flavorful (try garlic honey soy sauce. This is the first problem I encountered while eating at Masijta Grill, and the way it was handled by the owner was beyond unprofessional. We ordered the pork dumping soup however when the order came it was 6 fried dumplings. We told the waiter, hey we didn't ordered this, we ordered the dumpling soup and he took it back to the kitchen. When the soup finally came we found the six fried dumplings in the soups alongside with a few non-fried dumplings. When I brought it up to the lady, who I assume is the manager or the owner, that there're clearly 6 fried dumplings in there. You can't just put the wrong order into the soup. She tried to argue with me that they do sometimes put fried dumplings in the soup. Then I said if you do, why are there non-fried dumplings in there as well, and I've had dumpling soup here before and never encountered this situation. I told her all I'm looking for is an apology, the soup is already made so we'll eat it, but you can't just pull that bs on customers. She took off with a huff and said she'd make us a new one. At least in the end we got dumpling soup without any soggy fried dumplings. The lady maintained a rude demeanor and tried to find excuses at every turn during our conversation. The waiter and waitress working that shift were very nice and apologetic. Making a wrong order was an honest mistake but the way it was handled by the owner was unacceptable. read more

Masjita grill was place highly recommended by a colleague of mine. Only caveat she mentioned that the prices can be on the higher side. I must say I feel otherwise. For a meal for two, we ended up spending 24 $ which is reasonable as compared to the other regular "cheap" spots. Now coming to the dishes we ordered, you can't go to a Korean restaurant and not try their fried chicken. We ordered the ones (Marianated l Korean Style Fried Chicken Wings in Sauc) which was supposed to be spicy. The dish was not spicy but the wings were saucy..... My rating 3.5/5 (spiciness could be higher but I love spicy food so my standards are higher) Though the restaurant is known for its bulgogi dish, we wanted to try something else. Our server who needs a shout out for his awesome recommendation of Bul Dak Bok Eum which is essentially a chicken dish in a suacy veggie stirfry.
