Food is very tasty, staff so friendly! I wish they're located somewhere and not in downtown, and also open on weekends.

Perfectly spicy, huge portion size, very affordable. Definitely plan to make this a regular lunch spot.

I dont usually like to share secret gems of mine, but I love this place so much. I work downtown and whenever I crave Pakistani food (not to be confused with indian food, but similar dishes), I come to Masala Grill. The workers at Masala Grill are so nice, work with a smile and serve you delicious foods from their Pakistan. There's a la carte or buffet during lunch time. I recommend the buffet as they add a little bit of everything to it. The lamb curry is amazing and so is their chicken. **PRO-TIP: Get water. Food is a flavorful spicy, but spicy nonetheless.

Been meaning to go here for a couple of weeks, and finally went yesterday. I was the first customer, and the lady there is super kind. Put out fresh, warm bread, and fried fish which is for Tuesday's buffet. The basmati rice was nice and flavorful as was everything else including the chicken tikka masala and the veggie pakora. The green and white sauce is amazing! Love this Pakistani cuisine, and will definitely return. It's only open till 3 or 4 pm.

Masala Grill's lunchtime buffet never fails to satisfy! The selection is fabulous and the food is always fresh. With a build your own salad bar and a full menu of entrees, as well, anyone who is a fan of Pakistani food or interested in trying something new will find a fast favorite here. Definitely a hidden gem in Louisville that I recommend to anyone.

Was sick on my birthday this year, and have never tried Indian food outside of my pre-packaged…read moregoods or kitchen, and golly it was an amazing experience. I got the paneer kadai, if you like vegetarian options and tomato-based foods, this is it. It came with 2-3 days worth of food (kadai, rice, naan). I also got the vegetarian appetizer platter, which both me and my boyfriend demolished instantly (who knew veggies and cheese could taste so darn good). Anyways, take out was great, and I cannot stop thinking about it. Worth the price.

I was sadly very disappointed by Shalimar. I ordered takeout and was rudely directed to a table of…read morebags "Can't you just look behind you?" which really took me by surprise. Off-putting, but not the end of the world. Once I finally got my food it had the nerve to be BLAND! I was shocked. I ordered the vegetable biryani medium and both my partner and I had to double check I didn't order Mild. I genuinely could not believe the spice level was accurate as my "Medium" tasted so plain. My peshwari naan, which I'm used to being folded tightly with a generous amount of cashews, raisins and coconut, had mostly cashews and I'm not even kidding, only 3 golden raisins. It was slightly burnt, barely sweet, and short of my expectations. Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not mention how LITTLE mango chutney we received. After paying $3 for 2 ounces, the little container wasn't even half filled. I understand it's a small side but that level of stinginess could not go overlooked. I've heard so many good things about this place, but was ultimately disappointed in every area as a takeout order. Admittedly I probably should have ordered spicy, given how I prefer things on the hotter side, but that doesn't change that medium spice should still have vibrant, delicious flavor and my food unfortunately had none of that. I will not be returning. :/

The food is intriguing - we tried the fusion dish like a pot pie with lamb and potatoes. I think it had carrots inside as well. I wasn't quite sure what kind of fusion but it was an interesting take. The naan is fresh and delicious. Service was thoughtful when a friend requested to change something that was very unexpected that she did not want and was recommended by our server, so I can only give this a 5/5.

The dining space is cozy and comfortable with plenty of seating. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. Our server knew without blinking which menu items were vegan, and also was able to list the main ingredients for most dishes. We ordered several appetizers and soups to try - the Karvepaku Manchurian was very tasty, and both the Manchow and Hot and Sour soups were delivered hot and were nicely flavored. My dining companions had the non-vegan Tortilla Papdi Chaat and creamy tomato soup, and enjoyed both. All entrees are served with delicately spiced and perfectly fluffy basmati rice. I ordered the Bagara Baingan, which I had never tried but plan to again - often. The sliced eggplant cooked in peanut, sesame and curry sauce is EPIC. Pricing is reasonable for an Indian restaurant on the East End, especially one that's so delicious. With so many vegan options I'm looking forward to visiting again (but might just keep ordering the Bagara Baingan because DELICIOUS).
