But, recently I was in Galveston for a meeting and was told a Cooking Lesson would be our entertainment...determined to be a team player, I prepared for...at best...a mediocre evening. Armed with a bit of Hager 1 Vodka (to calm my nerves), I trooped out to Tiki Island resigned to simply get through it...however, I was TOTALLY surprised! The chef's home is chic, yet adorably comfortable...and would meet anyone's exacting standards for cleanliness. Linda (our host) has wonderful decorating taste, and her home if filled with all of these exceptional items from her world travels - No! We are not friends! She and Laura (the Chef) are just that warm and friendly...that by the time we left, it was as if we'd spent the evening with a BFF. We had a marvelous time! ...and I did not need the vodka to do so... Linda, Alicia (Kitchen Chick) and Laura (Authentic Italian Chef) were a bundle of energetic laughter ...we made Gnoochi from scratch, Meatballs in Red Sauce...and the most divine Spinach Salad ...well, I say, "we made" but in honesty, we mostly nibbled and sipped wine! The food was divine! ...the Gnoochi was perfectly light and airy, and my friend ate the red sauce as if it were ice cream! Speaking of sweets, the Panna Cotta was TO DIE FOR! They took my decorations for the buffet table with them, they took a bag filled with other items with them. I called to try and figure out what was going on and she would not pick up the phone. I am highly disappointed and expected better, Brandy Hines is the owner of this business, she lacks integrity and she is a highly dishonest person. It was our venue dream come true. The lady who runs the place Christina, started off super sweet and helpful. She asked me on our first visit if I have a day of coordinator. I told her I didn't and she offered to take on the task, she said it's no problem I'd love to help. Great! Wonderful! Our wedding was 10/13. We started setting up at 1:30? All was good she told us she was tired from event they had on 10/12. Our wedding was scheduled from 6-11:00 and then we had until 1130 to clean up. My sister-in-law asked her why the AC wasn't blowing. She replies it's an old building. Then she claims that my sister-in-law qas giving her dirty looks. Christina disappeared. Told my sister-in-law "looks like you've got this" Christina has all the information. Walk order day of schedule. Everything and she vanished To the point where I was texting her to make sure she was okay. She should have been checking on me! My sister-in-law and husband pulled it all together. At the reception. One of the kids spilt a glass of water. Couldn't find Christina or any of the venue staff to clean it up. I had to send my photographer to look for her and ask how do we clean it up so none of my guests slip and fall. After the fake sparkler exit. A couple of our groomsmen were horsing around and stupidly trying touch each other with the hot lighters ‍ Christian BLEW UP and shit down my wedding an hour and a half early. She didn't give myself or my husband the chance to correct the situation. She sent the security office (her husband) to tell our DJ to shut it down. My husband's cousin tried to talk them out of shutting it down. Then the officer went to my husband and started talking crazy about making us leave and being arrested. My husband was pissed. We paid good money for our time there. No one was damaging anything or being disrespectful, until they were shutting us down. As they were literally tossing us out with all my stuff inside, Christina called Galveston County PD and was cussing out my elderly guest telling them to "get the F*** out". Unacceptable She had the county police arrest the groomsman that tried to talk them out of shutting it down buy the DJ. Then she has them arrest my husband on my wedding night. Our DJ is an officer for another precinct and even he said it was ridiculous.
