I searched for catering services with great reviews and found Chef Mary Bass. Her communication via email was timely in the beginning when requesting her services and discussing menu options. She was very helpful and timely with the delivery and that was it. There was no customer review follow up so I sent her an email regarding the food that was a disaster and crickets....no response at all since April 3, 2024. Not even a courtesy to reply or tell me how she will make it right! I would not recommend her at all! The email is listed below...

Delicious Charcuterie Board

Loved everything about this! The food was awesome, the chefs were so friendly (Yay for Corey and Lauren), and the idea of having a restaurant quality meal in your house was key! After a long day on the beach it was nice not having to cook. Strange times with COVID, so this made all the ladies in our 8 person dinner party comfortable. Will use this wonderful service/ experience again, as well as recommended it to everyone!!

Fiesta hosts.

We created an interactive Fiesta dinner party for our guests with Chef Mary Bass of La Cocina in Galveston. She came to our home in Friendswood with her able assistant Lewis and presented a dinner party experience that we will always remember. Fabulous food and service. Chef Mary is unique because she loves to cook and interact with guests at the same time. We learned about moles and loved her famous one with 27 ingredients and an incredible depth of flavor. She taught us how to do quick pickling of onions and our guests got to help and watch her make homemade corn totrtillas. Many caterers prepare and serve good food but none can match the interactive experience she created for 16 of us as we surrounded her. Lewis is her kind and able assistant and friend who keeps everything rolling and cleaned up as they go. Amazing!

Call Mary on a Monday and she was at our table on a Thursday. We stayed at a hotel in Galveston prior to boarding our cruise. She showed up on time with everything in tow. Her demeanor was cool, calm and collected. She engaged in conversation and made the evening one to remember. We had a charcuterie board for an appetizer. Followed by a 3 course meal. Orange goat cheese salad, blackened chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. Lastly strawberry shortcake. She will travel to you and I will not disappoint!!!!!

I have had the pleasure of having Chef Mary as an instructor for a cooking class at The Kitchen Chick in Galveston.

I ordered the $20 bottomless mimosas, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Fried Chicken, and because I'm indecisive and they were offered a la cart, I ordered a side of Catfish and a side of greens. My friend decided on the chicken and waffles. The food came out in an acceptable amount of time and piping hot. We did have to ask for our beverages and they were quickly brought out. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, bursting with flavor from the multiple ingredients. I asked for butter but ultimately didn't need it because they were delicious with just a hint of syrup because they were already sweet. They came with 4 chicken wings (flats) which I appreciated because I don't like when the chicken is strips. The chicken wings were seasoned and fried to perfection, as were the catfish strips. Just the right amount of batter and seasoning to be crunchy but still flaky and melt in your mouth delicious. The greens were to die for!!! Cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. I added a few dashes of hot sauce and they hit the spot. It reminded me of my childhood and I longed for some good cornbread to sop up the remaining pot liquor . But I digress lol. The restaurant was located in a convenient and easy to find location with plenty of parking. Clean tables and facility. I observed the staff washing their hands multiple times throughout the visit. Overall, everything was excellent and I'll definitely be returning to try other menu offerings. A few things to note: Definitely make a reservation. They do not split checks. It's one check for the entire table so figure it out and make it easy for them. Debit and credit cards only. They also offer Chef Curated Catering experiences and party and event rentals.

I came for Sunday brunch, I came back again to try their oysters and then came a third time with my cousin for their fried pork chops. Baybehh when I tell you everything that I've put in my mouth at this establishment has been phenomenal! For Sunday brunch, we ordered the catfish and grits, oxtails, Now while the food is amazing, I have to be honest the service is not up to par. I've been here three times in the span of a month and the service is extremely slow. They appear to be short staffed most of the times which can be frustrating for customers. I have personally talked to the owner about it and I know it's something that they are actively working on so I hope that things can turn around soon in that department becasue the food literally is that good!

Their private cooking lesson was wonderful!…read more ...I confess: I am a bit OCD and as the daugher of a master chef, am not a big fan of "cooking lessons"...particularly in someone's home. But, recently I was in Galveston for a meeting and was told a Cooking Lesson would be our entertainment...determined to be a team player, I prepared for...at best...a mediocre evening. Armed with a bit of Hager 1 Vodka (to calm my nerves), I trooped out to Tiki Island resigned to simply get through it...however, I was TOTALLY surprised! The chef's home is chic, yet adorably comfortable...and would meet anyone's exacting standards for cleanliness. Linda (our host) has wonderful decorating taste, and her home if filled with all of these exceptional items from her world travels - No! We are not friends! She and Laura (the Chef) are just that warm and friendly...that by the time we left, it was as if we'd spent the evening with a BFF. We had a marvelous time! ...and I did not need the vodka to do so... Linda, Alicia (Kitchen Chick) and Laura (Authentic Italian Chef) were a bundle of energetic laughter ...we made Gnoochi from scratch, Meatballs in Red Sauce...and the most divine Spinach Salad ...well, I say, "we made" but in honesty, we mostly nibbled and sipped wine! The food was divine! ...the Gnoochi was perfectly light and airy, and my friend ate the red sauce as if it were ice cream! Speaking of sweets, the Panna Cotta was TO DIE FOR! We left with full tummies, a souvenir recipe book...and after a trivia contest, re: Italian food...my team had their first place Wooden Spoon trophies! DEFINITELY something I would love love to do again!

I didn't want to just take them out to dinner -- I wanted them to feel celebrated, appreciated, and completely pampered at home. Chef Kane with Taste of the Sophisticated (TOTS) brought that vision to life with elegance and soul. From the moment she arrived, Chef Kane was completely locked in. You could see the passion in her eyes and the confidence in every step she took in our kitchen. She worked with a quiet intensity and grace, and watching her create was like watching an artist in her element. Every dish that came out was more than food -- it was a moment. The evening started with Truffle Macaroni Bites, perfectly crisp and paired with roasted tomato-garlic coulis and truffle aioli -- a rich and flavorful opener. The French Onion Soup, topped with golden gruyère and comté over toasted brioche croutons, was the best I've ever had -- bold, warming, and luxurious. Then came the Chicken Velouté, a velvety, refined dish with crème fraîche, fresh tarragon, and smoked sea salt. The Truffle Caesar Salad was a sophisticated take on a classic -- pancetta and parmesan crisps added the perfect punch. The main courses were stunning: Baked Salmon with citrus beurre blanc, roasted heirloom carrots, and fingerling potatoes -- light, bright, and beautifully balanced. Spinach-Stuffed Chicken in white wine garlic sauce with truffle mashed potatoes and wild mushrooms -- rich, earthy, and comforting. And the crown jewel: an 8 oz Filet Mignon, flawlessly cooked, served with creamy truffle butter, roasted Brussels sprouts, and silky mashed potatoes. Dessert was a celebration in itself: A Molten Lava Cake made with Valrhona dark chocolate and topped with 24K gold leaf -- decadent and unforgettable. And a delicate Madagascar Vanilla Bean Cupcake with strawberry coulis -- light, fragrant, and a perfect final note. What struck me most was not just the exceptional food -- it was how Chef Kane made every woman at that table feel seen and celebrated. Her presence, care, and artistry elevated the night far beyond any restaurant or typical catering experience. If you're looking to turn a meaningful occasion into a luxurious and heartfelt experience, Chef Kane and TOTS are who you need. I can't thank her enough for making this Mother's Day unforgettable.

The plan was for him to arrive at 12:30 PM and start cooking at 1:00 PM for 14 guests at $60 per person. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. He arrived at 2:30 PM, a full two hours late. Once he arrived, he was clearly unprepared--he did not bring serving plates, butter, or rice, and actually left our home to go to the grocery store while our guests waited. The food quality was very poor. There was no rice, the noodles were hard and undercooked, and the only item that was reasonably edible was the broccoli. There was also no hibachi-style performance or entertainment, which is the main reason people hire hibachi chefs and pay premium pricing. He gave us some discount at the end and offered free dinner in the future (which I would never feel comfortable booking again), but the damage was already done. This was a milestone family celebration, and the delays, lack of professionalism, and poor food quality completely ruined the experience. I would not recommend this service for any important event where timeliness, preparation, and quality matter.
