The workers are extremely rude to my parent who is unable to walk. They make them wait for over 20mins to go to the bathroom and then shout that they can't get there immediately and to defecate on self. The hallways are also very noisy. it's almost impossible to have a proper phone conversation with my parent. They charge a heck of a lot of money to treat their guests like animals? It's absolutely unacceptable. These people also chose this as a career - now do your darn job with compassion. You never know if you'll ever be in that position one day. read more

The entire atmosphere and quality of employees' attention to detail and care that I receive on an individual level.

Care quality for patients is poor, so, it's mostly warehousing them. Aides sit around chatting or looking at their phones. My loved one was just left alone most of the time and could've used more loving attention, even though the dementia was bad. What really hurt, was after passing, they didn't bother to even send a sympathy card after they'd resided there for over 16 months. read more

The staff at Marymount Villa truly are caring, professional, and maintain good communication. I had to establish a conservatorship for my family member and administrators and staff have been welcoming, gracious, and understanding. When my family member required emergency care, staff were quick to initiate the emergency hospital visit and inform me immediately. My family member has adjusted very well to Marymount Villa's memory care program and supportive staff and has been a resident for two years. The facilities are pleasant and caring with good meal selections and social programs. read more

My loved one has dementia and has been a resident at Marymount Villa for about 5 months now. I visit as much as I can, every time I am there visiting my relative is always in great spirits and is very happy here. I am greeted and welcomed by the front office staff who are always willing to help and answer any questions. I have visited during some of their family events and the food and entertainment have been excellent. They have a garden and patio area for the residents to go out and sit and enjoy the sun and fresh air. I have met a lot of the other members of the community while visiting and they are always busy doing activities and being entertained by the staff. Whether they are coloring, doing chair exercises, watching a movie and so much more, it's great always seeing the residents active. read more

Marymount Villa is a retirement/rehabilitation center for elderly people. The ambiance is beautiful, comfortable and spacious. The employees working here are accommodating, helpful and caring. Their demeanor is one of compassion and their positive attitude is truly uplifting. They have a dining room for their residence people and their visitors. They also have activities for them. Outside of the villa is an area where the people can relax, sit and walk around the garden-like setting. My husband, daughter and I came to visit a relative (daughter's big mama aka grandmother), who is staying here for the time being. She has a private room and is being well taken care of by the staff. read more

My friend needed an assisted living home ASAP. I was frantic when I left my home state to check on him, only to find him near death from Renal Failure and in a hospital in Oakland, California. From the hospital he went to a skilled nursing home in Alameda, CA. In the week that he remained there I accomplished herculean tasks regarding his care, his paperwork, ID's, necessary numbers needed in this technical world to get anything important done, especially for someone else. All of the Doctors, nurses, caregivers, CNA's in multiple facilities bent over backwards to help me manage my very compromised friend. A volunteer woman at Kaiser researched multiple senior facilities for us, finding on day 6 of 7, before George was going to be released, Marymount Villa in San Leandro. It was Providence that the Manager was free to give me a tour within the hour! It is a lovely facility! Very spacious, five floors, each designated to particular care. The spacious & sunny patio on the 2nd floor warmed my heart - as outdoor people, George and I especially enjoyed this space even tho he was assigned to the 5th floor. His meals were impressive and he ate with gusto - gaining needed weight and definitely perking up his Doc numbers. George loves chocolate ice cream and when he remembers to request it, it's on his meal tray! He shares a spacious enough room with another resident - divided by a half wall that gives them each some privacy. We had to purchase needed items like a bed, sheets, towels, toiletries, which makes sense, with plenty of wheelchair maneuverability in the equally spacious shared bathroom. I was delighted with the place & so was George. The staff are very friendly, skilled in their tasks and always available to answer a question or just say hi. I love that they referred to George by his name; it makes a person feel valued. Marymount Villa is walking distance from BART too - very helpful to me as it's sometimes the BEST way to travel throughout a big city. And nearby is a village square I guess you could call it, with a Safeway, bakery, coffee shop, etc. It was easy to pick up items necessary to George's comfort. The church across the street was a pleasant walk for George when I was there to take him. All in all, My friend and I found Marymount Villa to be a perfect home for him! He is happy here. He eats like a king, is bathed and dressed by staff who seem to take great care of their residents. This is a very nice facility for our precious seniors. read more

Price Gouging, Threats & Intimidation in Assisted Care Facilities My mother has been a resident of Marymount Villa (MV), for almost 10 yrs. Executive Director Dolly Rizvi requested several rent increases from $3,200 to $4,800 within a three-month period. Due to the fact that my 80-year-old mother is disabled, suffers from dementia, she is conserved under the Alameda County Conservator's Office. Dolly continues to accept rent payments and keeps a tally of the portion of the rent she believes is due, threatens to sue for back rent and she tried to circumvent the conservator by sending me the bills. Rizvi has been reported to the Alameda County Ombudsman for inadequate placement assessment, price gouging as my Mom's PCP listed her as mobile, alert and active compared to the MV nurse's assessment at the highest tier (bed-ridden resident.) Rizvi refused to negotiate the rent and stated family could move mother out. Substantially the quality of care has decreased severely by the following: * Staff does not notify family or conservator in a timely manner regarding any health concerns. * Dress inappropriately for medical appointments and in residence. * They lost her dentures and upon receipt of the replacement dentures they were lost on day one. * On April 25, 2022, in the early morning, my mother fell, hit her head and shoulder while with two caregivers. They failed to inform the conservator or family in a timely manner and scheduled a non-emergency medical transport for the afternoon. I had to give firm and direct instructions to the nurse to call an ambulance immediately. * With two trained dementia caregivers she should not have fallen with so much force as to cause physical and cognitive impairment. Rizvi would not respond to inquiries about the details of this event. * Reported incident to San Leandro Police Department, Officer stated that they get lots of calls from family that they cannot contacted loved ones as no one ever answers the telephone and SLPD has been unsuccessful to get anyone to answer doors for follow up on reports in evenings. In my search for a new home, I have found former MV residents who were forced to leave because of improper care and ridiculous prices. Please avoid this place as there are no quality and safety controls to guarantee the safety and proper care of your loved one . MV uses threats of eviction to push out residents that are not paying top dollar. Although the rules for assisted living allow for rent increases, increasing rent $1,000 + is exorbitant, unattainable, and cruel, forcing those who cannot pay to leave during COVID, this is a money grab at the expense of our seniors. read more

OMG!!! Where do I start? This place will kill your love ones quick!!! Stop don't go their unless you don't care about love one. Father brought back there by EMT (from hospital) Dr. called before he was released to make sure they ( staff) would have heads up, staff their stated they will be waiting...well long story short, the hospital is 11 minutes away, No one answered phones or doors! Cont'd EMT's waited, waited, called, called NO Answer.EMT and myself decided to call police to do a well check. OMG!! What did we discover? ALL STAFF WAS SLEEP!!!! GONE BEDDY BYE!! WHO CARING FOR THE RESIDENTS WITH DEMENTIA RESIDENTS wheeling themselves around, one man trying to open balcony. This is a pretty good place for seniors looking for some light support services. It's in a lovely area, next to Casa Peralta and a small local museum, and close to a local shopping plaza. My father lived there for 9 months as we were spending down his assets. Like most places in the SF Bay Area, there ain't much out there if you don't have the money, but this place is pretty affordable for what they offer. There is 24 hour staffing, emergency pull cords in the rooms and bathrooms. We left as his dementia issues were increasing, the level of care needed was increasing (and thus the price increase), and he ran out of private funds. This is something that most will run into throughout the search for senior housing, so don't be surprised. This place is for the mostly independent senior, or someone that needs a caregiver (which will bring the price up of course); not really specifically designed for dementia issued folks, although they will work with you if there is only mild dementia issues. there is a parking lot gate that locks at nighttime and alarmed front entrance, so late night partying seniors might want to keep their independent housing still! Meals (and this will be very important to most people) are served restaurant style, although there is generally only one meal option (with ability to request an alternate ahead of time). My mother has been at Marymount Villa since March of 2016-so it's been about 6 months and I feel I can write an accurate review of our experience at this establishment. My mother needs a high level of care; she has dementia, schizophrenia and assorted medical issues. My mother is not an easy person to deal with and she has been chased out of a few elderly facilities in the past. I was at my wits end when we came to Marymount, but I feel that we have finally found a place where my mom is HAPPY, which means I am not constantly being called with all the issues my mother is creating. The facility: clean, spacious bedrooms, large wheel chair accessible bathrooms, friendly staff & food that my mother likes. Marymount provides shuttle service on Tues & Thurs for Dr. appointments, which is such big help since my mom is in a wheelchair & also is very careful & conscientious about my mother's medication and physical well being. The facility has a podiatrist that come in the care for the residents feet, a hair styling salon (they cut my mother's unruly hair) and also offer dental care-which is so great! I'd also like to mention the manager Kai-he is committed to excellence and works very hard to insure that things run smoothly.... when they don't he takes action to make it right. For my mother, in memory care on the 3rd floor it's pricey, but you can't put a price on piece of mind. :) read more

Let me start off by saying DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HERE! We put my Father in law in the place. It was a horrible experience. First thing they did was a bait and switch. They promised us a private room and a set price. We signed all the paperwork and put a deposit down. Two weeks later there we were with my Dad and all his belongings ready to move in. At that point we were informed we could no longer have that room at that price. We could have the room at about $1000 more a month. Or move to a shared room. For also more money. Once we put up a fuss she did agree to let us have a shared room at the rate we were promised. Bait and switch. All the programs promised were never delivered. On the floor he was on all they did was put them in front of the TV all day. They never even talked to the residents. Staff was rude. And they did not care about the residents. Place was dirty. They said they cleaned the rooms every day but that was untrue. They consistently lost my Dads clothes and bed sheets. We would show up and he was wearing other peoples pants. I would definitely not recommend this facility for three reasons: My Mom was at Marymount Villa in San Leandro for two weeks in their memory care unit. I visited her every day. She had a blood blot in her left leg so they put her in a wheelchair. She developed an open sore ulcer on her lower back. They did not treat it, nor did they tell me about it. Only in the ER did the Dr point it out to me. They took pictures of it. Second and most upsetting, the administrator and nurse at Marymount called 911 on May 23 and my Mom was taken to the ER at 12:10 p.m. No one from Marymount called me to notify me. The ER Dr called me at 2:45 p.m. and that's how I found out. Her condition was critical, and she was alone for 2-1/2 hours with no family by her side! There is no excuse for that negligence. I always have my cell phone on and with me. My Mom ended up passing away 13 hours after being taken to the ER. Third, I was promised a refund check for monies not used, I went to Marymount twice but no check, and 9 days later I still do not have the refund check. read more

as a caregiver and grandchild of someone with dementia i do not recommend this facility for your loved one! they rarely provide care for the residents and provide no type of compassion for families or their loved ones. not only did my grandfathers money/credit cards go missing, but he was locked outside with emt after being released from the hospital for hours to the point where police had to be called by emt's to conduct a wellness check where police and my family found workers sleeping on every floor of the building. not providing care or watching over the residents. im honestly not even sure how this place is still open because the staff is so terrible. read more

This place is all right for a nice cheap retirement center for the retired independent/dependent senior citizens. If you could find another place that can beat this in price go ahead, and go for the other, but if you feel like you can live with a nice place like this for a little more go ahead. The best parts about this place is that -You have some staff that really care for these residents as if they were your own personal family. -It is located in a convenient location which is close to a Catholic Church/school, the main Library, San Leandro Bart Station, out let stores, and restaurants if you would like to take your grandma/grandpa/dad/mom out on a nice date to take them away from the "restaurant style" meals at Marymount Villa. -People act like a family, or will great you with a smile(even though others may not). -Residents don't have problems with each other. -It is a nice, and affordable retirement center. -They have Volunteers from high schools that come to do activities with the residents which makes it nice and lively. Parts that can need some improvement -Please don't call, or say you serve restaurant style even though you do, but you have one main course for everyone, but only one alternative that must be given before hand the meal is served. (As well make portions a little more bigger) -Get some staff that will work instead of sit down, and let the busy working bee's do their job. -Try to keep arguments, or personal problems of work in a nice quite area, or take it outside were no one can here you talk about the problem you are trying to resolve. My Uncle has dementia and was under my care but back in February I gave birth to my first child and it became really difficult for me to take care of both my child and my uncle . I looked around for a home for about a month or so and came across Marymount Villa . Immediately I was impressed, the facility itself is very well kept and the staff are so kind! The administrator made sure I knew that my Uncle was gonna be in great hands . Hes been there for about 4 months now and hes doing great ! I visit about twice a week and his room is always tidy how he likes it and hes always well groomed . The staff's professionalism and support of my family helped us get through a very troubling time. There are no words that can adequately express our heartfelt gratitude for what Marymount Villa has done for us. MaryMount Villa's facilities are well cared for and it is a pleasant site for both the residents and their visitors. There are a variety of activities and the staff makes every effort to engage the memory care patients with compassion. The food is good, served at regular and efficient intervals. Additionally, our participation, as a family, was welcomed and encouraged. As we know my Dad well, my input was considered by staff members in order to give him the best care possible. The location of the site is safe and in a lovely part of San Leandro. The administrative staff at, MaryMount Villa, are always friendly and professional. They helped us, in a seamless way, set up coordination with our health care insurance. The Wellness Center at MaryMount Villa developed a working relationship with my husband's doctors so that his medical needs were supportive of his physical well being. Our Dad needed 24/7 care on their 3rd flr for dementia residents. Our experience @ Marymount has been wonderful. The major plus was that you don't hv to move your loved one to another facility, or ano. rm for end of life care. They work w/ Vitas Hospice (also great) so Dad was able to hv the best of care in a lovely private apt. Marymount's staff always found someone to step in & back up Hospice when they were short handed. The management is more than helpful & the staff well trained & cheerful. Dad was there until 2 wks B4 his 96th birthday when he passed away peacefully. We will have our Mother, almost 94, go there as well when the time comes. We feel we have acquired extened family support thru this fine facility. Marymount has changed since the posting 11/08. They not only hv dementia care - they are in the process of being certified for Alzheimer patients as well. We found the cost to be acceptable for the level of care. My Father's stay at Marymount began in June, 2016 after a stroke in January and a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease and mild dementia . The first six month were ok...just little things, like when I would arrive to see him he would be lying on the floor unable to get up and there would be no caregivers on the floor available to help pick him up. Certain little marks and bruises would appear with no explanation. In about January a new director came named Tony....He was a big TALKER, he made it seem like things were going to get better because of his stellar management skills...he was in and out in a matter of months. In about Spring 2017 another director came. Everything changed. April 5, 2017 my husband and I went to visit my Dad, who stated that he had a "rough night" he said his arm was sore and that the caregiver "Evangline" (the caregiver from hell) was mad because he wet the bed and that she had hit him. When I went downstairs the director assured me that Evangine would no longer work on my Father's floor, that lasted a couple weeks at most then the bruises started again. While I was downstairs speaking to the director the two day caregivers came to speak to my Father and as my husband explained began to interrogate my Dad and even told my Father..."oh, your just imagining that you were hit nobody hit you!!" The most terrible abuse happen when Evangline was angry again for my Father wetting the bed that she took her nasty fingernails and dug them into the side of my fathers let....a year later and he still has the scars. In May, the 20th to be exact the weather was 80 degrees that Saturday I arrived and could not find my Father anywhere, there we no caregivers on the floor. I searched downstairs in the common area...EVERYWHERE, I could not find him, when I went back upstairs this old caregiver who spends most of her time sitting and told me she put my Dad out on the terrace..in the sun...with no hat..or sunscreen, he was bright red, sunburned, and dripping with sweat, when I lost it, Dojet's response was that "old people like the sun you know." In November, 23017, the worst accident occurred when Nick the bus driver quit, Jasmine's answer was to have the guy Metty, who was an administrator drive my Father and Mother to Kaiser for a blood test. Metty stated to my Mother that it was his first time driving the bus; obviously, because he did not lock the wheelchair or the shoulder straps. When Metty drove around the round-about at Kaiser San Leandro my Father tipped over and flew out of the wheelchair, banged his head and tore up his elbow and knee. ( I have pictures of these injuries as well). When I asked to see the incident report Jasmine gave me a piece of paper that was a note to the doctor that stated my Dad fell because he was wiggling around on his wheel chair and had a "small laceration" on his elbow...lies, and more lies...My Mother was on the bus and has a completely different story. The next day when I went in to see my Dad the caregivers were trying to hide what happened. I had placed a camera in the room however, the caregiver Bessy figured it out and would come in and turn it toward the wall so I removed the camera. I would see a caregiver named Adwa hit my Father like she was playing, slapping his face and punching his upper arm, my Dad would say "they act like they are playing, but when you are not here they hurt me" Numerous times, to many to count; I would arrive and find my Father on the floor and no caregivers were around. I found scissors in his room which is against state rules, also, they would double up on diapers (put two on at a time) which is also against state rules and may have contributed to the bed sores. In August 2017 I reported bed sores to the caregiver, by October they were purple and ten times worse (I have pictures) when I spoke to the Jasmine she told me Rachel does monthly skin checks and that I should speak with her; Rachel stated to me that she had never once done a skin check on my Father for the year and a half he was at the facility. In February I arrived and could not wake up my Father, I had the med tech take his vitals and his heart rate was 43..she, Rachel would not call 911, only the non-emergency number which was a two and a half hour wait, I called 911 myself and they came, they were crushing meds that were time release. However, there was an order from the Doctor to do so. When I questioned the Doctor he apologized and they stopped crushing his meds, since my Father has not had any more "unresponsive" episodes. However, when I questioned Rachel she said she knew not to crush some of the meds he was taking On February 16, the "last straw" happened. I left my Father at 12 pm in the common area watching TV. There is supposed to be two caregivers in the common area. At 4 pm when my mother arrived my Father had a bloody mark about the size of a half-dollar with ointment between his eyes and NOBODY knew what happened read more

My wife had 4 strokes and needed assistance moving from wheelchair to bed, to shower, etc. The staff on the 3rd floor and in the dining hall were all caring and highly professional. The shuttle services were limited but helpful for getting to Kaiser and the salon services very convenient. The levels of cleanliness and attentiveness were much higher than I experienced in similar facilities . There was professional entertainment and arts programs all week. My wife was happy as she could be with her limitations and we enjoyed daily meals together, with the friendly residents who lived there. The director had medical training and managed the staff in a way that seemed family oriented yet quite professional. I highly recommend both the assisted care and independent living programs. We enjoyed this facility from May of 2014 to June of 2016, when my wife passed from complications from a final stroke. read more

We moved my step-mother into the Villa when her health started to fail. She had cancer and needed the extra attention. She lived there for 1 1/2 yrs before she passed away this June. She was given such good care not only by the caregivers, but by the management and in particular, the Chief Administrator, Dolly. They were always so attentive and informed us when there was any change in her condition. They also knew the family by name and acknowledged us whenever they saw us. My mother loved all the staff and didn't have many complaints other then the food. She kept forgetting that all she needed to do was ask to have something else other then what they were serving and they would try to get it for her. One of the great things about Marymount was that they allowed hospice to come in to attend to her the last 3 months of her life. She lived in the independent section until she needed more care then moved to another floor where she still had her own room, but 24 hr. care on that floor. I can't think of a better place that she could have lived during her last year. I would definitely recommend it to families looking for a senior care facility for their loved one. they also have a very good dementia unit. read more

A terrible place that is far from professional. I showed up many times to see the staff not doing their jobs or answering the patients call buttons...The best thing they had was the cooking and a few service workers, but I'd never recommend them and suggest you check on your loved one often and without notice. Unfortunately, they seem to care more about money vs the care of our elderly. Their memory care floor was terrible. what can i say about marymount villa good and bad; my mother stays here so far so good. the reason it has these type of rating you will see. below GOOD- -good Certain staff members are so great to my mom. By the caregivers actions showed me that do there best everyday with my mom simple fact she is tough one to work with . I almost took her out the facility but i m greatful for the staff that attend my mom needs whenever she calls - great location.they have a catholic church across the way and short distance to downtown to get to safeway and etc. - maintance guy who does appointments works too hard and is team player. - food is good but not great. - activites with lady down in the dinning she is very caring and she interacts with all the residents. -commication with superviors and caregivers is ok but it depends who you talk to. BAD- first off update your website and actually put your residents on it . and update the photos cause nothing like that in real life when you walk into the building -hire people that actually wanna work instead of lazy ones telling the hard working ones to do there work. -The adminstation staff.only a few -BOSS needs to interact with residents and staff instead of sitting in a chair all day. get to know the staff instead of reading stuff on paper. -when i make the monthly payments for my mom the person who charges us mean looking indian lady dosent know what she doing besides online shopping from what i saw when i came in to help make a payment. learn how to smile lady instead of looking pissed all day. -the older lady who helps with the front desk she needs to help the other receptionist out instead of talking mess in her native language or hididng to not help do any work. the so called supervior leads AM LEAD- these past few months she needs to be more attentive on the job instead of saying "yea yea all the time" she comes off really fake and not a hard worker more like a lazy worker. I seen in action that all she do is talk but not actually do any work. whoever works with her end up doing all the work by themselves. PM LEAD- she is ok. but she always on the go. she just talks really loud but i get it thats how she talks normally. surpisely i dont have nothing bad to say. whoever is the overnight lead- i havent even met this person but all i see when i come in to give my mom things is that they take my moms suppiles from the overnight shift. i pay all this money for my mom. overnight crew takes all the supplies leaving the AM crew with nothing. At times i came in the AM and seen the caregivers having to change my moms who entire bed and take her shower because of the overnight crew not probably cleaning her. Certain caregivers they get paid $11.50 an hour some have a families that they are taking care of and others are just trying to make it as best as they can. the caregivers are so underpaid to do so much for my mom and many other residents they should get paid more than what they get. read more
