Marx Towing has been one of the worst companies I've worked with in recent memory. I was in a very stressful situation, and I needed a non-operational, full-size pickup towed from a semi-tight spot. I called Marx as they are our local AAA affiliate, and they sent someone out promptly. The driver was incredibly rude from the start. He pulled up and immediately said that he wouldn't be able to tow the vehicle. He tried to jump the pickup for about five minutes to see if he could get it moved. When he was unsuccessful, I asked him for advice regarding what I should do to get the pickup moved. I inquired if there was a different (smaller) tow truck he could use or if there was another company he'd recommend who may be able to tow the vehicle successfully. He shrugged and told me--point blank--that it was my problem, and I had to figure it out. He then left. I called Bracco's Towing since I still needed to move the pickup. They sent someone out quickly, and they were able to move the truck successfully within ~10-15 minutes. I reported the issue with Marx to AAA, and they have now issued me a full refund for the tow that I had to pay for through Bracco's. I was frankly appalled by the laziness and the blatant "I don't care" attitude from the Marx tow truck driver. I will not attempt to use their services again. read more

The dispatcher, Anna, made our lives a living hell. Our family was rear ended at 60mph in Gilroy on 152. Our car was totaled but we were instructed to use our AAA membership by CHP. Anna, had it out for our driver. He was great and kind. Anna obviously hated the driver, cancelled our premium AAA benefits once our totaled car was on the truck, and then threatened us (the accident victims with taking her tow truck driver's pay check if we didn't give her $300 in cash immediately. Not sure how Anna, the extortionist, even has a job. Before it was determined our car was totaled, she made sure to roll all the windows down on our car, and let it sit in Marx's towing's yard for the whole week, destroying the interior of the car. There was water (from rain or sprinklers) all over the interior of the car, animal footprints, dead insects etc...will be filing with BBB and any other legal avenue to hold Anna accountable for torturing a family of accident victims several hours from home and extorting money and threatening us. And at Christmas. Anna has a serious hatred problem, destroys people's vehicles while she has possession of them through Marx towing, and extorts money from accident victims with full insurance coverage and premiere AAA membership that includes 100 miles of towing. I can't express how sick Anna is. She is hateful and needs help. I hope she gets it. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. The receptionist here has one of the rudest attitudes I've ever dealt with--no greeting, no courtesy, just straight-up nasty vibes. I called at 7:25 (yes, before they officially open, my mistake for not checking) and instead of simply not answering, she picked up with "How can I help you," only to tell me they weren't open and to call back at 8. If you're going to answer the phone, then actually help people--don't snap at them. Or have a separate line for office and towing. A professional business should have staff ready before opening, not scrambling at the exact opening time. Came into Marx to retrieve my vehicle my brother got impounded and had the awful pleasure of being helped by Selena. My father came in and asked a simple question about why the amount was so high and the way she snapped at him to wait while she's doing something had me at a lost of words. The attitude and tone in her voice was disgusting. I told my father to just go outside because I saw how offended he had gotten and I told her there was no need to be rude like she just was. She then argued back saying she wasn't being rude and said she was going to get her manager. Jim who was very nice informed me she had a hard morning. That is no excuse to act or talk to other guests the way she did to me or my father. Selena, as soon as i walked in just by a glance I could already tell you must of had a hard life with bullying and being picked on and I'm sure that's the reason you act the way you act however you should really learn to look beyond your troubling past and change your attitude if you're going to be working within costumer service. They refused to tow my 2008 Dodge sprinter van 2500. Because it had cabinets, they considered it a commercial vehicle. We use this van to travel for motocross that's it. They were on site when the driver said no he isn't going to help us, and left my son on the side of the freeway for several hours into the night until I called auto care towing. They are above and beyond. Not sure why I waited to call them. But Marx was I bit unprofessional. read more

My car broke down at night in a parking lot and needed towing. I was told they'd arrive in 30 minutes. The tow truck driver arrived in 10 minutes but said he had to pick up another vehicle before me. That he had stopped by to see if all I needed was a jump. He said he'd be back in a 30 minutes. Instead of leaving he stayed in his tow truck taking on the phone. Once he left he never came back. I waited nearly 90 minutes, did not get a call back. I called the dispatcher again who was unaware I hadn't been picked up. She called the driver and then informed me he had to be rerouted and there would be no more drivers for the night so I'd have to wait til the morning to call them back and request service. Needless to say, I did not call back. I called one of their competitors, they were professional and picked me up as they said and on time. read more

My roadside assistance company passed on my request for a tow to Marx Towing. Got a call from the first driver and he told me that he was in a wrecker and that my car type might need a flatbed and asked me if that is what I wanted - sounded wise so I said yes. He told me to call his dispatcher to let them know. Dispatch said that none were available and I may wait for two hours. I said fine but asked them to call when close so I could walk back to my car. Two hours passed and I called back to check and clarify my location but was told it was past 5pm so I had to call my roadside assistance company again. Marx left me stranded, dispatch wasn't helpful, and they never called me back. Second request went to different company which had flatbed to me in 30 minutes. Not certain what went wrong here, but don't think I'll be seeking out Marx Towing in the future. read more

I hesitated to write this review but Marx towing has an integrity and dishonesty issue. About 2 years ago I bought a battery through mark towing via AAA roadside service. They swapped the battery out and I paid the driver cash for the swap. Now that 2 years passed the battery goes out again and it should be covered by warranty. Comes to light that the previous driver/tech never registered the battery swap. AAA and Marks were able to confirm that a battery call was placed on a specific date but a swap was not log in. According to the driver he said that the previous driver was let go from Marx because they had this issue with many customers. So out of desperation I ordered a new battery with the new driver for 217 installed. Here's the icing on the cake the battery goes out in 60 days. The same driver that installed it comes out test the battery and says it's all good no issues it's your car that is having electrical problems. It's not your battery and to take your car to a mechanic. I was shocked and disappointed with marks towing. I took my car to a shop and said it was no electrical issue just a bad battery. So if anyone wants a aaa battery do not get it from Marx Towing because they will scam you out of your money and not Honor there warranty. read more

I recently got into an accident. Hit a log. I am 18 years old and this is my first accident and first time needing a tow. Where we crashed I had no service. Eventually the fire department showed up and and started their process. CHP arrived and they were all great. They called a tow truck company, I did not choose Marx, this just so happens to be who they called. They tow my car and charge me a full day of lot fees for 30 mins. My car got into the lot at 11:30 pm. My car was leaking a little bit of windshield wiper fluid and I was charged $475 for 'hazardous waste cleanup'. This is so cruel and unfair. read more

CHP had crashed vehicle stored here. Due to severe injuries and distance of where I live I could not go in person to ask them to release vehicle to my insurance company. They required notarized statement to release to my vehicle to my insurance. How does a person who is severely injured go to a notary. This shop is a rip off, they add this restriction to make their money $90 a day. Plus the tow fee. Insurance company never heard of such a thing. I was stuck on the side of the freeway for 2 hours the driver drove past me at some point and called me to ask if that was me on the side of the road I said yes I just saw you drive by he said ok be there in 5 minutes .... 30 minutes later nothing I call dispatch and they also cannot find him .. he calls back says 5 more minutes .. 30 minutes later ( I wish I was exaggerating) he finally shows up and I admittedly wasn't very happy and said what took so long ?? Now it's 1145 at night and I finally got a tow truck from an hour away available to come get me and since it's corona season I had to find a Uber to drive me home that late at night since you can't ride with tow truck drivers now and knowing all of that the drivers of the tow truck STILL left me there . Let me first say I allowed myself time to calm down before I made this review and had I not they would get a one star . The two reasons for given them any credit /stars at all is because despite how irate I was while talking with the owner he graciously heard me out, de escalated the situation and with all do respect they only had two drivers .So my issues , I called using triple A , was told 45 min wait ( this was at about 89 a.m weekday ) . Was assigned a driver, after 45 mins no arrival , called triple A again they said oh sorry we've gotten in touch with driver ( not just dispatch but driver, it will be another 45 mins, waited 45 mins later I see on app new driver assigned, I wait , it says driver will arrive in 6 mins , then woohoo count down begins, then it says arriving soon , then it says arriving soon but app now says new driver assigned ... Bottom line I get stuff happens but the fact that Marx towing themselves not once called me about the constant delays, that I was the one who had to get in touch each time with triple A to have them call Marx was unacceptable. Had they at least communicated directly with me I would have been irritated but a bit more understanding. I carry triple A because they are usually great about getting a quick turn around , had I known it would have taken over 3 hours for a tow I could have just used my towing through my actual car insurance . And let me add this as much as I respect the boss man for calming me down a bit I did not care for him commenting on how well Ms I'm truly sorry this has happened but we only have two drivers because well you know nobody wants to work , it's hard to get employees when the government is paying them more to sit home .. For about 100k miles spanning across various cars, I have never had to call roadside assistance or towing. However, I was stuck in Gilroy last weekend as my car wouldn't start. Everything I saw online with respect to a self-diagnosis pointed to a flat battery. So I call AAA and a young guy shows up via Marx Towing within 20 mins (I had been trying to start using various means for 2 hours by this point in time). The guy promptly tried to jump start the battery, but the car won't start. My car is a Lotus Elise, so towing it would require some special equipment which I really didn't have. I tell the guy that it's alright and i'll leave the car overnight to take a stab at it the next day. I thank him for helping me anyway and he goes on his merry way. I try again for 30 mins to no avail. At this point, I was a lil bit scared as I was stranded about 40 miles from home with the battery being pretty low on my phone. This is where Marx Towing saves the day! They came back with a bigger towing truck. The wonder lady (Hazel) and her crew were pretty determined to get me out of the pickle I was in. She suggested we try to bump start the car after a few attempts to diagnose the issue. They started pushing the car (it's pretty light at just 1900 lbs) and I let go off the clutch and bam! The most shady and dishonest company that I've dealt with. My vehicle broke down near the national park and there was no cell signal in that area. So a passing-by forest ranger made the call for me and he asked me what insurance company I am with and I gave the name of my insurance company to him. Then a Marx towing truck showed up and the driver said NOTHING about how much he would charge ME until he was going to off load my vehicle. He initially (and arbitrarily) said it's 5 hours and $1500!!! After I confronted him and said it couldn't be 5 hours (later I checked the time lines, it was actually less than 1.5 hours for the total towing from loading to offloading). He backed down a little but still insisted on charging me $1200 otherwise he would not offload my vehicle. Due to concern that he was going to hold my vehicle as hostage, I signed on his receipt. Now my insurance would not reimburse me as I didn't call them to arrange the towing service. Guys, lesson learnt here. You need absolutely to ask the towing company the hourly charge BEFORE they tow your vehicle. However, If it is Marx Towing, just tell them to go home. read more

I was stuck on a an unknown (to me) stretch of the highway 152 with my 2 year old son coming from L.A. I was able to use them through AAA although I was out of service calls. My driver Dale was awesome....I give him a 5 stars. He was good with my son and allowed him to blow the horn before we left. He assisted with getting my things out the car and getting me settled in at the repair shop as I was unfamiliar with area. I woke up to a car that wouldn't start this morning. Ugh. Not a good way to start the day. It seemed to be the battery, so I called AAA. Silvester with Marx's Towing was at my house within 20 minutes. He diagnosed the problem which was indeed only a bad battery. He jumped the car and got it started. Then I was thinking I would have to get the car to the service station and wait for a new battery to be put in. Well, to my surprise he had new batteries on his truck. I was stoked.
