Mary Maxim has been a source for knitting supplies for as long as I can remember. The business started in 1954, and today there is a large mail order business, as well as the retail store in Paris, Ontario. My wife loves to knit, and we often come here for her yarn, as well as patterns. The staff here is knowledgeable and they have always been there to answer our questions. There are also supplies for other crafts such as beading and sewing. There is a bargain area at the back of the store where we go every visit to take a look for deals. I've ordered puzzles online from Mary Maxims and happened to be in Paris, On! So off I went to see it in person. They have many things for crafting. How fun! I found the staff to be older and not friendly at all. Miserable dispositions, except the lady at the cash seemed to be the only friendly one. I wondered around and I found the jigsaw puzzle section! Seems they are almost exclusive to Sunsout. Ok prices. Nothing special. However, it was odd to find KI Puzzles among all the Sunsout, but here's the thing that turned me off.. they sell KI Puzzles for $14.99? The exact same series that are across the street at Dollarama for $4.00! What? Normally KI'S regular pricing is under $10.00, but then they came out with a line for Dollarama for $4.00. Awesome! However, when I saw Mary Maxims selling a $4.00 puzzle for $14.99, I was done in that isle. They have a cool candy section too. Also overpriced. Off I went across the street to Dollarama. Bought 3 puzzles for $4.00 each! Would have been $45.00 plus tax at Mary Maxims. Disappointed in Mary's. They need to reevaluate puzzle prices and hire friendly staff. read more

This is a review I wrote about Mary Maxim Canada: I placed an order in late June. After approximately a week I sent an email, inquiring about the status of my order. I did not receive any response. I didn't know if it was simply because of high volume or if there was something wrong.I ended up sending 3 inquiries, all with no response. I finally received my package and sent an email expressing my disappointment in not having any communication from customer service whatsoever. I got no response. Even after I said that I would not order from them again, customer service Did Not Respond! All I was looking for was an answer to my question...an answer which I Never Got. I have been in customer service for many years and have always made my clients/customers feel as if they were first and foremost on my agenda. In this instance I was made to feel like I did not matter. I have been a Very Good customer with this company; sometimes ordering 2 or 3 times in a month! Of course, waiting for a good deal or free shipping. (Their shipping costs are quite high). Obviously that doesn't matter. Very unfortunate. This is the 3rd time I have written this review. The first two were removed from their website; the 3rd was removed from their Facebook page. I have every right to express my disappointment and my opinion. I totally understand that there are delays and things are not "normal" right now but I don't think I'm wrong in expecting an answer to a simple question. read more

Last fall I purchased 8 large skeins of mary maxim value yarn-loved the colour--It wasn't as thick as I wanted so I doubled the yarn--needed more--I went back to the same store on wellington in london--the ecru was on back order-I tried several more times and it wasn't coming in--I didn't have a credit card to order online--but when I called the number that was all they could offer me. Finally got a credit card-made the order--paid extra for the delivery-worth it? No--now ecru is closer to beige-never mind different dye lots -that would be fine but this was totally different colour. So I paid double the shipping rate to send it back. Lesson learned. Also--many knotted joins in the value yarn--like I've never seen-wouldn't recommend it read more

Saturday, January 7, 2017 My mom and I have been to Mary Maxim's many times. This last time was more wonderful than before. The two ladies in the yarn section were so friendly and helpful, they answered all my many questions as I'm starting to try out knitting. I did bring my two boys with me (4yrs old and 11 weeks old) they were so nice to my busy 4 year old, gracious and kind. They let him explore, but helped keep a watchful eye so he didn't get into "too much." For that I am so thankful, it's not easy to try and learn something while chasing a young busy child. For which you are usually judged for, but not here, not today. Then when it was about time to go my youngest needed to eat, or he wouldn't make it back the 30-40 min trip home. The cashier quickly, and with out hesitation, offered me "the office" to breastfeed my son in. I felt welcomed and comfortable without being rushed. I can't say enough good things about my current experience. Just, thank you so much ladies of Mary Maxim. We will return with many thanks and great-fullness, I truly appreciate the love shown to us. read more

Wow, a bunch of grumpy old women work here! One got upset with two 18 year olds for laughing (and they bought a wrap) and when I commented at the front counter what a nice store, (because the merchandise is eclectic) and that I had always wanted to stop in as I was from Kitchener and all she said, again another with a miserable voice, I guess you don't use the rewards card then? Miserable faces and they all looked annoyed to have customers. They got 2 stars for the wool collection but I will buy my things elsewhere. read more
