Amazing . Wow Mendoza treated me very well . Argentina was actually the only country I visited ( and I've been to a lot of countries) , the only one I was almost in tears when I left . Amazing ppl , so proud of who they are and respectful ... and it all reflects on their service and food :) I went here for lunch ... it was adventurous culinary-wise . The chef wasn't afraid to be creative and he delivered. I thoroughly enjoyed my food , service and the ambiance ..

Having tried and failed to get a reservation here through the online process for several weeks, I decided to drop by one evening. I walked past and spotted a single empty table through the window, and lucked out and was able to snag it! I enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting, using the suggestions of the somm for lamb pairings. First was a 2015 Susana Balbo Torrontés with nice notes of apple and pear. It was so smooth and drinkable. Next was 2016 Zuccardi Series A Bonarda, which I'm just now exploring in Argentina, followed by a great 2015 Bramare Viña Cobos Malbec. All this for, with the current exchange rate, only USD $8! The lamb with the peas and Malbec created a velvety patina in the mouth that was uncommon and enjoyable. That said, I wasn't impressed with the lamb itself. The preparation was such that nearly half was difficult to cut and gristly to eat. It was my least favorite part of the meal, unfortunately. There is a nice vibe inside--classy but causal. They have a wine cellar that I could happily live inside, with all the options! Service was fine, if a bit inattentive. Altogether, I'm thrilled I was able to get in but next time would definitely not order the lamb.

Another splendid case of Argentine hospitality. We made last minute plans for NYE dinner. They were fully booked and all they could guarantee is an outdoor table. We were barely seated and the hostess offered us a table inside since we were there for an early dinner. Upon seating they inquired about dietary needs or restrictions. Since my wife doesn't eat seafood, for the second course they presented a beautiful plate of beef carpaccio. The six course menu was well thought out with wonderful pairings of Rutini wines. Their Somm came by with each wine and presented them with a full description and each time offered us a taste. The service, the food, the presentation and hospitality were all fantastic. Azafran came recommenced by one who had lived and worked in the area for several years. They certainly did not disappoint. We only wish our stay in Mendoza was longer so that we could experience Azafran again.

Quaint and intimate setting, with one of the most charming wine rooms I've seen. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Now let's talk abut the food... OMG our best meal in Mendoza! The ribeye was delicious and bursting with flavor on a bed of pumpkin compote and onion compote on the side. The combination was simply divine! Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we had the dulce de leche creme brûlée; this took the experience to the next level.

After walking past this twice trying to find it, we finally found the entrance! We didn't have time to make a reservation so were pushing our luck a little given how small and quaint the place is. Initially we were told their were no seats available - when the host showed us the seating chart there was a table that wasn't booked for at least an hour! Upon the promise that we would wrap up within an hour and be out of their way, they finally allowed us a cute two seater table along a wall lined with lots of nick nacks and ponchos. Firstly the wines they were pouring by the glass were great! We went with a bottle of the Don Davis Torrentes (our recent wine discovery of that day!!) So good chilled!! The food was all delicious - sadly we didn't have the time to order the majority of the menu as normal, so we focused on the best looking dishes: - Breads: The complimentary breads were awesome. Especially the delicious onion one in a spiral type shape. - Empanadas 3 ways (Beef, Ocotopus and Chorizo). All beautifully cooked. - Barrata and heirloom tomatoes - Soooooo fresh. Really enjoyed. - Smoked Salmon amuse bouche - A surprise treat from our server. Super fresh, cold smoked salmon. - Beef wellington with blue cheese - As one would expect, this was amazingly cooked beef. Perfectly cooked medium rare with a crispy pastry crust. Top notch. Wonderful mash potatoes and a bell pepper puree. WOWZERS! Highly recommended! Try and make a reservation Protip: There is an attached wine cellar where you can buy a bottle and bring it into the restaurant. Walk in and chat with the sommelier for some recommendations

Empenadas list and tasting menu... Also a great amuse bouche

Wow... Run, don't walk to this restaurant - but be sure to get a reservation in advance... We had some of the best - probably top two octopus entrees we have had... In our lives... And that is across a lot of Michelin rated restaurants. Breads basket - an often overlooked item really delivers here - gourmet artisan bread. Wonderful risottos and lamb and empanadas to die for! We got the empanada sampler and tried all 6. How often do you see sweetbread or octopus empanadas? This place ROCKS!!!! Well priced - very fair for what you are getting. This and Don Mario are my favorite in Mendoza and the only places we were asking about coming back the next day before leaving! They were very attentive to our food allergies and the service was very friendly and attentive and helpful.

Pastry wrapped filet with spinach and sweet potato

This restaurant is very highly regarded and was recommended by several people. Reservations are required, although there were several empty tables when we went even though we supposedly got one of the last reservations. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. One of the unique aspects of this restaurant is the walk-in wine cellar where the somelier assists you in picking a bottle. There is no wine list. The menu is quite impressive. I enjoyed a pastry-wrapped filet with spinach and sweet potato and it was excellent. We had had a large and late lunch that day, so we didn't explore the menu as much as we would have otherwise, but it is clear that this is a top notch restaurant. The service was adequate but not up to the same level as the menu. Somelier was very helpful, though.

So for as much buzz as this place gets it should be GREAT... I as just good for me.. the food was solid but nothing out of this world.. it is pricy and matches the price, but certainly does not go above and beyond. Had the white fish on a bed of coucous with kale, tomatoe reduction and shrimp.. all cooked very nicely. My husband had beef tenderloin with sautéed onions. one side of this tenderloin was perfect, the other side soggy because it was covered with the onions.. kids had pasta which they said was good.. the bread basket was yummy and sitting outside on a beautiful day in Mendoza was great.

    The restaurant is beautifully decorated

I came to 1884 with very high expectations. A close friend had hyped it up as one of Mendoza's…read moremust-try fine-dining experiences -- unlimited bread, incredible food, Francis Mallmann's legacy, the whole story. And yes, the restaurant is visually beautiful. But once the meal actually began, the entire experience fell apart so completely that I left wondering how this place still has a reputation at all. THE PREPAY REQUIREMENT: A BAD SIGN I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO Before I even sat down, I was required to prepay for the entire experience upfront. For a restaurant that positions itself as premium fine dining, this immediately felt off -- like they don't trust their own service or quality enough to let the guest pay afterward like every other serious restaurant in the world. In hindsight, this should have been my warning. SERVICE: INATTENTIVE, CARELESS, AND DISORGANIZED The service throughout the night was shockingly mediocre for a restaurant charging this much. * They removed my bread plate mid-meal without asking, despite supposedly offering unlimited bread. * When I asked for more, they handed me a tiny leftover scrap, as if the kitchen had run out. Completely unacceptable. * Courses were dropped without enthusiasm or explanation. * The pacing was inconsistent, with long gaps at odd times. * The staff felt disengaged, like they were just going through the motions. For a restaurant with this price tag, this level of service is embarrassing. THE FOOD: ONE DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER ANOTHER Shrimp with Humita -- Disappointing and Poorly Executed The highly recommended shrimp with humita arrived as two tiny shrimp sitting on what tasted like plain creamed corn. No depth, no balance, nothing resembling fine dining. I didn't finish it because it was genuinely unpleasant. King Crab Gnocchi -- Good Pasta, Terrible Crab The gnocchi itself was soft and well made. The crab, however, was stringy, off-tasting, and filled with scraps from the shell. It completely ruined what could've been a decent dish. Wagyu Steak -- The Low Point of the Night This was supposed to be the star -- and it was easily the worst part of the meal. The Wagyu looked unappetizing, was overly salty, lacked tenderness, and tasted nothing like Wagyu should. I've had far better steak at casual chain restaurants. The potato side was bland and forgettable. Dessert -- The "Best" Part, But Still Not Good Dessert was fine, but absolutely nothing special. I've had significantly better desserts at everyday cafés across Buenos Aires for a fraction of the price. THE WINE PAIRING: LAZY, UNDERPOURED, AND MISALIGNED The wine pairing felt like an afterthought: * Three white wines in a row, none of which paired particularly well with the dishes. * Half-pours that felt cheap and stingy. * Reds and sparkling that were simply "fine" and added nothing to the experience. Nothing about it enhanced the meal or justified the price. FINAL VERDICT This was supposed to be a highlight of my Mendoza trip. Instead, it was one of the most disappointing and overpriced dining experiences I've had anywhere in the world. * Overhyped food * Weak service * A bizarre prepay requirement * Poor execution * Underwhelming wine pairing * Very little value for the money WOULD I EVER GO BACK? Absolutely not. WOULD I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE? No -- not to anyone. Not for any occasion. Not at any price. 1884 may be a beautiful restaurant, but everything beyond the visuals fell dramatically short. I left frustrated, disappointed, and genuinely confused as to how this place is considered "fine dining."

I made reservations right away and they confirmed with me within 24 hours. We had 8pm reservations on a weekday. Cabs are cheap in Mendoza so it was easy to get to. Once finished, the restaurant will call you a cab to get back which was great and convenient. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The entrance is somewhat hidden but once you enter, everything is spectacular. We were lucky to sit outside next to the grill pit. The air smelled of woodfire which I absolutely loved. The service was impeccable and we downed two bottles of wine during our dinner. Appetizers: Octopus - It's a staple at the restaurant. It will always be on the menu and rightfully so. The octopus was grilled perfectly. It had a great char taste on the outside but super soft on the inside. Definitely not overcooked. The rustic potatoes it came with was just as good. It was fried beautifully, so crisp on the outside, piping hot on the inside. Add the lemon and olive paste aioli and it was the perfect start to a great meal. Entrees: Wagyu - AMAZING. The wagyu was like butter, cooked perfect to medium rare. It was on top of this potato chip like plate and that was just as good. So crisp and it absorbed the juices of the wagyu in the middle. Mouth watering. Rib-eye - A bit chewier than the wagyu but just as good. The meats were just grilled perfectly. No other way to say it. Desserts: Burnt Fruits - A must try! Who knew burnt fruits could be so good. The overall flavoring was a bit of cherry which I loved. All the fruits were so juicy and I loved that it was hot from the grill. Different from the usual desserts. Flan - Just as satisfying. The flan was eggy, creamy. Paired with candied nuts added great contrasting texture to the flan. Overall, so good! A wonderful meal in a beautiful restaurant. They also accept credit card and the best part is you can add tip to the credit card bill as well!
