Great to find a place in AR that really knows how to make pasta. We saved our pasta eating until we found a place with tens of positive reviews and pics and are glad we did. Another reviewer made a comment that this is not French food. Well, you're in Argentina so it's going to be their spin on it. Some the salads could definitely be French. It certainly looks like a French bistro with the white tile on the walls etc. We sat outside and the thing started well getting a caipirinha and the cute little basket of bread with the beet dip. We ordered the stuffed zucchini blossom with a salad and the highly acclaimed watermelon and tomato salad. Have always wanted to taste stuffed zucchini blossoms and had no idea how bitter they were. It really needed something sweet to offset it and there was nothing on the plate that could help. The rest of the salad was good with the light vinaigrette and the slices of brie but that stuffed zucchini flower - it was way too bitter. If that's the way they all taste I will never order them again. The watermelon and tomato salad had a very nice vinaigrette with lots of fresh herbs some slices of onion and then some really creamy almost like burrata like cheese. It was fantastic. Then we waited, and waited, and waited probably 45 minutes before we got our entrées which were the garganelli pasta with ragout of lamb and the rectangular shaped ravioli filled with ricotta and mushrooms served with sautéed mushrooms on it. Both were excellent but the lamb ragout needed salt and they had taken the salt away from the table after our appetizers and we did not notice. The ricotta and mushroom stuffed pasta was seasoned with the perfect amount of salt and pepper, lots of butter and nicely sautéed mushrooms that had strong mushroom flavor. There are several things that made this place average overall. First thing was that, on arrival, they didn't have my reservation. I made it by web and finalized with an email from the restaurant. Fortunately, I had the email to show that I really did have a reservation. As we ate, I could see other people being refused seating or offered a place on the sidewalk (and it was 30C tonight). So, if you do dine here, despite what I'm saying, then you'd better reserve and preferably by phone. Next, they offered us a table almost directly on the flight path from the front door about four feet away. I rejected that and asked if they could split an unoccupied twin table set for four against a wall and away from traffic (we were two). They refused and indicated another table where one of the seats was directly next to the door. No thanks. Then they offered us some seats in the back section of the restaurant where some servers were busily chowing down before their shift. Maybe it would look nicer later, but not now. No thanks. Finally they split another table of four so at least we were about 20 feet from the front door but still on a flight path to the rear section. It was adequate. I requested a glass of wine and the pour was skimpy for Argentina. In the USA it would be considered generous/typical, but here it was definitely the skimpiest I have ever experienced. In the middle of eating, a cleaning person appeared with a mop, cleaning the front near the serving counter, and in front of us. I couldn't see any evident need to mop just right now. It takes the ambience down a bit - wait til later or start doing this earlier. The food was great, no question about that. However, it was pricier (check the attached menu) than it deserves to be when compared to other places the same or even better in Mendoza and elsewhere in Argentina. Coming from USA, it's almost embarrassing how low the prices are, but that's not my point. Relative to other places, you are getting less value for this admittedly good food. The place is called "bistro" which may give permission to crowd the tables together. However, seating is a bit too tight. Once again, I say this compared to other places of similar or better rating. Just yelp other places with similar rating to this one. It's undeservedly high in my opinion and that's why I think it deserves a three-star. read more

I came to María Antonieta one night looking for a second option to Azafrán, which was booked, as expected. I was pleased to snag a table here. I began with the kale salad, which was actually much larger than anticipated. It could have been an entree, really. The salad was nice and springy, with a hint of lemon, but it had so much ricotta that it changed the texture to mushy toward the end, especially. My entree was the albóndigas de cordero (lamb meatballs), which were nicely prepared and came in a warm, flavorful sauce. The peas underneath were a touch on the hard side, though. Service was OK, although they were quite inattentive after I got my entree. Ah well. It's Mendoza, so eliciting an opinion from the staff for a wine pairing won't lead you wrong. On the whole, I wasn't blown away by this place but am glad I stopped in! read more

Especially the watermelon salad nailed it -- my quick bite at Maria Antonieta exceeded my expectations, and I will give the chef more credits than just being a "touristy spot" in other reviews. 4.5 star; rounding up here. I ordered two small plates as my dinner: the watermelon salad, and the baked kale. The portion was healthy and I was plenty full. The staff was attentive but the service is on the slower side which I didn't mind. The watermelon salad is a dish that my tastebuds would beg me for more. The dish creatively combined watermelon, feta cheese, olive pate, tomatoes, fresh basil, and orange peels. It's a flamingo of various textures and flavor profiles: from the creamy cheese to the bursting watermelon, from the sweet fruit to tangy tomatoes to savory olive pate to herby basil ... The chef turned my tongue into a stage for each of the fresh ingredients to shine. Yummmmm! The baked kale is a rare find in the meat eating Argentina. I enjoyed this warm dish as my main; it was salted perfectly, and came with caramelized onion and shaved cheese, which added to the flavor. The soft boiled egg made an otherwise light dish more hearty. The only suggestion is to season the dish with some pepper to bring more excitement. A shoutout on the bread and the fresh carrot dip on the house. You can taste the hint of young sweet carrots and quality olive oil. In my opinion, theirs is the top 3 dips in Mendoza (the eggplant dip in La Marchigiana and the Zuelo olive oil in Fuente y Fonta would be the other two). MA's bread selection tops Mendoza (thanks to their own bakery), especially the whole wheat bread with seeds. I won't be able to comment on their pasta dishes and meat entrees. Yet I am humbled by the genuine presentation of food here based on the two dishes I had: simple, but every bite brings out the joy of real, fresh, and carefully prepared ingredients. MA is good for solo traveler or date nights. read more

The restaurant was pretty full but we were able to get a table in their outdoor seating area. I ordered the "Pansotti de calabaza y mascarpone con manteca de albahaca y salvia", which translates to "Pumpkin and mascarpone pansotti with basil and sage butter". It was.. interesting. I think the restaurant specializes in pumpkin so the pasta itself was very good. The sauce that came with it is delicious as well. I was just not expecting there to be chunks of nuts (i'm not sure what type it was.. tasted a little like pistachio??) in the pasta, so I was a little turned off by that texture. I would have loved the dish otherwise. My boyfriend ordered a steak, and while the flavors were good, it was very salty. Obviously popular with American tourists, even by those who apparently had nothing more than a salad to use for the restaurant's rating. However, its watermelon salad is, in fact, wonderfully refreshing and should be tried. I had the ribeye in order to compare it with U.S. counterparts. The portion was generous, beautifully grilled and, at $15, half of what one would pay in a U.S. restaurant of similar quality. The texture and tenderness is slightly different than a U.S. steak, and I've read about some of the reasons for these differences. The sidewalk setting under the trees on a warm day, the attentive wait staff and other nice touches make this one of the better choices in Mendoza's fine restaurant scene. read more

We spent a very long day/night in travelling to Argentina from LA and having good food was on our mind after 24 hours of plane and airport food. Luckily enough, my friend Dani (former Mendoza resident) gave me a list of "must do" places and Maria Antonieta was luckily on the list. We dined there for lunch (it was booked all the evenings). Ohhhhh soooooooo good! One of our favorite dining experiences in Mendoza. After seeing so many tacky looking sports bars and tourtist eateries along the main strip we ended up at Maria Antonieta for lunch. The place is so cute and quaint - we got an awesome table in the middle. The place was bustling with activity but never felt busy or rushed. The usage of space here is awesome. All the food was AMAZING - no disappointments in any dish: - The complimentary bread had a delicious beetroot puree to dip into. So good. - Souflé de calabaza (Pumpkin souffle) - Amazing! The texture was perfect, nice and light - not too heavy. There is a bit of cheese hidden inside. - Sartén de kale, huevo y cebollas caramelizadas (Kale, egg and caramelized onions with chicken) - The chicken was full of flavor, all nicely seasoned. - Berenjenas napolitana con burrata (Neapolitan Eggplant with Burrata cheese) - Very nice. The burrata in Argentina is more stringy than the Euro/American style with the juicy middle. - Spaghetti con ajo frito, ají y perejil (Spaghetti with fried garlic, pepper and parsley) - Perfectly cooked al dente spaghetti - full of flavor! - Dulce de Leche Souffle - Woooaaaaah what an ending to a great meal. If ever you get tired of Asado and grilled vegetables, this is the place to go in Mendoza! Amazing and refreshing menu with items such as a salad with burrata, prosciutto and pears! As well as handcrafted pasta that will make your mouth water. We had the stuffed ravioli with ricotta and it was divine! They also have a good wine selection by the glass which can be a relief if ever you are like us and become a bit saturated with drinking at wineries all day and just want a little something to accompany your meal. What a find! A few blocks from our hotel Marie Antonieta is a wonderful bistro with elegant but reasonable breakfast, lunch and dinner. The kitchen is open to see the action and immaculate. The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. We watched as course after course were being delivered to customers whose first instinct was to take a picture of the plate. I ate here twice during my weekend in Mendoza. After three weeks in Buenos Aires, I had begun to despair ever finding a place with simply great food, and great atmosphere. Marie Antoinetta did not disappoint! As soon as you walk in, the attention to detail is evident- this is a cute, French-style bistro, with fresh fruit baskets, checkered tablecloths, and an outdoor seating area to boot. The waitstaff was highly attentive, and most were able to communicate with me in English (given my highly limited Spanish). The food was excellent both times. The first time, for lunch, I got the steak sandwich- definitely the best casual meal I had in Argentina. It was massive, the steak tender and seasoned, and the flavors combined to make it more of an experience than a meal. The second time, I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning (everything in Argentina is closed on Sundays. I mean everything). Again, they had a brunch that was simply prepared but delicious! Eggs (hard to find outside of a hotel), fruit salad, and coffee gave me the energy I needed for my final day of walking around and exploring the city. Add to the food and ambiance the fact that they had both air conditioning and wifi, and I honestly didn't want to leave! A really nice restaurant to check out. It's simple yet amazing food. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. There is a tree out front so the sun wasn't an issue and the noise from cars and trucks wasnt too bad, considering it's on a big street. The serve bread with a pumpkin like spread. The bread was soft and fresh. We started off with a grilled eggplant with diced tomatoes and burrata topped with pesto. It was amazingly delicious. I would go there just for that dish alone with a nice beer or wine. We also ordered fried zucchini flowers stuffed with goat cheese with arugula salad and cheeses. The flowers were overly battered and was too heavy for our liking. Other than that, it was decent. For our entrees, we had the lomito with guacamole, tomato, bacon and fried egg and chicken pesto sandwich. The meat was thinner than expected. The meat in the lomitos in Buenos Aires were much thicker. It was like eating a sandwich filled with a steak. At MA, the meat was thin but I didn't mind it at all. It was seasoned well and the toppings complimented the sandwich. The bread was thin and perfect. The grilled chicken sandwich with pesto was great as well. I had just arrived at the Diplomatic Hotel and asked for dinner recommendations. They recommended a few and said Marie Antoinette was right next door. We made a reservation. I recommend doing the same. We were lucky to get a seat outside. Instead of the common steak options, we had decided instead to pick the pasta. My mom loved her gnocchi and I loved my dish too. Looking for a place to eat in downtown Mendoza? Don't skip this place! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but wow... Amazing homemade food here! Practically everything on the menu is outstanding. Pasta dishes are phenomenal, there's also chicken,fish and meat (of course). Service is nice and friendly. Prices are very good for the food you'll be eating here. Haven't tried anything close. It's a bit small and does get crowded , would recommend a reservation just to guarantee a table. I live and dine out in Manhattan often. This place would easily be a favorite in NY if it was there (feels a bit like a Williamsburg haunt). Food was amazing (got the pear salad, salmon tartar and pumpkin soufflé), ambience is perfect, and waitstaff was wonderful (I realized in the middle of my meal I forgot my credit card and had to grab it from my hotel around the corner. They were very graceful about the situation). Overall, this place was a wonderful alternative to many of the pro forma menus of neighboring restaurants. read more

I'll start out with the food that we ordered. I had the kale salad and the spaghetti with shrimp. The shrimp salad was pretty good. It had a strong garlic taste with avacado and an interesting cheese to complement. The spaghetti with shrimp was also really good. It was more of a thin fetteicinne with a nice pesto base. Both items were excellent in my opinion. Why the one star? Service was pretty bad, almost comically bad. We constantly asked for things that either took a while or never showed up. One example, we asked multiple times for another water. The second time around the waitress said she would be back with another one after taking our empty glass but she never came back. Consequently, we sat with one empty glass for the rest of our dinner. It seemed like an unnecessary chore to try to get and pay for our check as well. Overall, bad service really kills a dinner experience, even with the excellent food that they seem to offer. read more

What a great place, only problem is that when you eat here as your first place in Mendoza, you think all the food will be as amazing as as here, it's not. For starters we had a riff on a caprese, creamy burrata, the ripest, juiciest most perfect heirloom tomatoes and most fragrant fresh picked basil, we shared that, but if you both like tomatoes, get two! I had the ribeye with a side of grilled veggies, my wife had the pumpkin mascarpone agnolotti. The presentation on my ribeye was great, seared and served on a large wooden cutting board with a pile of fresh roasted veggies! Other tables looked over to see what this amazing looking dish was. The wife's agnolotti was great too, creamy, savory, with perfectly cooked pasta. There was also some fresh baked bread with an amazing very spread! For dessert we opted for the dulce de leche soufflé with a fresh banana ice cream, so sweet but really balanced with the banana ice cream. read more
