Came here for an early dinner with my friends. Not super busy but there were a few groups of people in here dining in. It looked like a lot of people ordered thukpa. I've had it before from Kathmandu but we wanted easily shareable items. We ordered jhol momo and fried dumplings which came with a delicious spicy sauce on the side. We also got biryani, house noodles, and chicken curry. We chose medium spice but wished it was spicier. The food was good. For 5 adults and 1 kid, we still had leftovers. It's a good amount of food for the price. I would come back and try their thukpa and some of the dried meat options. It seemed like there was only one server, but we didn't wait too long for food. Kind of a hidden gem as most people are familiar with Kathmandu. It's kind of nondescript located on a strip near other stores so there's tons of parking. read more

A lot of thing are different since I last went. However they did have my chicken egg rolls The bar was lightly stocked. Decor wasn't very inviting. There was only 1 server and it took my food about 20 minutes to come out. (I was the only customer) He was very nice. I will say my food was delicious and fresh. Prices weren't too bad. I wanted to come here to try the lunch buffet. I mean: Nepalese, Chinese and Indian? That is a mix even I don't know how to choose. But I came on a wrong day: no buffet on Friday! Oh, well. I wasn't going to walk out on a mom-and-pop place. So I settled down and ordered a Nepalese dish: #147 Pork Shukute. The server told me it is "dried" pork? Huh?? I'm brave so I pointed to #147 and ordered. And please serve it like it should be spiced. I'm brave. While I waited for my food, I couldn't help but notice the remnants of the last restaurant: Empress of China. It is so very Chinese still. It is just like the menu: Nepalese family operates a restaurant in a former Chinese restaurant, with Indian food! But thanks to their geographical proximity...this might just work? My food arrives. So shukute is like jerky. The meat is dried like jerky, then deep fried, then stir fried with onion, peppers and spices. The resulting combo is very tasty and spicy. It was just spicy enough to make me sweat, but not enough to stop. While I thought the portion was a bit small...but it is just right. You need a set of strong jaw and teeth to chomp through an entire plate of jerky with few fillers. I can't wait to come back for the buffet...Monday through Thursday only. read more

I'm not sure if anything has changed but I'm updating my review for the take out service. While i didn't order ahead, there is no reason someone should ever wait 50 minutes for one take out order. One dish for 50 mins is ridiculous!! There's also a lot of customers that have come in and left, and folks dining in that are looking for the waiter. The service is dreadful here and beyond infuriating. While the food is good it's not worth this mess of a headache. read more

I'd never had Nepalese food before coming here for lunch a few months ago. I ordered the beef thukpa, a Nepali noodle soup. It was delicious and the service was great. I've since been back several times and the quality hasn't wavered. I'd recommend Chamling to anyone, especially if you enjoy Chinese and Indian food. read more

I was just looking to grab some Chinese buffet action on a Sunday. I remembered this Chinese place on hikes lane in front of Harbor Freight. When I pulled in I noticed it was a different business. The sign says Chinese, Nepali, Indian. Well this sounds better, I thought. The gentleman that sat me handed me a menu. It had the usual Chinese suspects. When I turned the page under specialties I saw goat curry. Bingo, I'm in. The waitress came and asked if I was ready. I ordered a hot and sour soup because I always do whenever I see it. I also ordered the goat curry. We don't have goat today she says. Noooooooo! We have lamb. Ok I'm alright now. After I ordered she went over to another table with 3 older couples seated. I over heard them ordering L7 with an egg roll and L 4 with egg drop soup. Ok, what menu do they have. Not the one I had thankfully for me. Apparently there is a lunch menu and a dinner menu. Get the dinner menu. I didn't see the lunch menu but I suspect it is a dumbed down version. The hot and sour soup came first with some fried crunchy bits on the side. The hot and sour soup was one of the best tasting bowls to me that I've had. Tofu and bamboo in a yummy chicken broth with a little vinegar. Thickened slightly with starch but not overly thick. The crunchy bits were very freshly fried. The curry lamb was outstanding. I could put that sauce on my shoe and eat it for lunch. $12.95 for the curry and $1.60 for the soup. I have enough left for lunch tomorrow so a pretty good value. Come out and support these guys. I can't keep them in business by myself. I definitely want to eat here again and again. read more

Half of the lights were turned off, there was a long fridge in the front door, it didn't look like it's been well-maintained, yet the food is all right. After reading other reviews, I had high hopes we would like their buffet. We had the lunch buffet, which I think is around $10 per person. I wasn't offered an itemized receipt, but two lunch buffets and two teas came to $23.19 including tax. First of all we arrived right after they opened. The buffet had not yet been fully stocked. As we started eating, they did bring out more entrees. I also think they hadn't turn on the warmers under the food until they started filling the buffet. Consequently, most all the food was being loaded into cold pans which quickly cooled the food. Most everything we tried was either room temperature or cooler. One exception was the Curry Chicken Soup, which I really enjoyed. In fact I would say it was my favorite item on the buffet. Another item we both liked was the Pokora. The General Tso Chicken was just ok. The chicken was very chewy and the sauce was flat compared to others I've had. The regular chicken wings were crispy and pretty good. However, the Spicy Wings were rubbery and I didn't taste much if any spice. We both tried the Garlic Chicken which was ok. On a positive note we both liked the ice tea. All in all, it was just ok but nothing we would go back for. read more

One word to describe the food...amazing! My husband got the goat curry and I got the shrimp curry. The goat curry sauce with fried rice was out of this world. The shrimp curry had a thick breading but was amazing with the spices that was mixed into the dish. We also got a beer that's Nepalese. It was very refreshing with the spices in curry we had. The waiter was polite and on the spot. One can tell that the food was made to order and not fresh frozen. This is a must for anyone that loves food!!! read more

My son and I decided to get the lunch buffet which is served 11-2. When we walked in, we were told that they would cook whatever we wanted. We noticed the buffet was almost empty although we arrived at noon when it should have been in full swing. There were about 10 other diners so it was not very busy. For starters, I wanted hot and sour soup and dished up some green beans, lo mein, crab rangoons, and sesame chicken. The dishes were almost empty so we were only able to get a small helping of each. The hot and sour soup was inedible. It was also yellow. I have never seen yellow hot and sour soup. The crab rangoon didn't have any crab but appeared to be stuffed with nothing but cream cheese. Lo mein and green beans were tasty but the chicken was soggy and gristly. Having gotten a sample of what was worth eating, I returned to the buffet for green beans and lo mein but there wasn't any. In fact, there was essentially nothing on the buffet. I remarked to the waiter that the buffet was empty and he told me they were bringing food out in 3 or 4 minutes. Ten minutes later, they still had not added anything. Again, I brought it to the waiter's attention and he told me they would bring more food out in a couple of minutes. Several diners went to the buffet but there really wasn't anything on it so they returned to their tables. A young woman ordered off the menu and was served quickly and efficiently. It appeared that she was the only one eating. After another 15 minutes, it was time for us to leave and nothing had been added to the buffet. I told the cashier I did not feel I should have to pay for the buffet because it was empty and he asked if I had eaten anything. I told him I ate a small helping of lo mein and green beans and he told me there was other food on the buffet. I challenged him to walk over to the buffet with me and show me where it was. We walked over and he pointed out about a cup of garlic chicken and said there was chicken available and I told him I don't like garlic chicken. Another diner was staring at the empty buffet and remarked that he had been waiting too and there had not been any food brought out for more that 30 minutes. The waiter asked me to wait three or four minutes and they would bring more food out but I told him I had already been there 45 minutes and I had to leave. For the first time in my life, I walked out without paying. I am 67 years old and have never done that before. Don't waste your time or money. I have never had a worse experience on a buffet. read more

Well worth the stop! Had the chicken curry-- has some heat but it was perfectly infused with the curry. Skip the buffet and pick up a menu. A friend and I went for lunch (around 1pm) to check out this new restaurant. The buffet didn't look particularly appetizing as there was only a small amount of food in each tray, several were empty, and the buffet fare looked fairly standard for any asian restaurant in town. We picked up a menu instead and ordered Vegetable Thugpa (Veggie soup with noodles spiced like chili) and Chicken Momo (chicken steamed dumplings) along with hot and sour soup. The Thugpa was absolutely delicious and the Momo were very well flavored. I highly recommend trying these dishes out. On the other hand, the hot and sour soup was incredibly bland and a big disappointment. Side note: I like how the menu was set up denoting which foods belong to which regions. Pros: Delicious menu items, well seasoned, reasonable price. Cons: Buffet was unappetizing, hot and sour soup was bland. I would give this place 4 stars for its menu items but I'd want to try more to be sure. Definitely plan to go there again. read more

The buffet was $9.53 but only worth $4.53. It had both Chinese and Indian food on the buffet, but failed at both. The Chinese food was the typical grissely chicken and standard items you would find at any other Chinese buffet, but less fresh and not hot. The inside of the egg foo young was watery. The Indian food selection was limited. Curry chicken, day, samosa, pakora and maybe something else. The naan was from the freezer section somewhere. The only things I liked were the green beans and pakoras. The place was not very busy. Let me start by saying I grew up in Northern India and am always on the lookout for places that serve food from that area of the world. Chamling is something a bit different than the normal. It servers a blend of Nepali, Indian and Chinese food with dishes from each on the menu, though the bulk of it contains all the Chinese dishes Americans are familiar with. the Atmosphere is quiet and the place is roomy. The tables are not so close together that other guests impede the enjoyment of my food. The Decor has not actually changed from when this location housed the Empress of China Restaurant and therefore has a worn and tired feel that needs updating. I started with Hot and Sour Soup, something I can compare with every other Chinese restaurant in the area. The soup had a fresh, tangy taste and was full of a smooth mix of chopped mushrooms and veggies. There were no big chunky pieces I associate with people that take short cuts. I will definitely be ordering this again as this soup was probably the best version of Hot and Sour Soup I have tasted locally. For the Entree, I stayed away from the typical Chinese American food, looking for their specials instead. I decided to try the Lamb Curry so that I could compare it to other local places that serve this dish. I had it with the White Rice, as that is how it was always served to me in India. The Broth was thick and hearty with a heady, fragrant aroma that made my mouth water and that promised a different take on this dish. The meat in the dish was fork tender, almost light in texture and did not have the overpowering wild taste that sometimes is present in these dishes. It was also boneless, which is a plus. Most versions of this dish I have eaten elsewhere are cooked with the bone so that the marrow thickens the broth. Even bonless, this broth was thick and hearty. the dish itself was not spicy hot, but was full of a blend of spices that made my tastebuds leap with joy and cheer. The overall texture and flavor made this a different dish than the Lamb curry I am used to that is cooked in the Punjab region of India. I will be going back for both these dishes I tried and it will be hard to try a different dish. read more

From the outside this little bistro is unassuming, but on the inside is a colorful yet relaxing environment filled with cultural decor, music, and even a few aquatic companions in fish tanks! The staff was incredibly kind and our service was timely. The food continued with the theme of excellence as our food was outstanding.
